5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read!
I was so eager to get to SKYBREAKER after AIRBORN I ordered it from the bookstore, started it and five hours later was done. I couldn't put it down. After AIRBORN I had no idea what else could happen to Matt and Kate, but Oppell continues to surprise and astound you with his vivid imagination and talent to bring his story to life. As I read about their adventures in obtaining a mystical, ghost-like air-ship in the sky, I felt as if I was seeing the movie in my head. His attention to detail and ability to bring the characters to life leave you wanting more. You also find yourself cheering on Matt and Kate, and a few other new characters, as they try to obtain what everyone else has failed at...the elusive HYPERION. Now, I'm am anxiously awaiting a 3rd book! This second book was just as good as the first, similar to Harry Potter in nature this book will appeal to all kinds of adults and children. I would recommend reading AIRBORN before reading this one to get the full background on our hero, Matt Cruse!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book
I really liked Skybreaker by Kenneth Oppel. It is an excellent sequel to the first book, Airborn. It's setting ranges from France all the way to Antarctica as the game goes on. Although no time frame is given, I believe that it was set in the past. The genre is a mix between historical fiction, sci-fi, and mystery. The past setting separates it from other sci-fi stories, and the fact that it strays so much from historical fact (flying jellyfish-squid things) seperates it from pure historical fiction. I believe that anyone who likes a good adventure story would like this book, due to the fact that that is what this book is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Skybreaker Response
I loved this book! I simply couldn't put it down. Kenneth Oppel has a great way of keeping my eyes glued to the book. I couldn't hold the suspense most of the time; I found my eyes skipping to the bottom of the page. Luckily, I forced myself to go back and read it so I would understand what was happening! This book took me 2 days to finish reading, it was very captivating and I had a hard time putting it away. I like the way he told the story because every chapter continued from the last and it was very exciting to read on although it was a long book.

this book sound really good so im probably going to purchace it although it sounds like somthing i have had planned for a while. ugh. lol.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I loved this book.It gave a new twist to ghosts (I had just finished Meg Cabot's Mediator series right before starting this book).I'm very superficial and do judge books by the covers and didn't think I'd like this one, but after a slightly slow beginning it got really interesting.I gave it to my sister to read and she liked it too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding Debut
This was a wonderful book. I loved it. I read it a couple of months ago and I'm still thinking about it, which says something really positive. Two ghosts meet and fall in love in a high school English class. Next they have to figure out how to get together physically. It's hard to say more than that without giving away too much plot. Suffice it to say, this is a wonderfully touching story about two damaged spirits who find a way to help not only themselves but also some very damaged living beings with whom they come into contact.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was moved.
This was a fitting completion to the trilogy.Messenger finally brings in the plot elements of The Giver as well as its themes, entwining them with Gathering Blue, so we can see a land where spirit and physical combine into something greater. However, a minor warning:some scenes in this final novel are so gruesome they would be inappropriate for younger readers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up story to the Giver and Gathering Blue
This was a great mysterious tear jerker. It really makes you think. I have read the first two books "The Giver" and "Gathering Blue" so I'm not sure how it would read without having read the first two. I would love to have a 4th story to tie in the characters more.

2-0 out of 5 stars It is a must NOT read!
I DID NOT LIKE this book. It was sooooo retarted and i would not recommend it to anyone, ever. I had to read it for school and it was very hard to get through it, I'll tell you that. But, it was ok... in that it was better then the other book we had to read and the book we had to read last year. Definetely. I have never read the giver or gathering blue so I can't tell you how it relates to those but if it's like this one, I wouldn't recommend those either. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining gothic fantasy
A Great and Terrible Beauty is a fascinating book. It's a gothic novel and the somewhat typical fantasy about the protaganist developing supernatural abilities and finding a special destiny, but it's also a coming of age story and one about four girls trying to find a place in a society that doesn't value them for who they are.
5-0 out of 5 stars interestedreader
This is the book that got me interested in reading it is one in a million, and i can't begin to say how much i enjoyed it. In the first chapter someone is killed which leads to other interesting events. The main character is loveable. If you are not into reading this will definately get you reading especially if you like historical fiction. although it is more fiction than historical.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great and Beautiful Book!
After reading my favorite book the North Kingdom, I found it difficult to find another book that I wanted to read. Luckily, I came across A Great and Terrible Beauty and what a treat it was to find. It is set in my favorite era the Victorian Age and takes place at a school for young ladies to help them become society's women and marriageable prospects. Gemma quickly finds herself on the ins with the popular girls. There is the usual mischief that adolescents find themselves in drinking sneaking out, but Gemma and her friends soon learn about a secret order that used to exist at the school many years before until a terrible fire occurred resulting in two deaths. And Gemma has the power to bring it back as she is able to enter the realm. This novel is both intriguing and a delight to read. I had trouble putting it down and even before I was finished with it I went out and bought the sequel. So read A Great and Terrible Beauty today, you won't be disappointed! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beat the Street
In this work three African American doctors tell the story of how they used their brains, loyalty, and few good chances to escape their tough urban neighborhood, go to college and medical school, and become doctors. The book is targeted for an adolescent audience, although there is an adult version, called "The Pact" available. At the end of each chapter, the doctors give some advice to young people who want to achieve more than those around them expect.
1-0 out of 5 stars ew.
I, for one, am not a fan of inspirational stories. I honestly thought that this is one of the most studpid books I ever read. I had to read this for summer reading and I really did not enjoy it. At all. Yay, so three boys from the ghetto became doctors. Incredible. Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Don't waste your time. It's stupid.

4-0 out of 5 stars We Beat the Street
A truely inspiring story, who's characters quickly gain your empathy and respect. Following the three men through there lowest and happiest moments is what makes the book so real. This is a great tool for teenagers/young adults who may need the extra push, or example to follow to drive them toward their dreams.A perfect reason for keeping Affirmative action alive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Last Book In The Universe-Resists The Probe
Last Book In The Universe
4-0 out of 5 stars Story of a Great Adventure
The Last Book in the Universe really makes you think about the future. It shows you that the future might not be as bright as we hoped. Spaz's world is sad and chaotic. Rodman Philbrick has created some really in depth characters. My favorite character was Bean. She was nice to everyone and seemed to understand their situation. As I read, I found myself wanting to be more like her. The book has some great lessons and one of the most important is that reading is a big part of our lives and that without it our world would fall apart, like in the book. When I started this book I couldn't put it down. Spaz was always on the edge of danger and at the end of every chapter there was a cliffhanger.Rodman Philbrick did a great job showing what the Urb and Eden were like and what it was like to live there. I really liked the futuristic language that was used because the words showed how our world changed into that terrible place. The end of the book seemed to leave you hanging and I was a little confused. It felt like there should be more or a sequel to the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Enthralling Novel!!!!!!!!!
Amazing plot! The last book in the Universe is a riveting roller coaster of emotions. The characters in this book are really energizing. Also, their names seize to amaze me. Seriously, who can think up names like Spaz, Lotti Getts, Billy Bizmo, and Ryter?Rodman Philbrick did a remarkable describing the Urb and what it looked like, smelled like, and felt like. Within this book there are numerous sections that are very symbolic. An example of that would be when, Ryter talks about the famous epileptic people compensated for their disease by strengthening their brains. They fought epilepsy with brainpower.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kitty Pryde is the parting gift of the Claremont & Bryne team to the X-Men
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is the epilogue to the Dark Phoenix saga, the swan song for the team of writer Chris Claremont and penciler Johny Byrne as the co-plotters for "The Uncanny X-Men," and the arrival of Kitty Pryde as the newest and youngest pupil in Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters on Graymalkin Lane outside the Westchester County Township of Salem Center. What you will find in this trade paperback collection are issues #138-143 of "The Uncanny X-Men" and Annual #4, where the artwork is handled by John Romita, Jr. & Bob McLeod.
5-0 out of 5 stars The world was never the same again
This are the two comic books that thrust just about every encarnation of the X-Men into a whole new ball game. Did you ever watch the old X-Men cartoon in the 90's where politicians were about to mess with mutants? Remember the Sentinels? How about X-Men Evolution? Sound familiar? What about the first X-Men movie? That's right folks. All these shows have this in common: whole story arcs based on Days of Future Past.
5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS NOT THE DARK PHOENIX TPB!!!
I am in complete agreement with the other reviewer's sentiments regarding the "Dark Phoenix" saga. There's just one problem: THIS IS NOT A REPRINTING OF THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA!!! This is a reprint of the also classic "Day's of Future Past" storyline, which was also penned by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. That storyline actually consists of only two issues, but for this latest edition the good folks at Marvel were kind enough to also include issues 138-140, and issue 143 in addition to issues 141-142. A wonderful collection consisting of the issues that FOLLOWED the "Dark Phoenix Saga". This book also features one of the best comic book battles ever as the X-men face off against the new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. So buy this book people, but please Amazon, get your act together. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite mini series
If you follow Ultimate Marvel, this series is a must have!
4-0 out of 5 stars A good read... nice addition to the "Ultimate" storyline
This was a fine read, with some very effective sequences... The story starts with Earth being bombarded by an intergalactic SOS signal which depicts the annihilation of a highly civilized alien species.Images of their destruction, with corpses piled high in a manner reminiscent of the Holocaust, flood the planet, taking over every broadcast device on the world. Not only do the images interrupt out lives, so does the emotional content of their mass death, with their anguish and fear broadcast on every frequency known to man.A wave of fear and suicidal depression follows, prompting a response by Nick Fury's SHIELD and Professor Xavier's X-Men, with both groups being clueless about the real cause of the "attack."The story unfolds gracefully, aided by striking, hyper-realistic artwork.Best of all, I thought, was the cold, lethal efficiency of the SHIELD agents, which may take some readers by surprise.I found this book thoroughly entertaining... definitely worth checking out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Creepy and really well done but a tad slow
I liked Ellis's work on Ultimate Fantastic Four and I liked the teams being used here (a small squad each from the X-men and the Ultimates) so I picked this up. The writing is very well done and there's a classic horror movie/sci-fi vibe to it that builds up to a nice climax. With a nice small team each of the characters gets a few moments; I particularly like the interaction of Logan and Jean Grey and Falcon and Captain America. On the down side its just a little slow (decompressed style) and there quite a few pages thrown away story-wise.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but could be better...
I must admit that I actually enjoyed When the Wind Blows and this one, The Lake House. But I was a bit dissappointed with the end of The lake House. It went along smoothly but in the end it seemed as if he ran out of thoughts or time. There should be a few more chapters toward the end that aren't there.I felt a little jipped. Also if you read Maximum Ride and its sequel which are also very good, keep in mind that the characters are not related.Maximum from When the Wind Blows and The Lake House is not the same Maximum that is in Maximum Ride and the other children though similar are not the same either. Not sure why he did this, but as seperate stories they are pretty good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Patterson's typical work...
I have recently started reading James Patterson.I have quickly come to enjoy his work on the Alex Cross series. That's why I chose to try this book. What a mistake!
1-0 out of 5 stars The Lake Farce
This book was atrocious. I read fairly fast so despite how bad the book is I try to finish. However this book was unreadable. The story line was boring, the characters... shallow. The worst part is the poor sentence structure and vocabulary used by the characters.I rolled my eyes more times than pages. ... Read more

in my opinion, this is the best installment in the pendragon series. i read it all in a few days. thats amazing becuz i'm one of the slowest readers in my class. :P this is an amazing book with the imagery, amusing metaphors and such. i won't say much for i fear i will ruin the ending, but i can say that this will be an excellent collection to your books. PENDRAGON RULES!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pendragon: A Journey through Time and Space

4-0 out of 5 stars Another fun witchy read.
I'm a huge fan of Sarah Mlynowski and I loved 'Bras and Broomsticks' (the first book - this is the sequel). I thought that this sequel would get better than the first, but I guess nothing will beat it. This has the same humor and witchy goodness as the first and you'll surely enjoy it if you're a fan of Mlynowski as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Frogs and French Kisses
Okay, after reading Bras and broomsticks i couldn't wait until this book came out!!!! Finishing it in one day, i loved this book. Normally sequels aren't always the best but this one was a sequel that was just as good as the first. To me it wasn't better than the first but i loved it just the same. If your a fan of sarah mlynowski and have/want to read bras and broomsticks then i would definetly suggest picking up this book right after you finish the first!

After I had finished reading the first book in this series, BRAS & BROOMSTICKS, I was sure that it couldn't get much better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Where's Volume 2??
I enjoyed volume 1 of Runaways a lot...usually i go for more of the adult themed graphic novels, but this was good.Only problem is, Amazon has every volume of this series except volume 2.I had to buy it elsewhere...
5-0 out of 5 stars Great teen action/adventure/romance
I really enjoyed the storyline of the book. The dialogue was very witty, and the story was well-paced. I really like how the story tried to break stereotypes of young people in showing that they could make a difference in the world and weren't just apathetic bystanders.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Promising Start To An Original Series
Runaways is one of the most original comic books that I've ever heard of.Runaways tells the story of six kids (runaways no less) who have just discovered that their parents are part of some league of supervillains known as The Pride. One of the things that makes the whole situation so clever is that these people live in the Marvel universe, meaning that the X-Men, Spider-man, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four are real to them.Alex, Nico, Gert, Chase, Karolina, and Molly all come from a world inhabited by heroes and villains, yet none of them ever thought that they'd experience that world first-hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Darkness Unravels
Daine and a group of Tortall ambassadors go to Cathak in an attempt to make peace with the Emperor. Daine soon makes friends with the crown prince. However, when she is given a strange power and even stranger things begin to unroll, Daine is swept into it all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Is there trouble ahead ?
"Emperor Mage" is the third book in Tamora Pierce's "The Immortals" quartet. If you haven't read the previous books in the series, please do so because then you will enjoy this one more. I want to point out, too, that some characters in Pierce's "Song of the Lioness" quartet appear here too, so if you have read it you will appreciate this book even more. Despite that, and as I already said in a previous review regarding "The immortals", this new series can also be read on its own.
