4-0 out of 5 stars Journey of a girl
I read this when I was young, and I remember feeling like I had found a friend. In this book, I found a character who struggled with the same issues with family members, self worth, impossible crushes, and God that I did.But instead of dwelling on the struggles, we see the difficult childhood of this girl pass.
2-0 out of 5 stars Well written, but not recommended for kids
This is a well written book, however, I feel I should point out several issues I have with this book, which seems to follow the formula of the "modern teen problem novel".This novel "explores difficult emotions" such as selfishness, jealousy, and alienation from God. All characters who are devoutly religious are portrayed as either uneducated or mean, and any "enlightened" characters or heroes are portrayed as not being religious.( Does anyone really know any Christians who go around , Bible-in-hand, accusing other women of "whoredom"?) And what modern teen "problem novel" would be complete without some sexual themes, and at least a brief discussion of menstruation ?At the book's end, our main character chooses to continue in her career after the birth of first child. Parents should also be advised that Sara Louise's "coming of age" includes rejecting religion.( Although, to be fair, the book does not portray Sara as a happy person, but I think this subtlety will be lost on children.)Judging by other reviews, most child readers did not pick up on the fact that Caroline was a much kinder and more likable person than Sara Louise. An adult reader who is wise to the anti-religious bias may enjoy the book ( if they're not grossed out by the idea of a 14 year old having a crush on a 70 year old man). If you are looking for a book about a normal child, with normal child feelings, dealing with her "perfect" sister, read Little House on the Prairie and leave this book on the shelf. Appropriate reading for adults, who can understand the bias against religion, but not at all recommended for children.
4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review on Jacob Have I Loved
Just recently, I have read the Newberry Medal-winning novel Jacob Have I Loved written by Katherine Paterson. This book describes the life of young, Sara Louise Bradshaw, the twin of the popular and more appreciated, Caroline Bradshaw, growing up on the small island of Rass. All her life, Louise felt as if Caroline has deprived her of everything: their family's love, her friends, and her dreams for a successful future. Then, when Captain Wallace - who had mysteriously returned after fifty years of disappearance - finds a way to obtain a scholarship for Caroline in Baltimore, Louise is left to tassel with her sharp-mouthed grandmother and take on the traditional job of a male as a waterman. Unfortunately, this did not satisfy the woman she was becoming. Louise must learn to fight past her jealousy of her sister's shadow and figure and find her way to place Caroling cannot reach. I learned of this book from a friend and found it interesting from their description. After reading, however, I realized it is very emotional and gets very deep into the feelings of jealousy and hatred. In addition, it also has a large use of vocabulary. So I would recommend it to anyone who is thirteen or older preferably to the female gender but some men may also find this story appealing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Teens!!
I thought this book was one of the best books I've ever read. It was very realistic and it's something people want to read about. It had a very nice plot line and was a book some people could relate to! I would recommend this book to all my friends. I loved the way this book was written, it was so creative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
The first one was awesome and so was the second one! It was a page turner, I read it in a few hours and was in awe about how well the story went from one situation to the other. Another great read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I read TTYL and absolutly loved it! Then I saw this one come out and had to have it! If anyone is border line to buy it, do it! It's just as good as the first book with just as many adventures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dreamland
Dreamland by Sarah Dessen is a book about a seventeen-year-old girl by the name of Caitlin who is going trough some hard times. Every year since this year she has been the one who always looks up to her sister and is expected to be more like her sister. Then one day her older sister decides to leave early one morning and go live with her boyfriend in New York. She is then faced with new conflicts such as boys, drinking, and smoking.
4-0 out of 5 stars Vivid portrayal of dating violence
Dessen's "Dreamland" is probably one of the most accurate portrayals of dating violence that I've read in fiction.People often wonder why victims don't leave their abusers, and how they could continue to love the person who hurts them.Dessen vividly portrays how Caitlin understands that what Rodgerson is doing is wrong, but she is afraid to leave. Her self-esteem is so fragile that she assumes everyone will blame her for getting into such a dangerous situation.
5-0 out of 5 stars WOW wonderful!
This is the most fantastic book i have ever read. I couldn't stop reading it and finished it within 2 days. I couldn't have said it better myself. It was as if the author was writing a story about when i was younger. She captured everything perfectly. I would recommend this story to anyone. And if all of Sarah Dessen books are this good i am going to be busy over the next few days lol. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great new chic lit
In Cecily von Ziegesar's new series, Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey leaves Manhattan to attend boarding school at the elite Waverly Academy in upstate New York.Jenny is determined to start completely over from who she was at Constance Billard, and create a new, cool, chic persona.Jenny knows she's up for a challenge when her new roomates are the best friends of the former Waverly Academy It Girl, but she's up for it.Nothing can deter her from her path to being elevated to It Girl status. Not her roomates, not the Disciplinary Committe, nothing. This book gives insight into a new side of Jenny Gossip Girl readers had not been previously privy to, and serves up a whole new set of scandals, intrigue, and gossip.Fans of Gossip Girl will love this new read, but it is not neccessary to have read it to enjoy The It Girl.

5-0 out of 5 stars 'The It Girl' is, without a doubt, the must-have accessory of the season
Sophomore Jenny Humphrey is finally vacating the city, as well as the illustrious Constance Billard, and heading to the countryside to attend the prestigious Waverly Academy. While it may just be a stone's throw away from the bright lights of Times Square, Jenny knows that it's a place where she can finally reinvent herself, and create a name she feels is worthy. A place where she can become...an It Girl. As soon as she arrives on campus, everything feels different, from the horsey smells, to the lone owls flying around, Jenny feels as if she has arrived, and intends on embracing the goddess she truly is. Now all she needs is a proper boy toy to worship her. But when Jenny encounters her two uber-rich, self-absorbed roommates - Callie Vernon and Brett Messerschmidt - Jenny begins having second thoughts. After all, those two are only ready to lend a helping hand if something's in it for them. And increasing Jenny's popularity doesn't likely hold a very high place on their to-do list. Surrounded by gorgeous girls, and even more gorgeous guys, Jenny knows that she's in the right place, now she just has to find the ability to stay there. And, if taking the fall for someone else, getting caught with "off-limit" boys in "off-limit" areas, and going up against the Disciplinary Committee all in the first week of classes is what it takes, then Jenny's all for it. After all, there's nothing that she wouldn't do to become...an It Girl.

5-0 out of 5 stars Important addition to the literature on street organizations
Few books are currently available on street organizations (commonly referred to by sociologists, anthropologists and criminologists as "gangs") that present both an insider perspective and outsider analysis, and place these social formations into the context of both the contemporary and historical variables that cause their formation, and direct their transformation into radical political organizations.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Son of the REAL Godfather....
Vince Luca is your normal, average, seventeen year-old guy... except for the fact that his father is the most powerful Mob boss in New York City.Although Vince wants absolutely nothing to do with the family business, he just can't avoid it.Like the time when he found a guy in his trunk, or the time he found his locker stuffed with stolen Palm Pilots, his father's job is unavoidable. But now, fate throws Vince another curveball that lands him dating the daughter of an FBI agent, the same agent who's trying to put his father behind bars.
3-0 out of 5 stars Mob?
When this said mob, I chose it to read thinking there would be action and killings. I after all did enjoy all his other books. After reading it, I thought it was just O.K. I did find it was geared towards girls because of all the romance. I would probably only recommend this for a quick read or a book report. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This is one of the best books I have ever read in my life.It is very funny and the author can write like she is a normal teenager very well.I recommend this book to any girl over 12 years old! There is some cussing and there is some mmature parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book.
I think this book was well written. Even thought some parts of the book seamed shallow, it was a great book. Ashley is not the Prom going type of girl. However, her best friend Natalia is. When their math teacher steals all the prom money, Ashley pulls through for Natalia. In the end, they have a great prom. (At least for a gym prom...)

4-0 out of 5 stars look a little deeper
The things Ashley does may seem immoral at first, but that's the whole point of the story. She starts off as somebody who doesn't really care, somebody who can't quite stand up for the things she wants. But there is really a change in her character by the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love those moments
Wow.That's all I could say for a long time after I finished reading this book. What an amazing story. It may start outlight-hearted, but it's a very serious story.I loved it.The characters are incredible, the plot twist comes out of nowhere (yet there are great clues planted in the beginning), and the ending is surprising and realistic.I'm rushing off to read Godless now, and I may need to add Pete Hautman to my list of favorite authors.

2-0 out of 5 stars life
I like my book because it's confusing; it messes with your mind.It messed with my mind because I didn't think his friend Andy died in the Tuttle place. I thought he was alive the whole time cause of how he talked to him and he wasn't really there. Is he like schizophrenic or something? I think that that was pretty mean to put him in an all boys school I didn't thing that it was where he belonged. But he's crazy and sick in the mind because he used to look into Melissa room at night. This book really didn't make much sense. All it was pretty much was a guy writing down really long lie. I would recommend this book to people with time to waste.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the top teen reads of the year
This comes in as one of my favorite YA reads published in 2005.There is brilliance, elegance, and genius in simplicity, and Pete Hautman's Invisible exemplifies this maxim.Despite the fact that it is less than 150 pages long, with a large font and short chapters, Invisible covers years of events, actions, and emotions with remarkable clarity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really Touching
This book is a collection of short stories about Mexican-American teens in California, but the themes and the things they do could apply to anyone. Reading this book, you watch their transition into adulthood, the loss of innocence and the pain that comes with it. The stories are all very different. There is the story of a girl who tries to buy back all the clothes of her mother's her father gave away when her mother died. There is the story of a hardworking, honest boy, and his cousin, who flees when the going gets rough, but comes back for the glory. But all the stories weave a complicated picture that will leave you sighing wistfully at the end. ... Read more

When it's all over, Sam Flach is alive (but without anyhope of a future football career), Gary has killed himself, and Brendan is in acoma, after being beaten almost to death by other students who managed to disarmhim. At times it was difficult to tell if this book was fiction. The detail that was given was beyond belief and the characters seemed to each have their own voice. The style is almost that of a news report you would see on television, where there are numerous people being interviewed at different times and the camera cuts from person to person to get all of their statements. Each paragraph was a new person's view on the situation and the instances that occurred.Little pieces of letters were included to have the main characters be able to be part of the story but the story was told through the eyes of others.Onlookers that witnessed and partook in many of these activities expressed the situations that occurred the night of the dance and of the years leading up to it.Each character had their own tone and there was never an instance in which you thought the person speaking was the same as another. The idea of bullying and school shootings were the main ideas for this book. The pain that you felt from the letters that the boys had written could make you feel how much they had been hurt.Bullying is a large factor in schools that is slowly tearing away at other students and will continue to do so until actions are taken by the small minorities, such as in this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars This should be an adult book only!!!
My middle school student found this book in his library, wow.I am in the process of trying to get it pulled off ALL the shelves in the school district.Crimes are committed more often by copy cats and we certainly do not need another school shooting in the United States. It does not answer any students questions as to why school shootings happen I am not even sure adults can figure out all the reasons why.

4-0 out of 5 stars better then expected
Well, when first picked up I wasn't expecting much from the book. I had met the author earlier on, and decided to finally read one of her books and this was the most appealing.

Money hungry is the best book ever because of its suspense. When i first read the book I thought it was a little dumb. But then the book went into suspense. I went nuts and i couldn't just drop the book because it left you hanging. And you couldnt go back sleep because you were just dying to find out what was going to happen next. Its a great sensation and it really makes you get into the book. Editorial Review

Despite her natural talent for singing, 6-year-old Janie knows deep inher heart that if you really want to sing and feel the blues, you gotta beblack. Raised by addicts and drug dealers,Leshaya trusts no one and loves nothing except her music: "Didn't need nobodyelse. I could make love to my own self with that sound ridin' the beat."Finally, after surviving several foster homes, a harrowing heroin withdrawal, and an unwanted pregnancy, 16-year-old Leshaya finds a band and ends up with asingle on the radio. 4-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK IN MY ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book almost made me cry because janie is a great person but some of the things she does doesnt make any sense she has a baby, she gives baby away but she still loves the baby. But she did what she thought was right in her heart. When she wanted to sing she thoight about the people she was leaving behind. Even though she was very young she was determined to sing with Arethra Franklin. Just thinking about this book makes me feel like everyone makes a promise to themselves but they forget them.perserverence is the key in this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Book Ever
I honestly thought that Han Nolan could have done better. I mean yes, there was a moral to it, but it wasn't that great. I read it and did a oral book report. The book has too much going on. First she's with her mom, then her mom gives her away, then she leaves?

3-0 out of 5 stars Born Blue

5-0 out of 5 stars What? Where? When?
This is another great book by Cabot! I can't really say much except that it had a bunch of twists and turns. First all evidence says this guy was a killer, but WAIT no its this guy, WAIT it could be either...the whole book was like that. Exciting, different, and exactly what book lovers want. I LOVED it! I definately reccomend it!

4-0 out of 5 stars a good book
This book is good a little scattered in places , and the plot is kinda all over the place but it still is a really good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sequel To A Well Written Series (Spoiler Warning)
The second book in the Mediator Series, Ninth Key, is really very good.I didn't see the plot coming from anywhere. The whole book is filled with twists and turns as to whom the ghost, who came screaming in while Suze was trying to sleep, exactly is.It leads her onto an adventure to find out who the infamous "Red" is, and sends her investigating the past of her boyfriend, Tad's father.Of course, Suze really doesn't consider him to be her boyfriend. She rather that be Jesse, "whose ghostly status--not to mention apparent disinterest in her--make him unattainable." ...
