4-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew, Facts and Feminism
If you're looking for behind-the-scenes info on Nancy Drew, this is a pretty good source. It's fairly light-reading while still being informative on Edward Stratemeyer (the force behind the book series syndicate that brought us "The Bobsey Twins", "The Hardy Boys", "Nancy Drew", etc), on his daughter Harriet (who, along with her sister, took over the syndicate after his death), and on the feisty ghost writer behind the creation of Nancy Drew, Mildred Wirt Benson. The author presents the two women, as well as the fictional Nancy Drew, as feminist icons (sometimes, straining mightly against the facts). Still, a great deal of research seems to have gone into this book which makes the turbid wade thru feminist waters worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew-- the inside story...by a sleuthing author....FUN
Amazingly fun reading. Melanie Rehak is very detailed and did her sleuthing research on Nancy Drew and the women (and men, YES) who created her. This is Rehak's first book -- but she's known in NY circles for her articles and reviews etc....she does a terrific job tracing Nancy Drew's history and role in popular culture from 1930 to today....80 million books later-- she (Nancy Drew) is a cultural phenom that seems to transcend age and the web. Just in time for summer reading -- did you know the new Nancy Drew movie starring Julie Roberts niece just wrapped and will be heading for theatres soon...The info on the STratemeyers including Ed the dime novel genius and his daughters such as Harriett is fascinating. Kudos to Mildred Wirt Benson-- originally from Ohio I believe....who ctually wrote unde rthe pen name of Carolyn Keene....from The Secret of the Old Clock to the latest incarnations such as Papercutz American Anime Nancy Drew Versions ([...]-- and yes I do know the guys there) you'll find a version and tale of Nancy Drew for everyone. Great gift. Don't worry the book looks old but that's the cover design...There's also a discussion guide available at [...] so you're reading club can add this to your collection....great cocktail party chatter or fun shower gift or Bridesmaid token....enjoy.....!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars An irresistible weave
Author Melanie Rehak does a superb job of weaving together the threads of social history, an enduring character, the women who created the character, the business that sold the character, the woman who ran the business, and the man who started it all. I relished reading all the "inside stories" of how the Nancy Drew and her series came to be. More startling but equally delightful was realizing how thoroughly--and positively--my adult outlook on life was influenced by all those girlhood hours spent in the company of the spunky girl sleuth. Bravo, Melanie Rehak. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank and Nancy Made 4 each Other!
u know this is by far the most exciting bookk i've read till now in the nacy drew and hardy boys super myteries. but i do think that nancy should leave ned and frank shuld leave calie cuz nancy and frank r so much alike and they r truly made 4 each other so caroline keene plz if u get upon this review do consider this cuz most of us wanty nancy/frank relationship and they shuld just 4get callie and ned.

5-0 out of 5 stars TAKE MY WORD> THIS BOOK IS GOOD
i loved this book a lot. BEsides the nancy and frank aspect, there was a lot of action, bombs, knives, terrorsits etc..of course the nancy frank thing convinced me to buy the book, but i enjoyed the mystery a lot too. I also likes how nancy is portrayed in this book, not like in Operation titanic or royal revenge, she is very clever. also Unlke all other super mysteries, Frank's thoughts and feelings are portrayed deeper than all other characthers. And there are some funnny things and comments going on between the brothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy and Frank Forever
I think that Nancy and Frank should dump their boyfriends and girlfriends and stay together. I mean they are obviosly perfect for each other. The best parts are when they almost kiss. But when they kiss, that was good too!!! This is the best book ever!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read!!!! :)
This is definitely the best book in the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys series... :) Don't listen to anybody if they say it stunk, becuz it is really good! It has alot of Nancy/Frank stuff, and has TONS of action... I don't think you could get any more action in a book. I have read this book 4 times, and I still don't get tired of reading it! :) The thing that makes it really good is the close calls... and this book has ALOT of them! If you like a very suspenseful book, this is the one for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shock Waves
It was an interesting mystery filled with excitement, romance and a good mystery. I would recomend this book to anybody who likes mysterys, treasure hunts, islands of mysterys and romance.

3-0 out of 5 stars Joe's keys
I think the best part was when Iola's keys were stolen, and how Joe reacted. It was great because he'll never forget her, no matter how many girlfriends he has. I loved this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Book!
It was a neat book. Nancy and George go on a wilderness trek and when things get suspicious, Nancy calles in the Hardys. It had lots of excitement though it didn't really have any romance. I especially like theway they meet. It's funny. I also like when they were in they raft. Icouldn't put it down and I definatly reccomend it.-RJG,12

1-0 out of 5 stars This series is rather juvenile
I grew up with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.I've read some of the original editions (which unfortunately reflect the sexism and overt racism of their pre-WWII origins), all but one or two of the re-writes from the 1960s and 1970s (which are better in those categories), and significant proportion of the 'new' versions.
4-0 out of 5 stars One cool book!
This Book was really great. I loved the action and the scam. It was great. I really think that people 10 and up would enjoy this book alot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Islands of Intrigue -- Fabulous!
Among the rocky coasts, shimmering turquoise waters and ancient ruins of Greece you can rest assured that a mystery lies in wait for Nancy Drew and the Hardy brothers.
4-0 out of 5 stars The review of Islands of Intrigue
As a big Nancy Drew fan I found this book exciting and one of the best books in the Super Mystery series. It has excitment and suspence, not to mention mystery! As Nancy finds herself and Bess( Nancy's best friend) inthe romantic islands of Greece she also finds herself a mystery as a newfriend of hers,Alexis Canstantine, is kidnapped. Well just as she alwaysdoes, Nancy sees this as a chance for a much enjoyable mystery. Meanwhilethe famous brothers, Frank and Joe Hardy, also find them selves in Greecebut for a different reason. They are there to follow a man accused ofstealing a dozen of U.S. super powered misiles. I give this book two thumbsup! It was an exciting page turner, you won't be able to put it down!

5-0 out of 5 stars yeah it was good!
When are ya'll people gonna learn that the whole Nancy and Frank thing is utterly and completely over. They kissed how many times two thats right only TWO.Then after that they admitted that it felt very very wrong and very awkward. I mean they say that they LOVE Ned and Callie they just don'tlove other people they love Callie and Ned. So get out of your head thatthere is ever gonna be a thang going on between Nancy and Frank!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best One EVER!!!
This is the best book! in the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys uper Mystery. Although it does have some questions such as how did Nancy get in the FBI? I don't know. Ifyou put that all aside, its and action packed aventure. Betrayl, adventure, and..... murder are all in this one book. This is a must read! (if you have read this already, read Evil in Amsterdam. That's the second best Nancy Drew and Hardy boys Super Mystery. ALMOST came in first but Spies and Lies pulled through!)

1-0 out of 5 stars I failed to suspend my disbelief...
To enjoy a work of fiction, you have to be able to suspend your disbelief. That is, the author has to give you a setting that you think could be plausible in this or some other world.4-0 out of 5 stars spies and lies....
i really liked this nancy drew and hardy boys super mystery. it was intriuging and suspenseful. i especially liked the ending of it because it was hard to guess who the culprit of the crime was. joe and frank's mystery was not as good as nancy's in the story though. which is okay because a lot of times their mystery is a lot more suspenseful. as for the romance aspect a different guy other then frank liked nancy and i really want nancy and frank to hook up so i was disappointed but overall it was a smashing book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It was.......GOOD........
I thought the book was very good but it made me mad how Nancy likes Mick rather then Frank. Frank didn't even seem BOTHERED by the looks Nancy and Mick gave each other. The mystery was a cool one but it wasn't exciting and it was kinda slow.5-0 out of 5 stars This is spreading like bush-fire!
This book is the coolest ! It is not only the most excellant book that I've ever read, but the most thrilling, too! Nancy Drew had to keep up with the Hardy boys in the first part, but they had quite a job trying to catchher up in the end! GREAT BOOK, CAROLYN!

2-0 out of 5 stars It could have been worse...
I grew up with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.I've read some of the original editions (which unfortunately reflect the sexism and overt racism of their pre-WWII origins), all but one or two of the re-writes from the 1960s and 1970s (which are better in those categories), and significant proportion of the 'new' versions.4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the read
I really liked this one, even if there wasn't really any Nancy/Frank stuff in it. It was exciting and funny, and I've read it about a hundred times already!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting and VERY intruging!!
THis is one of my favorite Nancy Drew and Hardy boys mystery I've ever read!! It all starts when Nancy goes to Japan for a vacation and is checking in to her hotel. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Exciting Teen Thriller
Nancy Drew and her best friends, Bess and George, have only sun, boys, and surf on their minds, when they head to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for a week of fun. Who knew that they should be expecting attempted murder. Nancy, George, and Bess soon find out that their friend, Kim, who's already been vacationing in Ft. Lauderdale for a week, has been struck during a hit-and-run, on purpose. Now, as Kim lies in a hospital bed close to death, Nancy sets out to find the murderer, and she only has one clue to go by, the name "Rosita," which is what Kim said to Nancy just before she lost consciousness. Suddenly, Nancy finds herself thrown into a whirwind of murder and deceit, and realizes that there is now a new target. And that's Nancy herself.5-0 out of 5 stars An exciting water mystery based in Florida at Ft. Lauderdale
In this Nancy Drew book Nancy finds herself yet again trying to take avacation with her friends Bess and George, and as always Nancy's vacation isgoing to take a turn for the worst when one of her friends (not Bess orGeorge) is involved in a hit-and-run. Before Nancy's friend, Kim, fallsunconscious she manages to mumble some words to Nancy. The words Kimmumbled were "Rosita...The...it was...Rosita.", Nancy didn't havemuch to go on but she knew that the hit-and-run intentional. She had tofind out who had ran Kim down and why. Once again Nancy Drew was on thecase. The thing I found interesting about this book is that it took placemainly on the beachs of sunny Florida to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The weird thing is that I hate movies and books dealing with captivity onboats or anything dealing with the ocean. This however was a veryinteresting book that kept me on edge. I really was kept on edge when Nancywas tied to a piler by a man who had knocked her out with a blow to thehead. I thought it was very discriptive on telling how Nancy was able toget untied and on the pier before she drowned. There were many charactersin the story that I couldn't decide whether they were good or bad. One ofthe main characters that really got me stuck was Dirk Bowman. He was one ofthe new guys Bess had picked up. At first he seemed to be good then hestarted hitting on Nancy and hurt Bess emotionally. Then he took Nancy to asecluded island where I thought he was going to try to kill her, whichactually almost happened when her windsurfer broke in half. But later inthe book I learned that he was an under cover cop who was trying to solvethe same case Nancy was working on. Not only is the book about Nancy'sfriend being hit by a car but it's also about Kim helping an illegal alienescape the hardship of working on a orchard for the lady that smuggled herinto the country. The story unfolds in telling all the details about whoand why Kim was almost killed. I recommend this book to any Nancy Drew fanand even to those that just like mysteries.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tropic of Fear
Carolyn Keen's books are very well-done mysteries for younger audiences, but as you get older they get a little dull. Still, Carolyn Keen is very good at composing mysteries; she balances out the mystery well with good pacing, multiple threads that tie in together, and interesting concepts. I guess even as you get older, you can learn a few bits of trivia from the Nancy Drew series. The characterizations, however, are fairly stereotypical. (In other words, don't read this series for character development.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I loved this book. It was interesting to see how Joe reacted to when he thought that Frank was dead. I thought it was rather understated.
