5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Loved It
I loved this book. It was a great read. Tiria finds the two injured birds, Brantalis and Pandion. She also has a few visions of Martin, who tells her to sail for Green Isle. This lets Tiria go on her adventures while the Abbeybeasts unpuzzle the riddles. It also speeds the plot up a lot. Tiria finds Cuthbert, and sails to Salamandastron. There she picks up 30 more hares, her regalia, and sails to Green Isle. There the book comes to an excellent conclusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond
Young Tiria Wildlough is an ottermaid touched with destiny: she journeys from Redwall Abbey to an isle where she must fulfill an ancient prophecy to gain her inheritance, and face a wildcat chieftain and his catguard slave masters. Her involvement in an otterclan battle will change her world in this latest Redwall saga for fantasy readers in middle school, high school and beyond.
5-0 out of 5 stars An aquired taste
With Redwall, my experience is that you get into it early, or not at all. I first was introduced to the world of Mossflower when I was eight, and I have never left it. Now I am a teenager, and when I try to get my friends to read it, they call it childish and trite. I realize that the plots do aquire a certain sameness over the course of the series, but I find that incredibly comforting. I know that one or two good beasts will die, but the good guys will win, and the bad guys will get their tails kicked in an extremely satisfying manner. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Often compared to Tolkien's Middle-earth or Lewis's Narnia, Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea is a stunning fantasy world that grabs quickly at our hearts, pulling us deeply into its imaginary realms. Four books (Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful novel of a wonderful series
I read the Earthsea Trilogy as an adolescent. I remember loving it, although the experience was, even then, very different for me. I was a fan of C.S. Lewis, Tolkein, Lloyd Alexander. But Leguin felt really differrent. Part of this was that the novel was more intellectual in focus, more about what lies at the heart of her characters and less about overt action, heroics. I remembering being surprised that the plot moved so quickly away from the obvious. In this novel the hero, Ged, very early on makes terrible mistakes. Instead of being brave and untarnished, he's afraid and for some time runs away from the evil he's unleashed. This is not obvious fantasy fare. It doesn't fit the formula, and for that I loved it. Adolescence was, for me, a time of much uncertainty and doubt and sometimes outright fear. I really connected with Ged and appreciated being able to read about a troubled, damaged hero who wasn't always perfect. Also, I did note that LeGuin is careful to describe her character's racial diversity. This is a world of brown and black people, with a few paler ones living at the margins of society. I think people often miss this, but I didn't then.
2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
So often it seems like an adequate book is well loved just because it appears in an "unusual" genre. If this book was about anything but wizards, it would be considered mildly entertaining, but not much else. I found it neither very intellectually stimulating, nor focused around an incredible plot. Of course, people can like what they like, but I feel like this book was a real let down.

3-0 out of 5 stars "There was not much work to be got out of Duny."
While not as detailed or as ornate as THE LORD OF THE RINGS, LeGuin's Earthsea Cycle is considered among the finest of the Sword and Sorcery classics. A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA is the first book in the Cycle.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent read, not great
I want to love Artemis Fowl, and it's original enough, but it's just not terribly clever. There are some silly jokes and word plays (L.E.P. is where "leprechaun" came from), but not great.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mastermind Criminal vs. Magic
This book is awesome. It's about a young criminal (rich) mastermind who's hoping too become much richer. He kidnaps a farie, after reading of their gold, and holds her for ransom. I liked this book because the character faces difficult puzzles, but always manages to find an answer, however crude. This hilarious book is a mystery, a comedy, and a fantasy all rolled into one convenient paperback.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you want just one X-Men comic
I'm old enough to remember when there was just one X-Men comic, which made following that universe fairly simple. Today, I don't have the patience (or the funds) to follow all of the various titles, but I can enjoy one series without all of the others, and this is it. I also have no interest in heading to the comic book store once a week, so this collection makes things easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Back to the past
I am an old collector of the X-men since the days of Claremont and Cockrum. I actually pulled from the old spinner racks all the issues of Claremont/Byrne and I actually read X-Men 135 during my social studies class in high school. Why do I mention any of this? It's because the Astonishing X-Men made me feel like I did when I read those books before. These are excellent books and definitely worth the investment and time.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
All I can say is that this is one amazing series!I did not read these issues in Trade Paper Back format, but I did read the individual issues and I just had to recommend them. This is one of the best comic books you are ever going to read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pictures Are Worth A 1000 Words

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Beginning to Series
Ten year old Charlie Bone discovers he has a unique talent - he can hear the thoughts of people in photographs. Charlie's Grandmother Bone and her sisters are delighted that Charlie has inherited powers, the gift runs in the family and his late father also was one of the "endowed". They insist that Charlie attend Bloor's Academy where he can further develop his powers. Charlie reluctantly goes and soon realizes there are odd things going on at Bloor's. Before he quite knows exactly what is going on, Charlie is deep in a mystery involving a case with something mysterious inside it and a missing child and also discovers his father may not be dead after all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wickedly Funny

5-0 out of 5 stars Paul Dini and Alex Ross combined: The Audience is sure to win.
Actually, this edition is more a 7 and a half stars worth of material. The writing, which is both accesible to children as to adults, tells the very human stories of legendary DC Universe heroes like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman among others trying to make the world a better place in their own respective ways.
5-0 out of 5 stars infallible
based on the strength of the Kingdom Come graphic novel illustrated gorgeously by Alex Ross, I picked up this gem of story-telling. The chapters contained within the book are treasures of narrative that will keep one's attention without any trouble at all. I am a fan of the X-Men from 'that other Comic Book company'. But I get too caught up in the megalomania of those stories that I realized how much I saw that superheroes dealing with common criminals and situations are as much, if not more, compelling.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just Gorgeous
This book reprints 6 special comics and does them justice. Alex Ross's art not only looks great, but tells the story well. The pretty pictures do not get in the way of the story. The book is smaller size than the originals, which were the size of the old LIFE magazine, but the art is not impaired in the least and the production values are top of the line. What makes the book worth having, though, are not the pretty pictures but the stories.Paul Dini writes stories which make each of the characters examine themselves, bringing us along in a thoroughly entertaining manner. He makes them very human, complemented by the art which is very lifelike (Ross uses human models.)The Batman story is the best, the Justice League story the weakest, although that is a relative judgement since it is a pretty good story. At the time the stories were first published, I had wished that the 5th volume would be a Plastic Man story and still feel that would have been a better way to go, but such was not to be. Regardless, this book will remind you why we love superheroes. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed.
I enjoyed Dick's short stories and was expecting the same quality from those in this book, i.e. an engaging plot and interesting characters. Scenes play out tediously with characters and their mind chatter ceaselessly flowing (to a point where it becomes annoying) with bits and pieces of information and occasional dialogue that tries to move whatever plot there is along. There were numerous characters none of which were very interesting or that one could attach affection to. It got to a point three quarters of the way in that I said to myself "Who really cares what happens?"
4-0 out of 5 stars First Rate Fiction
Dick is the master of the sleight of hand, defying reality with his novels and short stories.Plus, like all great sci fi, or speculative fiction, he creates a "real" world with "real" people and yet somehow makes the reader keep turning those pages.A great read, by a great story-teller.

4-0 out of 5 stars extraordinary book but quite depressing reading...
I had known this book for quite a long time before finally buying and reading it.So I was aware of its basics.

1-0 out of 5 stars No No No
I am a huge fan of this series, and this really was disappointing. The writing bit was decent, but the illustrations didn't meet my standards whatsoever. i was thoroughly disappointed with a few of the drawings as they didn't even follow the author's descriptions. It was irritating reading a book in a series I enjoy immensly that was so dismal.

2-0 out of 5 stars A cool idea, but it could have been much better.
I picked this up in a bookstore the other day.I had almost purchased it once, but I am now very glad that I didn't.I looked at the pics. and they were pretty good. (although I do really prefer to view characters and scenes in my own head) I preceded to read the text, which I finished reading in about ten minutes!I'd say that this book was a really cool idea, but for a price around $7, I don't think that this is worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome artwork
this book brings to life everything i imagined when reading the first several books. i know many people complained about this book not covering all of the territories. i am kind of glad it hasn't covered the books that have not yet been written. i would prefer to use my own imagination first. i believe there will be a follow-up to this book when the rest of the series is written. ... This brilliantly ironic satire is set in a future world where televisionand computers are connected directly into people's brains when they are babies. The result is a chillingly recognizable consumer society where empty-headed kidsare driven by fashion and shopping and the avid pursuit of sillyentertainment--even on trips to Mars and the moon--and by constant customizedmurmurs in their brains of encouragement to buy, buy, buy. 2-0 out of 5 stars No nuances, everything is over the top.
This book can't find it's niche. Even though it is commonly classified as a "teen" bood, the language in the book is as bad as "Scarface" or "Pulp Fiction", with the "f-bomb" being as common an expression for these teens as "awesome" was for teens in the 80's or "cool" in the 70's. This could be excused if the characters were interesting, but the characters on sit-coms are more interesting than the supporting characters. The supporting characters throughout the entire book are wooden props for the author to make social commentary, and after a while it feels like one is being beat over the head by it.
3-0 out of 5 stars After reading "Feed" I feel full.
Titus lives in a future time when a technology called "the feed" attaches right into your brain and gives him the ability to send email, chat, watch TV, order merchandise, and listen to the radio all at once.Everyone gets "the feed" installed when they're babies, and it helps them to know what's cool and where to shop for their favorite things.
5-0 out of 5 stars An influential book that I will never forget.
In Feed, a satirical and tragic science fiction novel, M.T. Anderson takes readers to what is hopefully a distant future. This future is one in which people have computer chips, known as the feed, implanted into their heads that connect them to each other, entertainment, and streams of messages that tell the chip's hosts what the latest trends are.Titus is a young man in this future; he and his friends are like most people their age. They party, they watch the feed, the listen to the feed, they are dictated by the feed; their lives are safe, routine, as is expected when it is the norm to be the same as everyone else, until Titus and his friends meet an abstruse, young girl named Violet on their vacation to the moon.Violet is bent upon shaking the system upon which Titus and his friends, among countless other teenage carbon copies, are so accustomed to, so when Titus and Violet develop a budding romance, tragic events are sure to ensue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - Book One
Have you ever wandered what happened to the Greek gods and their children? This book will explain it all. This book called the Lightning Thief, shows every angle of what happened to Percy (who got kicked out of hiss boarding school), Annabeth, and Grover to find Zeus's Lightning Bolt that someone stole. I would recommend this book to people who like Greek mythology and has special powers (for example Percy has a water power. He has a special ability to breathe in the water).

Percy is going to bi kicked out of boarding school again, but that is not his trouble. The trouble is that mythological monsters and the gods of mount Olympus are coming into his life. And the worst of all Zeus the king of the gods is blaming Percy for the theft of his master bolt.

3-0 out of 5 stars Artwork's Better, Story's Okay, But Overall: Still Lacking
This out of print and ultra-rare graphic novel, 'Tales of the Jedi: Redemption', is in my opinion a step forward from the previous 'Tales of the Jedi' (TOTJ from here on) storylines/graphic novels in terms of artwork. Actually, a step forward is incorrect: the artwork has progressed by leaps and bounds! However, as is usual with Star Wars, the storyline is the same ol', same ol' with little to offer readers and newcomers (although SW nuts and fanatics would eat this up, or anything George Lucas does for that matter).
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book and a fitting end to a great series!
This interesting book is the final book in the Knights of the Old Republic series. The series is a collection of graphic novels that takes the reader to the Old Republic, thousands of years before the events of The Phantom Menace.
2-0 out of 5 stars good art
this features the best looking art in the tales of the jedi dark horse books, but like the others the story isn't really that great. blah ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stories, poor drawings
This book seems to be aimed at younger readings; at least, I think this due to the childish nature of the artwork. It is the kind of drawing often cluttering up bad books for kids. That's too bad, as it may give readers the idea that these stories are juvenile when they are not.I would note, too, that the artist seems not to have read the stories very well, as characters often look far too young or too old.
5-0 out of 5 stars What a great read!
This is a great book for someone who has read the original series and wants some extra background... I've also used it to get friends interested in the original series.Check it out!

3-0 out of 5 stars First Meeting of Jane
For me, the only truly memorable story from the entire collection is the last one where Ender meets Jane, the AI introduced in Speaker for the Dead.(And I know Jane is more than just an AI but it's too hard to explain unless you've read the books.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Excrement
This is a positively terrible book. The artwork is by no means up to the standards of the first three books. I would not waste my money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate War
Here we have two new Marvel creations meeting and fighting: The Ultimate X-Men and the Ultimates. The art is back up to par in this book. The story still as strong as the previous books. Even this far along they've kept it fresh. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
Easily ranks up among other great series like Narnia, Potter and His Dark Materials, this series just didn't get the exposure. Fabulous. I read these as a child (80's) and purchased them to read again now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Kids Books EVER
