5-0 out of 5 stars Great read which actually offers clever villains.
First off, many of the readers who seemed disappointed with this are mostly fans of the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book. The style is very different and is better suited for fans of The Ultimates.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good action...after a LOT of talk
Nick Fury of S.H.E.I.L.D. and his Ultimates (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Giant Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow) have rounded up five of the most dangerous mutants around, and have them locked up together. There's a war coming, and Fury wants whatever secrets they have. But, in putting Dr. Octopus, the Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro and Kraven the Hunter all together, he might just end up with a war right now. And, if its one thing that these villains have in common it's Spiderman.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 9: Ultimate Six
The individual issues that are collected in this TPB contain the best (as of the time of its publication) crossover of Ultimate universe characters to be found.Spider-Man is hunted by a newly envisioned "Sinister Six" and must take sanctuary under the mighty wings of SHIELD and the Ultimates if he is to survive.Throughout the series, Spider-Man interacts with Nick Fury and the Ultimates, learns how truly dangerous and maniacal his enemies are, and worries about the safety of the people he holds dear. This series also presented very interesting interaction between Nick Fury and Captain America, with the latter correctly realizing and vocalizing the connection between these crazy super-powered villains and his own origin. This creates a significant fissure in the relationship between these two characters.All-in-all, this series provided more of the excellent storytelling and art to be found in Ultimate Spider-Man. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars There are maybe... no, wait, I'm wrong.
There is nothing better than this, my all time favorite book. With great characters, and a wonderful plot, there is very little more a good reader could want. It has emotion, action, and still maintains great writing. You have a main character who is easy to fall in love with, for all her faults, and her other half, the other main character, who you also come to love with all your heart. The story keeps moving, and doesn't get boring for a second, because even in the less interesting parts, it's not boring, just less interesting than the brilliant other parts. The story itself is great and amazing, and every other synonym.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting storyline
Fantasy not being my favorite, I found this one very good.I listened to it on audio CD, and it is read by a whole cast, not just one person doing different voices.A young girl is thrust into a harrowing adventure that she never expected. She lives in a world where each human has a demon, and civilization seems to be run by the "church".This story is very tense and exciting, going from one unexpected incident to the next with a very flowing narrative.

5-0 out of 5 stars This's been my favorite book for 8 years
If you're an easily offended religious fanatic who's always looking for the vaguest insult or contradiction to your beliefs... I guess you shouldn't read this. (Actually, you could probably read this one and just skip the sequels.)

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been a great series
There was so very much to like about this series. The action was well realized, fast paced, and imaginatively told. These are like adventure war novels set in the forgotton realms. The characters are, for the most part interesting- replete with interestingly rendered orcs. There is even a hint that in the numerous-perhaps unending-skirmishes between orcs and the dwarves, that maybe the orcs weren't always at fault. There is character development-though not much.So I have to admit that I read each of these books in about two days after I got them and I thought they were, on the whole, a fun read.
1-0 out of 5 stars Written for money and nothing more
This is a bland tale with no suspense or unpredictability whatsoever. It has become obvious with Drizzt books that RAS is only now writing them for money and not for actual content.and for god's sake, kill somebody already!

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Ending to the Series
Absolutely horrible ending to this series which wasn't very good to begin with.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great overall, almost excellent if not for...
The book is a good read with the short stories and the relevance to today's world is striking is some of those stories. The stories are mainly from the late 40's and early 50's and show a haunting look at what could be.There are, however, some stories that do drag and really don't hold the readers attention, but, thankfully, these stories are few and far between.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Illustrated Tale . . .
This book is simply amazing!I needed to read this book as a summer reading project, and as soon as I read the first story, I found out that the book was based on Science Fiction. It's a topic that I really hate it!However, as I read further and further into the book, I decided that I loved it!Each story bases itself around science, like people living on the moon or on Mars. Also, there are some controversial goings-on in this novel. In one short story titled "The Man", it seems as though a traveler would stop by towns and heal people. The man in this story almost sounds as though he is Jesus.Anyway, this book is still amazing. If you love Sci Fi, then buy it now!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I would give it 10 stars if I could...
I think it was first my 8th grade teacher Mrs. Forenza who introducted me to Ray Bradbury when we studied the story "The Veldt"... then it was my father who opened his bookshelves and gave me his entire collection of Ray Bradbury when I asked him if he ever heard of him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Warriors Series
The Warriors series is the best series in the world! It's suspenseful and full of action. After each chapter is a new problem to think of. Betrayal, romance, action, and humor are found throughout the book. In the Warriors: The Darkest Hour, Bluestar is dead and Firestar is now leader of ThunderClan and with Tigerstar leader of ShadowClan, there's going to be problems. Tigerstar has formed with RiverClan to create TigerClan. A new threat grows in the forest though, stronger than TigerClan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bloodwill rule the forest...
Bluestar has been killed, So Fireheart has become leader of Thunderclan. When he is receiving nine lives from Starclan (like heaven), Dead Bluestar tell that four will two, Tiger and lion will battle, and blood will rule the forest. Mean while Tigerstar want more power so he hires Bloodclan to attack Thunderclan. But Bloodclan kills Tigerstar and then attacks Thunderclan. There is a raging battle and you have to read the book to figure out who wins! I think it is the best of the six because it has suspense and action.

4-0 out of 5 stars To be continued...
Pike continues to wow me with this series, and I look forward to reading more of his future novels. The only thing that upsets me is that I still want him to return to his young adult storytelling...200-pages of solid, fast-paced action. The 'Alosha' series, like his adult novels, could be great if more to the point. Instead, we are settling for just "good". I have suggested a title change at Amazon.com because 'Trilogy' is wrong. Book 4 is on the way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still my favorite series.
My first thought after I finished this series was "why did I wait so long before getting my hands on these books?"
5-0 out of 5 stars True Fantasy!!
How can one describe these books?? They are some of the greatest fantasy I have ever seen (and I read a lot!).The scenes of Death...in the Old Kingdom...especially the characters of Mogget and the Disreputable Dog in _Lirael_ and _Abhorsen_ are all fantastic and imaginative.Words cannot describe it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and strong
This trilogy is satisfying and surprising in the strength of its female characters while never losing sight of a good story.Fantasy at its finest...you get parallel worlds, magic, mundanity, and misunderstanding, but not to comic effect, rather to catastrophic endings.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best and The Worst
I had a hard time deciding whether to give this five stars or one star. This is the reason. This is definately the best book of the trilogy, but I hate that it is the end! WTB must write more!
5-0 out of 5 stars Tears of Joy, Tears shed because it ended
Today, it is harder than ever to find fiction that stirs the imagination and the soul."The Final Storm" does just that. After two incredible volumes preceding it, the story finally comes to an end.Our main characters' lives and adventures are inseperably intertwined now and the fate of their lives and the kingdom of Alleble rests on them.Yet never fear, the Great King reminds us that we are "never alone!"Incredible rescues!Enchanting new races and characters.Love, revenge and redemption.Reading this story will feed your soul, enchant your mind and leave you hungering for more.Don't miss out on a trilogy that truly is destined to be a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Finale!
I wondered how all of the foregone would be resolved. Wayne Thomas Batson'sexploding imagination did it withbattles of epic proportion, creatures galore, believable characters and even a touch of heartwarming andbudding romance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well...
With Warren Ellis writing and Brandon Peterson doing the artwork, you would think this would be the perfect mini series.I did enjoy it, but it didn't leave me with a sense of awe.The very delayed Galactus trilogy finally comes to a close with Reed Richards working on an ultimate weapon to stop the Galactus threat, and Professor X working on a telepathic weapon to use.Meanwhile Captain America is left feeling powerless against this world eating foe.Ellis does a nice job with the dialog, though his unique take on Galactus and Silver Surfer may not please everyone.Peterson's artwork is a new style for him.I wasn't that pleased with the change and I hope he goes back to his old drawing ways.If you have read the first two, then of course finish it out.If you are a new reader, then start elsewhere.Plenty of time to get to this one after you have caught up with Spidey, X-Men and Fantastic 4.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Conclusion
At long last, the Ultimate Galactus saga comes to a close with Ultimate Extinction. Coming on the heels of the events in Ultimate Nightmare and Ultimate Secret, Ultimate Extinction features the Ultimates, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men working together to fend off the planet-killing force known as Gah Lak Tus. This is the colossal confrontation that the other chapters have been building towards.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as 1 and 2
If you liked the cinematic artwork of volume 1 and the characterizations in volumes 1 and 2, you may be a little disappointed in volume 3, as I was. The artwork is more stylized here (no different than ordinary Marvel comics), which was a bit of a let-down. I prefer Bryan Hitch-style realism in my Ultimate books. But even worse (IMO), the artist seems to have gone overboard on the Photoshop half toning, creating a texture that I found distracting and that seemed to overpower both the line art and the color. The writing was ok but it felt as if the characterization established in volumes 1 and 2 suffered a bit in their rush to conclude the story. Cap had almost nothing to do here, which they dealt with in a conversation about God that felt a bit forced. Xavier's effect on Galactus was well-done, as was Reed's anguish over what he had to do. And of course, the foreshadowing in volume 2 about the secret of Galactus that changes anyone who hears it couldn't possibly live up to that kind of setup (and doesn't), so prepare to be underwhelmed by that. Ultimate Silver Surfer was interesting, although I'm not sure I like what they replaced the surfboard with. It looked a bit too cumbersome and non-functional. The book is worth having if only to find out how it ends (well, it doesn't quite "end," since it leaves a big opening for more in the future) and to complete your collection, if you're into that. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars In my heart, I believe Pern is a real place.
Let me get the criticism out of the way first. Over the years, the unending franchise of Pern books has diluted the original magic of this book. After the first two series (this first trilogy, the Masterharper trilogy) and arguably Moreta's story (worth a comfortable 4 stars), McCaffery started trying to fit Pern into a scientific jigsaw puzzle so that it would "make sense." In my view, that was a major mistake, because the glory of this first book, and what made it a true classic, is the degree to which the reader contributes to the world the author created.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dragonflight
This is one of the few books that I've read that can be praised completely for writing, originality, characters, and plot. Anne McCaffrey's story is almost flawless, and it leaves you with the feeling that you've just read a completely satisfying book and you may just have to hitchhike your way to the bookstore if that's what it takes to get the next one.
2-0 out of 5 stars boring writing with good story.....
I LOVE to read. In my life, I've probably spent more time reading than sleeping, altogether. I pretty much like every book I've ever read. My friend will hate a book, I will love it, and then they will point out that I never hate books, and that I am fiercly loyal to every book I read. That said, I HATED this book. It was boring. I wanted very badly to like it, because it had a unique storyline. I couldn't get into it. I kept hoping it would get interesting. It didn't. I kept leaving the book and getting up to do something....finally, I decided to get it over with and bring this book to camp with me. A camp where you have one hour of quiet time so I could finally force myself through this book. I brought no other books with me...and I still have no idea why I decided to put myself through that kind of torture. Needless to say, I threw this book back in my suitcase, and borrowed my friend's Harry Potter and read that for the millioneth time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Magneto is back for his rematch with the Ultimate X-Men
One thing that was always impressive about the X-Men was that it was one of the few superhero comic books where the definitive villain popped up in the first issue.Of course we are talking about Magneto the Mutant Master of Magneticism. The same thing was true for "Ultimate X-Men," where Marvel essentially restarted the series in contemporary times, reconceptualizing some of the core elements. For example, this time around the original X-Men combine Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast and Iceman from the first lineup with Storm and Colossus from the second (with Wolverine being recruited from the dark side so that he can appear on every cover of the trade paperback reprints). The result is a lot of familiar items are condensed into each story arc, which is then collected into a trade paperback.5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Tale of The Ultimate Heroes
This TP collection contains the finest story arc yet for The Ultimate X-Men. Magneto is loose. The Ultimates want him after he has massacred hundreds of innocents in bridge collapse, and they figure the best way to get him is through The X-Men. Meanwhile, romantic jealousies lead to tragedy and betrayal as the Wolverine, Scott Summers , Jean Grey triangle goes over the boiling point. This series coincided with The Ultimate War, which you should read as well. Heck, read The Ultimates so you understand what this is all about. Great art, breathtaking plot twists and the great dialogue that only Mark Millar can provide. Don't miss this collection!

4-0 out of 5 stars Contains "Ultimate X-Men" issues 26-33(Not Just for Kids)
I have the hardcover "Ultimate X-Men" volumes 1 and 2 [covering issues 1-25] and the paperback, "Ultimate War".The title page includes a brief synopsis that should help you understand what's going on if you haven't read the earlier volumes. If you want a roll call, this volume includes the "ultimate" line versions of Magneto, Professor X, Dr. Moira MacTaggert, Nick Fury, Sabretooth, Multiple Man, Mastermind, Nightcrawler, Forge, the Blob, Iceman, Colossus, Storm, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Shadowcat, Rogue, and a mutant called Detonator whom I have not run across in the regular Marvel X-Men, but I'm still catching up.There's also a cameo by another mutant, but I don't want to spoil the surprise.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent fantasy for children and young teens
I am not going to compare this book to Eragon, or even Harry Potter. It is not as well written and though this first attempt is rich, it is not on the same quality level. So why did I give it five stars?Let me explain.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fablehaven WOW
I have read Harry Potter but Fablehaven beat it by far.An adventure fantasy that will play with your imagination and lead you to the unknown. Not a dull moment. An excellent read.I can't wait for book two.

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of fantasy, but Fablehaven latched it's creative hooks into me and wouldn't let go. It's a WILDLY impressive first novel! I'll be first in line for Book II. (The review would be longer, but I have a giant cow to milk.) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a toss up between 3 and 4 stars
The second book of Pellinor is about Maerad's quest to find the Treesong. Unfortunately, nobody knows what the Treesong is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Still captivating
This book continues the story of The Naming and is just as good. The story moves just a tad slower then the first, but it is sill very interesting and does not lose the reader. The relationships in the book are deepening and stress is causing everyone to grow up.The book is aptly named the riddle as the story is getting more complicated and very little is being resolved. That being said this book does not have one of those killer cliff-hanger ending that drive you crazy. In stead you be sitting on your hands because you miss the characters so much!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Riddle
Quests always seem to involve a hefty main dish of impossible riddles to unravel, with sides of identity questions, irreconcilable loss and unforeseen love. Maerad, the enigmatic heroine of this aptly titled sequel to The Naming, struggles with all of these things. Her relationships with her mentor and teacher Cadvan, Ardina, the Ice King and others play out as the background for some original, suspenseful and fascinating adventures. Maerad's evolution as a powerful mage and and as a powerful young woman was very gripping - I couldn't put the book down, and reread the ending three times! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely TERRIBLE
As I stated in a previous Star Wars book review (`Yoda: Dark Rendezvous'), gems in the literary SW Universe are scarce, sparse, few, and far in-between - this graphic novel is no exception to that rule. In a nutshell, `The Fall of the Sith Empire' sucks. Hard. For some reason, the whole prehistoric, almost Egyptianesque, civilization of an ancient Republic and advanced technology (e.g. flying starships) just didn't mesh together in my opinion. I'm not saying the suspension of disbelief in such a setting is a futile effort for a reader, but the task becomes a lot harder to envision with the uninspired art and simpleton dialogue showcased throughout this graphic novel. Aside from all of that, the story is just, well, boring: twin hyperspace explorers cruise the galaxy, one of them gets kidnapped by a Sith, the Sith lord uses the other twin to infiltrate the Republic, and then the Jedi help defend the Republic against the Sith Empire. Same ole, same ole.
3-0 out of 5 stars O.K. visuals, story a little lacking
This TBP is the second in the Tales of the Jedi story, if you are going chronologically in star wars time. It takes place a 1,000 years before the original Tales of the Jedi, and takes place a week or so after "Golden Age of the Sith". Out of the "TOTJ" series, it is one of the worst, but still better than most of the TBP's out there. I reccommend it for people trying to complete their TOTJ collection, not for a stand-alone read.

1-0 out of 5 stars pitifully bad
don't waste your time. i just read through all the tales of the jedi books and this one is by far the worst, and is horribly bad. i know you might get it because you, like i did, want to read them all...but trust me you'll only be wasting time and money on this one it's that bad. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than Vol. 1
I was disappointed in the first volume of the revisionist X-Men but I hoped for improvement in the 2nd volume. If anything the second year's worth of stories was worse than the first.
4-0 out of 5 stars Just plain good X-reading!!!!!!!!
I have enjoyed the Ultimate X-Men title as a reader of the Graphic Novels only. I started with the first two books in paperback form, but after this edition of books 3 and 4 in Hardcover I wouldnt buy or recommend anything else! In fact, if I could I would buy the first Hardcover edition of the series.
