1-0 out of 5 stars What, did her publisher only give her a week to write this?
I finished reading this book a while back, but I just now got around to posting my review.I absolutely hated this book.Though it did try to tie in with the information provided in Angel season 5 (which takes place at the same time as this novel), it did not do a very good job at it.Some of the information was incorrect or flat out not plausible. Some of it also did not fit in with the timeline on Angel; such as the events surrounding Andrew's visit to Wolfram & Hart.Another thing is that the writer, Nancy Holder, didn't write the characters very well. The people were either all out of character or the far, extreme stereotype of that character. This was reflected not only in their behavior and mannerisms, but also in the decisions that were made. The odd behavior was especially true for Xander, Faith and Robin.Robin Wood wasn't like himself at all.He is a very professional, well spoken man, but the author wrote him like a stereotypical black thug.In regards to the decision making, where they go after leaving California is not where I think Joss Whedon (the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would have sent them.In the book, a surviving watcher had just begun to rebuild the Watchers Council from scratch. He was just as stuffy and arrogant as the original Watchers Council leaders had been.In addition to being a NEW council, they obviously did not have the connections or power that the old council had (which wasn't that great even at their best). The characters also put too much trust into The Immortal - a man who's history has been clouded by neither evil nor good acts (if that makes any sense at all).
1-0 out of 5 stars A Horrible Blot On The Sparkling Buffyverse
When I heard that a book was being released detailing what happened in the Buffyverse after the Sunnydale Hellmouth's closing, I was very excited. The only hints as to what happened to Buffy and gang were a few vague hints during season five of 'Angel'.I figured it would be nice to know what happened to the crew.I wish I hadn't found out.
5-0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU NANCY HOLDER!
I am no literary critic. To be honest I hate reading. I prefer to watch TV like oh let's see....."Buffy The Vampire Slayer," or maybe "Angel?" So when I found out there was a book that picked up right where the last episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" ended I was completely excited, and let me just say my excitement was totally justified.

4-0 out of 5 stars Blackout by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Blackout by Keith R.A. DeCandido is a well written and entertaining story. It is a "Spike" story, and you won't find any of the Scoobies or Buffy in this tale.It takes place in 1977 New York, and fills out the story of the last few days in the life of Nikki, the Vampire Slayer. The story alternates between Nikki's tale and Spike's, who has come to New York to bag himself his second slayer.Standing between Spike and his final confrontation with Nikki is a local Vampire mob boss, who wants Spike either recruited into his organization or dusted. When Dru unexpectedly arrives in NY, things really heat up.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Buffy novel yet
Finally, I was happy with a Buffy novel. I actually read this book in one day, I couldn't put it down.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Exactly Faithful
During Season Three of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, viewers were introduced to Faith, a bold Slayer who loved breaking the rules and testing the limits. A fan favorite, she appeared on the spin-off series Angel on multiple occasions, then came back to BtVS during its final season.
5-0 out of 5 stars Feed Your Head
The book's title is a reference to the 1971 classic, "Go Ask Alice," a cautionary tale about drug use which took its name from the 1967 Jefferson Airplane hit, "White Rabbit" about a girl who ends up overdosing. Somehow the author perfectly captures the structure of the original book while maintaining Faith's voice magnificently. And this is no cautionary tale. While a simple analysis of Faith might reduce her to a self-destructive youth, this book gets underneath the dualism (one pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small) within her...We are drawn to danger, even when it hurts us. It is why we love Faith. She is a reflection of the conflicting forces within each of us. This and other themes are woven into a brilliantly conceived plot. If you are a Buffy fan, READ THIS BOOK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Faith's Background
I have been a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan since the original bad movie was released.

3-0 out of 5 stars Deja Spike All Over Again
This book fails for a number of reasons, none of which is the writing.Gallagher puts in an honest effort, and if good writing was all it took to create a great story, Spark and Burn would be a success.Unfortunately, the problem with the book appears right on the front cover, where we are promised an 'original novel,' and it never goes away.
1-0 out of 5 stars just plain bad
I agree with most of the other reviews, this book was horrible. I read the discription on the back of the book and was instantly interested ( being a huge spike fan ) and bought it. but I was very disapointed, the whole thing is just flash backs that come directly from the show and the autor didnt add anything. I would rather just watch the show!!! Plus the flash backs are out of order, leaving you confused. DON'T BUY THIS BOOK, YOU WILL REGRET IT.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring and Depressing
This book rehashes info from the show, no new material, and is depressing in that the Spike character acts more like Angel in his depressed, regretful view (one reason I'm not crazy about Angel. To mopey.)It may be important to visit this topic for character development, but the epi on tv was enough. It would be nice to have some fiction that tells Spike's story after "Angel", maybe with some Spuffy love. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting
When I first read the back of this book, I was so excited. It sounded like an excellent read. I waited until all three books came out and then I bought them. And then I read them, and was extremely disappointed.4-0 out of 5 stars Burning
"Unseen" is a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel crossover triligy focusing on a group of kidnapped teenagers.Salma, a privliged Mexican at Sunnydale Collage, goes to Buffy and Willow to help with her brother who went missing.Meanwhile back in Los Angeles, Angel gets involved with a man who was framed by crooked cops, and his psychic son.Cordelia and Wes track down a bunch of vampire worshiping teenagers. All of these stories do not come together in this book. But there is a lot of conflict; Angel seems at odds with Riley (Buffy's new boyfriend), LAPD detective Kate Lockly, and even Buffy herself.Xander get envious of Spike because of him and Anya having so much in common; Giles and Wesley have a battle of the experts.I liked this book, and I couldn't wait until the next one.One little problem is that the "Unseen" series isn't as good as "The Gatekeeper Triligy" or "The Lost Slayer" series, but still pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Burning
After reading this book I got hooked on the u.p.n. drama BuffyThe VampireSlayer and you will to. I don''t want to go into detail because I might give away the ending so my advice to you BUY IT...Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another good book
This is the type of book I get a little sad when I get near the end. Must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars 1 of the best Buffy books
This is 1 of my favorite books ever, 1 f my favorite story lines was Blood and Brine I loved the pirate slayer. My favorite story in this book was the last 1 where Buffy, Willow, and Xander go back in time I loved the fact that Buffy got to see her mom again and that she wasn't stuck with Dawn for once. I think that when the show brought Dawn on the show and killed Buffy's mom is when they ruint Buffy, from the 5th season on the show slowly went downhill. I HIGHLY recommend this book it is definitely the best Buffy book in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this Book..........
I've always love BTVS because of the Mythology of the Slayer line and how she's Chosen and all of that, I also love the characters and how they're written so well.....But i've often wondered about Past Slayers, what they were like, and what their life was like because as we've always known, Buffy is just one of many Slayers throughout the Years. I loved this Book and how it told about Different Slayers from Different Era's and how that particular Era effected their Duty as the Slayer. Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars You'll need a seatbelt, this is one bumpy ride!
WOW!That was a whirlwind of chaos and loose ends never tied up.
2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't care for the characterizations
This book seemed pretty flat to me, compared to the characters on the TV show.Especially the sub-plot surrounding Spike. There was a lot "happening" in this book, but I couldn't be moved to care much.Unlike the show, where you can go from tears to laughing out loud in a heartbeat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I heard these were coming out, and it was approaching my birthday of last June, I got thise and play tickets from my mom after serious begging. She bought me them as soon as each one came out, funny thing is my best friend who doestn live at all close to me, got me the first one. But this is on the third one, it was a very well written book. The scenes between Buffy and Angel were pricless and touch the b/a shippers heart. A problem was of how much Buffy acted as if she loved Riley more than anything of the world, and Angel was past, why he dreamed about her and their forgotten day. Otherwise it is a good read, as a fan of either show, or the B/A or even b/r(gag) relationship. Just one thing to people who read my review or somethign that would never happen Nancy and Jeff read this, what the hell happend to Spike?! Is there a new crossover triogly in the making*looks hopeful* ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Door to Alternity
"Door to Alternity" continues the "Unseen" triligy with the connection between missing children in L.A. and monsters appearing in droves in Sunnydale becoming clearer.Team Angel and The Scobbie Gang are working harder than ever as they try to solve the mysteries and keep the monsters under control. Also the reason for all these strange occurences becomes clear; it dates back to a Cold War science experiment by the KGB to alter reality, all for the glory of the State. Now it is being used to try to blackmail prominant U.S. citizens to bring back the glory days. Also a gang war brakes out between the Mexican Mob and the Russians. All of this makes for a very complicated story, there is a lot going on.Sometimes it gets a little confusing, but never so bad you can't follow the story. It was ok, but certainly suffering from being the bridge book. You have a lot of information and set up for the last book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Door to Alternity Review
I can't figure out what Salma is runnign from even tough i read books 2 and 3 of the crossover!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Willow comes into her own
I'm glad there was a series of books written abou Willow. She's been in Buffy's shadow long enough.Even though they were best of friends and Willow never begrudged Buffy the limelight, everyone deserves a little attention, even though it's for the bad things we do.It's Human Nature!I haven't finished part 3 yet and hopefully it will end on a happy note!I love happy endings! But it's just "what if" anyway.Excellent read!

5-0 out of 5 stars What if...
I really like this trilogy, because I know that there wasn't much time -t.v episode wise- to really take the episodes leading up to the finale where this book goes. I especially enjoyed the killing off of two annoying characters that aren't on the show, (1 of who was a character) and making this person a personal dummy-pet to Willow. Go Willow!
1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Buffy serious ever
This isBAD rewrite of the Season 6 finale when Willow went bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Road Trip for 'Buffy' and the Scooby Gang
Sunnydale is known to be situated right upon the Hellmouth, so it's not a big surprise when demons of all sorts start piling into the small town. But when a collection of trolls, sea monsters, werewolves, toads, skyquakes, and numerous other strange things - stranger than normal things - begin infiltrating Sunnydale, Buffy knows that something isn't quite right. And with Giles hospitalized over three-thousand miles away, Buffy knows that it's more than one Slayer can handle. Especially when each ugly is coming through an old portal from centuries ago, through time and space. Buffy knows that the hell-hole must be found and corked ASAP, which means that Buffy, Angel, and the rest of the Scooby Gang are headed to Boston to meet up with the Gatekeeper. However, once there, Buffy finds that the supernatural mansion that the Gatekeeper reigns over, is home to thousands of rooms, all of which are entrances to so-called "ghost roads," that could bring Buffy face-to-face with some of the most evil beings on earth. Evil beings who are dying to teach the Slayer a lesson.

I had this book for quite some time, but deferred from reading it until I re-watched seasons 5, 6, and 7 - which this book covers. If you are not familiar with the Watcher's Guides, they are books designed for Buffy fans filled with (in the past) episode guides, character summaries, memorable quotes, crew and cast interviews, and photos from the show.

SONS OF ENTROPY
5-0 out of 5 stars A great Buffy the Vampire Slayer trilogy
You know how many times you get suckered into buying a bunch of paperbacks because it is some giant continued story?Well, trust me, this one is well worth the investment in time and cash.Golden and Holder are far and away the best writers working on Buffy books and in this entire series they get free reign with the characters and their imagination. There is also a respect for Buffy and her friends you do not always get in such books.Let me put it another way: you know how good this series is?I went out and got a hardback edition because this is a keeper (even if you do not have a gate).

5-0 out of 5 stars The concluding book in an epic Buffy trilogy
The Gatekeeper Trilogy is far and away the best of the Buffy books.Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder are far and away the best writers working on the books.Since they are also the main authors of the Watcher Guides they certainly have the requisite knowledge of the characters and the Buffy mythos. In retrospect I ended up feeling about these three books pretty much the way I did about the original Star Wars trilogy where the second one is the best and the finale has a bit of trouble living up to your expectations because what has gone before has been so great. However, put them together and they simply set the bar higher for everyone who comes in their wake.Read more

Cursed, according to the inside flap, takes place in an alternate-continuity between Buffy's fifth, and Angel's third seasons.Yet, in spite of that message, I found while reading the book that the timing felt off -- way off.Like maybe this should have happened after Buffy's sixth season, because of the relationship development between her and Spike or at least during, because Connor's infancy also plays a role in the story.Nonetheless, the story tells the tale of a gypsy artifact, a woman who played a role in both Angelus and Spike's history, and a desire to keep the artifacts out of the hands of the bad guys. With Angel on a mission from Giles, and Spike trying to get some money to pay off a loan shark, both of our vamps are in L.A. trying not to let their past destroy their future.Of course, Buffy, at least in Spike's mind, hangs in the background over both of her lovers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Novel
This was a novel I wasn't sure I would like, since I am not a big Angel fan (neither the character nor the series), but I was pleasantly surprised. Mel Odom has written a complex, captivating story. All the players are wonderfully kept in character, with no continuity problems or slip-ups, as has happened with other writers.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best Buffy book
I did not enjoy reading this Buffy book at all. I found it to be very boring--way too much dialogue and way to little action. The author had the Scoobys arguing and explaining everything over and over again, as if the characters were strangers and had no chemistry.I didn't feel as though the author captured the characters or their relationships well at all. He had Buffy constantly feeling negative thoughts and irritation toward Willow, when their friendship (especially in the early years) was quite respectful and true blue. Giles and Buffy seemed to be depicted as not close at all and even early in their relationship, there was still love and understanding there, which I was not feeling from this book. And don't get me started on Xander, who was depicted as no-nonsense, hard-working and independent. Where was our happy-go-lucky, bumbling, jokester? (Remember, this book is supposed to be one year after Buffy came to town, so season 2, right?) I just wasn't buying it. Maybe part of the reason was that the time frame was never really clear until late in the book, or did I miss something? On that note, I must have missed something because Buffy and Angel hardly seemed to know each other, but Xander and Cordelia were already sneaking around, which didn't happen until Buffy and Angel were already going pretty hot and heavy (but before the whole Angelus stuff, so not that hot and heavy, but in love, ice skating rink, kissing Angel's demon face, ring a bell?).
4-0 out of 5 stars Fun
This book was good if a little dry at times. For the most part it keeps you entertained. I like that Cordelia had a big role in the storyline. Usually in the Buffy books she is persona non grata. I did think there should be more focus on Buffy though. It did annoy me that the book didn't narrow down the time period it was set in until close to the end (the writer finally revealed it was set about a year after Buffy came to town). I wanted more about the back story of Buffy. But for a short read this was pretty good. I would recommend it to anyone with a few free hours on their hands.

4-0 out of 5 stars "I'm not stupid," Cordelia interrupted.
If I hadn't just read 'Spark and Burn,' I would say that 'Afterimage' boded well for the future of Buffy as a book series.Pierce Askegren wedges this story into the time period just as Xander and Cordelia are about to become an item. It's Buffy's junior year during that brief but magical time when things seemed to be going well.Well, as well as slayage ever gets.As stranger (Balsamo) comes to town with a plan to resurrect the Sunnydale drive-in in true 50's style and suddenly waves of strange events haunt the world's most haunted town.

2-0 out of 5 stars ok grasp of the show but the story is so-so
Normally I like the entire "female power" thing but frankly the "this is wrong" or "evil" part of that storyline is really old.In an era where girls do try out for and get placed on "boys" teams, these issues seem outdated.Likewise rules were recently changed in Indiana (not even slightly a liberal state) that says any pageant receiving state funds cannot discriminate on the basis of sex or gender.I know, this book is from 1999, but we are living in a conservative backlash politically and this is still happening, changes are happening.Overall I felt the book had a very negative view of the gender roles and did not do anything to suggest they should be different.Even the disempowered girl who creates the initial problems with her "magic" is empowered through a pageant and her cooking. How much more gender role enforcement can we have?Really, with a strong female lead, shouldn't a Buffy universe story do better than this?In general the feel of the relationships and lingo between the main characters was fine but not particularly outstanding.

POWER OF PERSUASION
4-0 out of 5 stars "We've Sensed Something In You..."
Set in season three of the television show, "Powers of Persuasion" is one of the most worthwhile "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" novelisations out there. Author Elizabeth Massie brings together a great twisting story, lively characterisation and sense of danger and camaraderie that made the first three seasons of "Buffy" so enjoyable.
