5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for my "smarty pants"
My 10-year-old son is definately a math "smarty pants" and when this book arrived I just left it sitting around to see if he would "discover" it and and boy did he!It's full of fun math games and activities and he dove into it for hours; not bad for a lazy summer day activity.I highly recommend it for your "smarty pants" or even your not-so-smarty-pants if he or she is willing to play in the realm of numbers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Content BUT
This book contains a number of engaging math and logic problems, something that we do a lot of.Unfortunately, the print is small, the pages are quite crowded and answers are often extremely hard to find, all of which really limits the book's usefulness both in our math program and as a "just for fun" book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book ROCKS!
I don't care what anyone else says. This book is great. I'm 10 and I didn't think it was too hard or anything. I think younger kids might be confused, but I LOVE it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great 7th Grade Math Workbook!
I picked up this workbook as supplemental material because someone on a homeschooling website recommended it.Well, I've wound up depending upon it as my primary 7th grade math book (leaving my Saxon Math books almost untouched).Great, clear exercises, and plenty of 'em!(Though if you're an adult who's brushing up on your own math while helping your children, you may need to rely on a text to explain exactly why the authors are choosing to solve problems the way they are....i.e., there are always alternative methods to solving equations, and I've been sure to explain to my son that there are several ways to arrive at the same answer, a key point in understanding decimals, fractions & percents.)Please, Spectrum, continue past 8th grade!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great homeschool workbook.
The lessons are easy to understand. They are broken down into very simple, logical steps. My 11 year old is teaching himself these concepts with little assistance from parents. The tear out pages make it easy for kidsand parents on the go. Read more

Great mix of robots in this book--some "standard" variations on familiar prototypes (using UBS parts) and some pretty out there ones as well that I would have never thought of. Excellent book. 1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL!!!
The worst math book ever written. The explanations are terrible and overall the book is way below par.Don't ever buy this book, you'll regret it just like I do.It's a waste of $80.Please teachers, don't teach your kids using this book.Sorry Heath, your book SUCKS!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Go away!
This book sucks. Period. I repeat, IT IS HORRIBLE! I have found so many grammar errors, and even MATH ERRORS. If they're supposed to be teaching us the stuff, how can they get it wrong? Also, this is aimed at like 15 year olds, maybe they shouldn't have it worded like it was a college textbook. On top of all that, they explain things in the most confusing way possible, and usually don't explain it enough. I hate this book, it sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks! I advise you, do not get it. You'll be sorry.

1-0 out of 5 stars i dont like geometry

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for home school
I home school and used this book to get ready for middle school math.It is pretty easy to understand the explanations. It also has many practice problems of all kinds.I recommend this book to any one who wants to learn math.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book of mathematics
I use this book in school for my G/T classes. I am saying four stars because it includes loads and loads of examples, and real life problems which is a highly helpful. The only promblem was it only attempted to explain some of the topics thouroughly. In short, it is an excellentt review of 7th grade math no matter what age level you are, and also an excellent study tool if you only understand it partially.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent GT Math Book!
This book uses pratical applications and is mainly for middle school. I currently use it in 5th grade GT Math. I have used the course 1 book last year in GT. This book focuses on everything you are going to need to know for a couple years if in 5th grade. The book uses examples to explain. It also uses about 2 or 3 paragraphs of in depth writing explaining the chapter. Following that, it would guide you through the step by step process. This series is great for teachers and students alike. I could reccomend Mc-Graw Hill to anyone, especially this specific book even if you are falling behind and have to catch up. Overall for learning, chose Mc-Graw Hill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lord God, what a book!
At the risk of sounding blasphemous let me simply say "Lord God, what a book!" This book belongs on your MUST READ list!
5-0 out of 5 stars Engrossing Non-fiction
I picked this book up based on recommendations from online reader groups who said it would read more like fiction than non-fiction.They were right!Hoose has meticulously researched the plight of the "Lord God Bird", the ivory-billed woodpecker, documenting the efforts to locate the dwindling population and the sad effects of man vs. nature.Well highlighted by photographs, we follow the loss of this magnificent creature as its habitat is swallowed up by man's greed in the first half of the twentieth century.Hoose's writing is vivid and engrossing and caused me to do that rarest of things---go online and research more for myself. Most interesting of all is that just after this book was published, there have been reports of the rediscovery of the ivory-bill!This is a wonderful book appropriate for people of all ages and especially those who are worried about the endangerment of species by mankind's shortsightedness.Recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Lord God Bird
I thought that this book was well written, reasearched, and thought through. But as a 12 year old I didn't enjoy it quite as much as i think an older person would. I think that the author wrote the stories well, and made them very drawing. This book was not one of my favorite books, partially because it was very hard to read. The other reason was beause to me it was a bit confusing. I could see him doing a kids version of the same book, but making it a bit simpler or shorter. I thought that the author did a great job in writing this book, but I think you should wait to read it until you are a bit older. Some people I know thought it was a great book, but they're older than me. So again I thought that this was an o.k. book, but not a great kid's read. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good supplement for anyone learning basic computer programming
This is a pretty good introduction to basic undergraduate ideas in computer science including different number systems (hex, binary), computing structures (components, architecture), and the concept of program layout and algorithms. This book does not go deep into these concepts, but at least it makes the student aware that these issues exist and gives a very brief idea of how they work. In other words, don't expect any in-depth examination of computational complexity in the section on algorithms. The lion's share of the book is dedicated to simple programming concepts. First the ideas of variables, constants, operators, operator precedence, and input/output are introduced. Then these concepts are used to examine the constructs of control structures, functions, subroutines, arrays, strings, files, and data structures. There is a very basic chapter on object oriented programming that includes the advantages of object orientation as well as an introduction to terminology and program structure. Simple programs are shown as examples and also given as exercises in four popular languages - C, C++, Visual Basic, and Java.
4-0 out of 5 stars overview of 4 popular languages
This book is unique in that it is both low-priced and provides an overview of four popular languages- C, C++, Java and VisualBasic (I couldn't find anything on Pascal and Fortran, unlike what the Publisher's reviewimplies). It is sometimes heavy going and or lacks detail in places, andwill need to be supplemented by other books and courses. Still, it'sgoodvalue for the price. ... Read more
