Why there are these different reviews
I had this book in freshman yr. as well as the geometry book that follows in sophmore yr of high school. In my own classes i often found that the people whom said bad things about the book such as those in the following reviews are the people who either did not pay attention in class, or did not care about the subject enough to put the effort to try to understand the matter. On the other hand, some of the concepts were a little advanced, but my teachers usually explained them in a way we could understand.If the student is doing their job as well as the teachers there shouldn't be a problem with this book. I would strongly recommend it.

BEST BOOK EVER
Don't listen to what the other people are saying. I got first hand experience on this book. I must say that this is probably the best and most easy to understand math book i have ever used. The answer key in the back allows the user to assure that their answers are correct. If you are considering buying this book, i must say YES, DEFINATELY BUY THIS BOOK, IT WILL BE WORTH YOUR WHILE!!!!

Amazing Book for the Inquisitive.
This was one of my favorite books as a child, and is a great deal of the reason why I have such an interest in science.The explanations are well written for anyone to understand, and the diagrams really help the reader understand the science better.If you, like me, take things apart to find out how they work, this is the book for you.

I had to use this book for a UW Independent Learing course because I failed the geometry course offered at my school. It is a great book for talented student that are planning to take more advanced math courses.
This is the Absolute Best Book Available in America Today
This book is extremely well thought out. The problems range from very accessible to very challenging. The book is thorough and teaches Geometry in the way that it should be taught, with a rich mathematical foundation and many opportunities for students of all abilities to learn to think criticlly. The Teachers' resource materials are excellent. There are two sets of tests, one more accessible and one more challenging. The Reteaching and Practice resource is an excellent source of class work handouts. To me this book is just as fine as the Algebra 1 book from the same series.To the best of my knowledge, this is the best book currently available in the United States. Far better than most others
This is a well thought out Algebra textbook.I started teaching from it earlier this year and have grown to appreciate it very much.I am especially pleased the more I compare this to other books.Most math books these days are little more than pretty colors, crazy fonts, neat pictures, lots of distractions, and very little actual math instruction.This book, on the other hand, actually focuses on the math, explains it reasonably well, and has great sets of real example problems and practice problems of all difficulty levels, including lots of practical problems that aren't forced or contrived.It is not perfect, but it is the best I have seen.
Excellent book for students
This is a pretty good comprehensive textbook for students of all levels. There are twelve chapters in the book, plus a glossary, various helpful appendices, and an index. The book contains "A" (easy), "B" (intermediate), and "C" (challenging( problem sets for every topic covered. Also, enrichment topics are included, including "Extra," "Challenge," "Historical Note," "Application," and "Career."

Good In Some Ways; Weak In Others
Our school uses this book for all Geometry classes. The book is quite thorough, but serves the teacher more than the students. The students for the most part don't read it; just use it to find the assigned homework problems.
Weak Explanations and Fails to Challenge Even the Average High School Student
As a long time mathematics tutor and teacher I know this book very well. I don't think the material is presented or explained in a way that is especially helpful for young people. As a tutor I have to constantly reintroduce the topic and/or try to stay ahead of the student's class. Beyond that, the students are asked to do only the simplest of proofs. Additionally, a new topic will be introduced and then no problems appear in the exercise portion of the section to help the student test and practice his or her understanding of the newly introduced topic (and of course, those problems invariably will show up on the chapter exam and the final).

Awesome Algebraic Resource
This is simply a must have for any student or homeschooling parent today.Basically, it's the dictionary of the mathematic world.It's simple, concise, and indispensable.It's full of easy to find formulas, without all the mess to confuse you.If you're stuck on algebra, this is the book for you.

Not as inexpensive as you would think
I shopped around a lot before I purchased this book from a used book dealer.I needed more than one, so I had to shop around.I ended up buying more than a few.These books are in excellent shape, no highlighting, no writing in the books, and fantastic bindings.The base price was less than most of the prices in the Amazon listing.Even the publisher's price for a NEW book was less than most of the listings in Amazon.I find it sad that folks are selling books with higher prices than the publisher is charging for a new one.

Not bad
The real trouble with Algebra and Precalculus is that many of the topics are interchangable.This book does a fairly good job of covering many different topics.I wish some of the examples were a little better, but there a lot of solutions and answers in the back for the many problems at the end of a section.I think ideally, an Algebra II course should be very skill based, focused on "solving for x" in various situations.A little more concrete and a little less analytical.A precalculus course should be focused more on functions and function analysis.Also it should include trigonometry and topics typically covered in a calculus course (without differentiation or integration) such as polar coordinates, parametrics, and vectors.

Algebra 2 textbook
I purchased the book with the intention of teaching myself all the core material in it. The material offers readers a limited number of examples per chapter per section. While these examples may sometimes make you wish for added detail, ultimately there is enough explanation to pull the reader through. Be sure you understand the previous chapter before moving onto the next or you will most likely get lost. In the end I was very satisfied with my order. Very frustrating
I am a first year Ph.D. student, and I find this book quite frustrating to read. The reading drags on and on, and I can't really remember what I read. The examples in the book are somewhat helpful, but they do not seem to fully explain the concepts very well. I hope the next edition will have a more comprehensive explanations for the concepts in the book.

Cram101 should be Scam101
This book consists entirely of glossary entries on the even pages and blank note pages as the odd pages. The glossary entries appear to have been automatically computer-generated for the big words in the text, as the definitions tend to be standard dictionary definitions without consideration of any of the rich context of the Shadish et al. textbook. Many of the glossary terms are medical terms such as clinical depression, chemotherapy, spinal cord, phenylketonuria, etc., which demonstrates the mindless compilation of this outline.

Very informative.......
but very boring too!Actually, that's not completely true, it's just the first few chapters that are excruciatingly boring, but once you get past all the introductory material, it's quite informative.I'm reading this right now for my graduate course in experimental design, so I most likely found the first few chapters as boring as I did because I already knew the stuff.Although some pictures would be nice, and I'm talking about more than just the illustrations that they use to...uh... "illustrate" different experimental designs, it's nice that there's not a bunch of fluff to sort through looking for the information that is actually important.It's a well written and pretty easy to comprehend must have for those of in the wacky world of experimental studies. ...
