2-0 out of 5 stars The hobbit
I didnt really enjoy this book because it was hard for me to understand. I understood the characters and i could picture what they looked liked because it has good discription, but other than that the rest of the book didn't grab my intrest. The biggest reason I didn't like this book was probably because it wasn't real, like how the hobbits lived under ground. After reading this book I relized that i'm just not into fantasy stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of these books
The story of a simple man on a long journey, I enjoyed every page and have read it again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars There and Back Again
I know that over a thousand people have reviewed this wonderful book but I felt so strongly about The Hobbit that I just had to say sonething about it. The Hobbit was and still is a masterpiece, and will remain a masterpiece for centuries to come. One of the main reasons why is that its prose and style of writing is absolutely captivating. It has a simple and delightful charm to it that makes you want to keep on reading. Its plot is also a treat. It is not boring or stale, as I've heard others say, but lively. Also, with this book, there are many coicidences and connections among characters (so what if Bilbo didn't kill Smaug? Think about it. Could a little hobbit really kill a dragon twenty times his size, despite his cunning and discreetness? I don't think so). Best of all, though, it has a sweet message and theme that can actually leave you pondering about it for hours. I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I have to admit that, in my opinion, The Hobbit is better, despite the Trilogy's genius. What can I say? It's an excellent read, and definetly worth your time. The only thing you'll regret is that it will go by too fast. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Nine-year-old Tiffany Aching needs magic--fast! Her sticky little brother Wentworth has been spirited away by the evil Queen of faerie, and it’s up to her to get him back safely. Having already decided to grow up to be a witch, now all Tiffany has to do is find her power. But she quickly learns that it’s not all black cats and broomsticks. According to her witchy mentor Miss Tick, "Witches don’t use magic unless they really have to...We do other things. A witch pays attention to everything that’s going on...A witch uses her head...A witch always has a piece of string!" Luckily, besides her trusty string, Tiffany’s also got the Nac Mac Feegles, or the Wee Free Men on her side. Small, blue, and heavily tattooed, the Feegles love nothing more than a good fight except maybe a drop of strong drink! Tiffany, heavily armed with an iron skillet, the feisty Feegles, and a talking toad on loan from Miss Tick, is a formidable adversary. But the Queen has a few tricks of her own, most of them deadly. Tiffany and the Feegles might get more than they bargained for on the flip side of Faerie!Prolific fantasy author Terry Pratchett has served up another delicious helping of his famed Discworld fare. The not-quite-teen set will delight in the Feegles’ spicy, irreverent dialogue and Tiffany’s salty determination. Novices to Pratchett’s prose will find much to like here, and quickly go back to devour the rest of his Discworld offerings. Scrumptiously recommended. (Ages 10 to 14) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Discworld
I've decided he's too good and too prolific for me to write a brand new review every single time I read one of his books. Discworld currently has 34 titles and every one of them will probably knock your socks off. His mind bubbles and flashes like a boiling pot of electric eels, and I simply can't get enough of his writing.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the hype...
This was certainly no Harry Potter. It was a cute little story, mind you, but I don't think it was as fabulous as the reviews lead you to believe.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, well exceeded my expectations
While the story starts out rather conventionally, the wee free men are a wonder, and the world you are drawn into is far more interesting, delightful and sophisticated than I expected.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Eternity Code
John Spiro, a very wealthy and successful business man, and Artemis Fowl, a boy genius who is trying to keep the Fowl wealth up, meet in a seafood restaurant because Artemis has called with a proposition. Artemis and Butler, his manservant, are waiting at the restaurant when Spiro and his bodyguard, Arno Blunt, arrive. Artemis had created a cube that was a micro T.V., verbally controlled computer, mobile phone, and a diagnostic aid. Artemis won't sell the C cube to Spiro, but will keep it off the market for a year if Spiro will pay him. Spiro doesn't want to pay, steals the C cube, and abruptly leaves. Arno and the restaurant "staff," hired by Spiro are left to fight Artemis and Butler. Artemis manages to escape, but Butler is badly wounded with a bullet shot half an inch below his heart. Artemis must figure out a way to get help to Butler. The People, underground fairies and elves, play a part in restoring Butler back to life. He's alive, but a lot different.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Eternity Code
In the third installment of the Artemis Fowl series the boy wonder decides to do one last "business" deal because he thinks that the recovery of his father and his new outlook on life will soon prevent him from committing his scandalous heists. He takes the stolen fairy technology he got from his first encounter with the fairy people and makes a computer that is decades ahead of what is currently on the human market. He proposes a deal with a very powerful business owner named John Spiro. The deal was that Artemis would allow Johnny boy to buy some shares of the soon to be opened Fowl Enterprises but John wants that box of cash for himself. A gun battle occurs and John runs out with the cube and in the process john's bodyguard gives Butler a fatal wound. After some quick thinking on Artemis' part he is able to save his dear friend's life. He then plots revenge against Mr. Spiro with the help of some very familiar friends from the fairy community. This book is kind of intriguing. There is some good plot development and the dialogue was top notch. There is a lot of character development in this book and this series as well. There are some things that concern me however. The book is too easy, sure there may be two hundred some pages but a child could read it in a day max. Some places were kind of repetitive and had the same thinks in the previous editions. This book I consider is one of his good ones. There are some that I have to say need some work. I personally like his writing style. It has this directness to it that doesn't wander so much even though that might be a deterining factor as to the length on the book. I do not think that Eoin Colfer is a bad writer. I just think that he has time to refine his writing style and I personally would enjoy some constructive criticism now and then.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Installment
In the "Eternity Code" Artemis Fowl starts off with a bang (literally) when a supercomptuer (The C-Cube) he built out of fairy helmet components is stolen by Jon Spiro, a ruthless buisinessman, and his bodyguard Arno Blunt. Butler is mortally wounded, and the faries underground city of Haven is in danger of exposure. So, Artemis tricks a LEPrecon agent, none other than Captian Holly Short, into coming aboveground to heal Butler. That is the summary of the first few chapters. Not many faries actually take a large part in the story except for Holly and Mulch Diggums. Foaly only comes in near the end and he's only on the comlink, so I don't know if that's an 'appearance' or not. Anyhow, the seemingly grim book is humorous at times. I loved when Artemis scared the waitress (must read to appreciate), Mulch's attempt at driving, and the scene when Pex and Chips try to 'bury Mulch deep'. The ending was kind of depressing, and I wondered if this was the end of the series, but I read it when book 4 wasn't even an internet rumor yet, although newcomers have the benifit of not having to wait 2 years (or however long it took) for the next one. Read the first two though, or you will be EXTREMELY confused. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Fowl:the arctic incident
Artemis Fowl is set on an estate outside the city of Dublin, Ireland and in Arctic Russia. At the beginning of the book, it is made clear that Artemis' beliefs that his father, Artemis Fowl Senior, a wealthy Irish crime lord, was alive, is correct. When his ship, the Fowl Star, sank in his attempt to bring 250,000 cans of soda to the Russians, Artemis Fowl Sr. was found alive and has been held prisoner for the past two years by the Russian Mafia. At the beginning, the Mafia has decided that it is time to negotiate a ransom for Artemis Senior. The price is very high and the deal is under a timelimit. This would not be a problem except just as Artemis is ready to get going; he is kidnapped by "The People" a race of fairies living underground. It seems that members of the goblin's secret organization, B'wa Kell, have been found with human sources. Since goblins are basically idiots, it becomes clear that someone not remotely related to a goblin is operating the fiendish scheme. Artemis is immediately blamed and is taken prisoner by Holly Short (Holly Short, a captain of the LEPrecon (Lower Elemental Police Reconnaissance) an elite force trained in dealing with the "Mud People" (humans) along with his trusty bodyguard, Butler. After it becomes clear that Artemis is innocent, they are recruited to locate and demolish the goblins connection in exchange for their services in gaining the release of Artemis Senior. Working under enormous time pressure, their task is accomplished, but when Holly and her superior Commander Root, set out to fulfill their part of the bargain, a takeover occurs underground in the land of "the People." Foaly, the tech expert, who is also a centaur, is accused of heading up the revolution. Holly, Julius, Foaly, Artemis Jr., and Butler race against time to save The People from an evil dictator and save the life of Artemis Senior.
5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident Pleases Both Listener And Reader
After listening to a public library audiobook copy of the first Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl), my children and I were eager to see if there were other books available in the series. We learned that our library did not have subsequent copies, so I hurried to Amazon to see what I could find. We've now purchased and listened to "Artemis Fowl - The Arctic Incident" and have donated it to our public library so others may share in the story. Not only is each book in the series wonderfully written, with fully crafted, believable characters - insofar as fairy-tale characters can be believable - but the audiobook is narrated by one of the most skillful readers I've ever heard.Nathaniel Parker, also the narrator for the first book, is back with his fantastic portrayals of our favorite characters. This book has all the necessary ingredients for enjoyment:comedy, adventure, fantasy - all played out through witty and engaging dialog between easily distinguishable characters. The author, Eoin Colfer, must have been a Monty Python fan too, because some of the lines uttered as asides by a couple of his characters could just as likely have been said by one of the Flying Circus troupe. My family highly recommends this book, in either printed or audio form. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle... To Good To Be True?
I have been reading the Drizzt centered Salvatore books for several years now, and while I have really enjoyed them, I always longed for something a little less cavalier or noble. I didn't always relate to him because of his strong moral beliefs. That said the series did introduce me to a character I was instantly captivated by Artemis Entreri. When I found out that Salvatore had finally written a book about him and had put him with Jarlaxle I had to read it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Servant of the Shard - A Review
If you are tired of reading about the exploits of Drizzt Do'Urden, suffer no more. R.A. Salvatore's new series The Sellswords is exciting and fun. The main characters Artemis Entreri and Jaraxle are well done. Overall the book is great and lends itself to be read quite well. Not many cliches found on this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Eat it up like Hotcakes
R.A. Salvatore brings another hot book to the shelves with Servant of the Shard. This fantasy novel would intrigue any and all fantasy readers with its immense room for imagination of creatures and characters. Each time I sat down to read I became encased in a web that this book spins so effectively.Layers of intrigue, deceit, and backstabbing kept me flipping these pages like hotcakes.Artemis Entreri and Jaraxle are two very "evil" people, but they just don't seem to fall on my bad side.Artemis became this very complicated character just below the surface of his calm.Jaraxle and Artemis become a duo that rivals Batman and Robin, just they aren't so goody good. They keep more tricks up their sleeves than Batman holds in his utility belt, especially Jaraxle.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Completes
When I first reviewed The Giver years ago, I loved it.Until I got to the end.It felt woefully incomplete. It wasn't simply that the reader was required to imagine possibilities. It felt like the author hadn't finished showing us her theme. Now she has with this sequel, and I only wish I could go back to increase the stars on The Giver, for the sequel has pulled up that book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Entertaining and a great value
I love this set.The performers are superb, and are clearly having fun with the reading, the text is unabridged, and there is a complete lack of chessy effects or background sound track, with the exception of segway music at the beginning and end of each CD, which I personally find very a very nice prompt to switch CDs. Even the questionable nod to femminism by including Lynn Redgrave as a reader for "Prince Caspian" does not diminish the production or entertainment value one iota. They presented in a different order from the original book series publication, but that was no matter to me: I simply listen to them in the coreect sequence.I am perfectly content to hear how it all began later rather than sooner.

4-0 out of 5 stars What A Wonderful World It Is
The Chronicles of Narnia - the audios were really quite good. They are each done by different actors.Kenneth Branagh, who I know from Harry Potter's Chamber of Secrets, did well with the story telling of the first book "The Magician's Nephew".All the other actors were wonderful as well. But the best, to me, was Patrick Stewart, in "The Last Battle". What a performance. He caught my attention. So very dramatic, very passionate and funny!Overall, I enjoyed it.And to me, it's almost up there with Harry Potter's audio, and Lord of the Rings audio with Ian Holmes, playing the role of Frodo. If you want to buy it go for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Interesting Story
This book is what I've come to expect from Shannon Hale: good story, good characters, good writing, and a good ending.I've loved the previous books in this series The Goose Girl and Enna Burning and was not let down by this story.Rizo is a great character who undergoes a lot of changes as he discovers himself in this book.My favorite part of Shannon Hale's books is that they are prefect faire tales without being overly fantastical or magical. There is just a sprinkle of magic and good common sense. While I think her previous book would be good for boys and girls this book is the first with a male lead and may bring her books to the attention of more young men.Overall, I think this is a great story for both kids and adults.I highly recommend it, but if your new to the series you may want to start at the beging so nothing is given away.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still good, But not Shannon's best
River secrets was very good, about Razo, who you may remember if you read the other bayern books. This is still a good book, but i suggest you read the others first. Enna Burning is the best and The goose girl is also good, but river secrets is no where as good as those.

5-0 out of 5 stars River Secrets
Shannon Hale is the perfect author; her writing is funny, exciting, suspenseful, and original.

5-0 out of 5 stars Returning to Neverland
For this return to Neverland
5-0 out of 5 stars Fits the original like a hand in a glove.
Geraldine McCaughrean's "Peter Pan in Scarlet" is different from all other additions to the Peter Pan mythos in that it reads like an extention of the original story instead of a fanfiction. There is a comforting feel to reading this book, like the feeling of coming home.It was definately a treat to read after having read the original novel.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fly Peter, Fly!!!!Wonderful!
Geraldine McCaughrean has created a fantastic sequal for all of us who believe in NeverLand! In this wonderful follow-up to Peter Pan, we are taken back to Neverland, where there is great adventure waiting Peter and his crew of familiar and unfamiliar cast. However, Neverland is a bit darker and more dangerous than what Peter first experienced, and the challanges he faces is much more than what he expects! From one adventure to another, readers of all sorts will completely cherish this wonderful book that picks up in rythem and beat from the initial story about the young boy who never wanted to grow up.I can simply say that the world at large has waited for THIS book written by THIS author.Ms. McCaughrean has done an amazing job in creating a sequeal that is as much a continuation as it is a new adventure.Peter Pan in Scarlet is a must read for every person who reads.Take flight and let your imagination soar . . . and fly with Peter Pan! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars a bit disappointed
I have loved everything I have read by Atwater-Rhodes in the past, which is just about everything she has ever written.Unfortunately, I found this book a bit wanting. She did have a great twist on the story, and I am not talking about the romance part, that was pretty obvious.More along the line of the magic. What didn't do it for me was the herione.I found her lacking. She just didn't seem worthy of all that worship, friendship, and love she received from every living soul she encounter.Atwater-Rhodes gave no reason for this blind faith in this character.Just what made her so special?
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book (INCLUDES SPOILERS)
SPOILER ALERT
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Quenched My Thrist For More Interesting Shapeshifters to Read About!
I have read all of Amelia's books - Snakecharm, then Hawksong being my favorites. Falcondance dissapointed me only because I got one little taste of the characters I was REALLY interested in - Sive, Salem, and especially Oliza - before I was whisked off to Ahnmik with Nicias, whose character I found less interesting than the others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!
Who can create a better character than R.A. Salvatore? According to the fantasy books I own.......no one! The longest, best, most-known character in fantasy books! If you're looking for a good fantasy book to read you can do no better than to pick up one of Salvatore's Drizzt books.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Second Book
The series got even better.A flawless connection to the first book. Intense fighting, amazing no-way out situations-kept me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait to see what the third book has in store.

1-0 out of 5 stars A very disappointing read...
I have read many of Salvatore's books over the years and I must say that this book is the worst that I have read.As many reviewers have mentioned, there is very little plot or character development. Many of the battle sequences seem overly ridiculous (Gutbuster brigade charges orc defensive post, easily overwhelming while taking few, if any, losses) or repetitive (reading about orcs assaulting dwarf lines loses its appeal after 15 times).Surprising, since the plot is virtually nonexistent, there seems to be so many plot holes that you, as Schwarzenegger would say, "could drive a hummer through it".

5-0 out of 5 stars A Magical Book
This is a beautiful book! Despite being aimed at children it truly puts life in perspective and is relevant to people of all ages; I loved it. This is the best book you can buy for a child and so beautifully illustrated! Should be part of the syllabus in all schools.

4-0 out of 5 stars Keeps you Wanting more but wanting better.
This book kept you wanting more to the end. It just made you see and picture everything as it went along but it seemed to planned and too played out to when you got to the end your.. kinda not wanting to see the next book to it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Music?
Kissing Coffins is a entertaining read and a real page turner. It takes you into your own underworld of goths and vampires. You begin to fall for memorable characters like Alexander. The imitation of brands like Hello Batty and Hot Gothics is quite funny. The only negative thing about this book is the name dropping of some bands. I understand that Evanescence can be seen as a goth band to the casual listener but Good Charlotte? Everyone knows they are a bunch of punk poser wannabes. A real goth woudn't be caught dead listening to them, no pun intended. Anyway, it is a good read for any fan of young adult vampire novels if you don't mind vampire stereotyping...

4-0 out of 5 stars Kissing Coffins Indeed
I started reading Kissing Coffins as soon as I was done reading Vampire Kisses. It starts where the first book ends. Raven, the outcast goth girl, finds that her love, Alexander, has apperently vanished. She finds his family's mansion packed up and empty.

1-0 out of 5 stars WARNING!!!Horrible Book
This book was Salvatore at his worst.Do not buy it. It was really boring until the end and then all Drizzt does is fight a few frost giants. After this Drizzt goes into a berserk rage that lasts for another whole book because he thought that Bruenor died. This attempt to build up tension turns Drizzt into a bloodthirsty instinctive monster for another whole book. All he thinks about is kill orcs, kill orcs, kill orcs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!!!
R.A. Salvatore's writing is fantastic. The multidimesional depth of his characters is amazing. It is a wonderful first book to a triology I can't wait to read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Beginning to a New Series
Salvatore has lost it.
