4-0 out of 5 stars DXF
The details are good, but the conversion from the Author's Mac-Based PowerCADD to AutoCAD are not that great. It assigns polylines to most every object with a global thickness.I found the DXF easier to work with. The user will have to explode the detail into the more primative objects in order to customize the detail. Finally, the software allows you to review the detail before pulling it up in your CAD software, however, it doesn't work UNLESS you move the details to the root drive. For example: I installed under the default directory C:\Program Files\Architectural Details.I matched the path in the detail program to where they were located on my drive and it did not work. The only way I could get it to work was by moving the DETAILS folder to the root drive- C:\Details.Once I did this and changed the path, it called up the details in the CADD program fine. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Nature of Science and Evolution
Anyone arguing about science and using the words "proven," "hoax," "proof," have NO idea what Science actually IS, let alone religious faith. THERE IS NO "PROOF" INVOLVED IN SCIENCE. The concept of proof is limited to the court and legal systems as well as to Geometry class proofs,a class which I doubt many of the naysayers actually took when they were in High School.
4-0 out of 5 stars Challenging... yet inviting
Of Physical Science books I have yet to find one superior to this. The text is thorough enough to be challenging yet inviting to the student.Regardless of your religious beliefs I would highly recommend this text. Our local Christian school uses this text and skips over the evolution part.Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. It's such a shame.Another plus for this series is the support materials offered to supplement the text. There are skill sheets, lab sheets, CDroms, test booklets, a plethora of choices.Great for home schoolers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful
This book is really nice to read, learn and easy to get the idea for adult and for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars She loves math now!
My 9 year old had always loved math but this year we moved and neither of us liked the math curriculum the new school used. She began hating math! We began homeschool (there were other problems too) BUT she continued fighting with the math work.I purchased this book and after only 4 lessons she's hooked on math again! She loves the tricks and VOLUNTARILY makes up her own problems to solve! She's already seeing how the "tricks" help her in her "normal" math work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for math teachers!!!
I plan on using this book to enhance my students mental math abilities. This book is a great way to do the mental math and focus on that higherorder thinking. This book is organized well, and is well-suited forclassroom use. There were many tricks that I didn't even know existed andeverything is still based on basic math. This can work from the slowest tothe most advanced learner. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Epitome of What is Wrong in Math Education
Math books in Japan and Singapore are short, inexpensive, and to the point. Math books in American often look like this monstrocity: long, expensive and rambling. For example we learn about the history of jeans, we learn that Mae Jemison was the first African-American woman to go into space, and that in 1974, Beverly Johnson, the first black model on the cover of a major fashion magazine. In other words, this book tries very hard to hide the fact that is math book by introducing glossy photos, color pictures, and a litany facts TOTALLY UNRELATED TO MATH. Unfortunately, the students will eventually find out this is a math textbook, so introducing all of that fluff is a wasted effort.
1-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the worst Math Book ever "Written"
In my home state of Tennessee, this is the text that unsuspecting school kids must decipher. It should have been easy - it's structure (and I use the term loosely) broadly resembles MTV with its numerous subjects per page, chats about unrelated subjects, some of the worst use of the English language ever and a colorful, multi-font, in-your-face appearance. There's pictures and graphs and arrows and charts and big text and small text and cartoons...Yet it cannot be understood much less absorbed - at least by anyone looking for something rational.
1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrid! Avoid like the plague!
I am taking an honors level geometry course at my high school, and this, unfortunately, is the text that we have been given. It's absolutely rubbish. The lessons don't really teach the concepts, they just show some examples, which are hard to comprehend without actually knowing the topic that they're trying to teach/demonstrate/show-off/whatever. Furthermore, the problems at the end of the lessons/chapters clearly assume knowledge beyond the scope of what was taught in the book (leaving holes for the teacher to fill in, I suppose). This book is bad, really bad, and I cannot stress this point enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth every penny
We found this book at our local library and after renewing itmany times purchased our own copy. This book is simply wonderful. It introduces both kids and adults to the constellations through stories, quizes, and scientific information. There are star charts for each season that show you the stars as you would see them outside. On the facing page you then see the connected constellations. This book is really a great treat.

3-0 out of 5 stars Did you got a new (first ) telescope?
Excellent for kids and very easy for inexpert.
5-0 out of 5 stars a true classic!
This book has brought my children and I, all casually amateur astronomers, endless hours of joy picking out constellations in our backyard. One of my son's favorite gifts was a tie-in poster I got him for his birthday with the stars and constellations from the night he was born - If you can track one of these down, i'd highly recommend it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A book without many faults
Despite what Don Snyder says in his review, I've found the book to be well-written and informative for the most part. Geometry has always been and still is my favorite element of math and I enjoyed taking my high school course with this textbook. Thanks to one of the teachers at my alma mater I now have a copy of this book that was left in the computer lab.
1-0 out of 5 stars An example of how NOT to teach math!
Postulates, theorems, constructions: it seems that the authors do not know the difference. In this book postulates are presented as statements of fact, and used to "Prove" theorems. In chapter one, the Pythagorean Theorem is used in proofs BEFORE it is, itself proven.5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best introductory level geometry book out there!
I used this book in my highschool Geometry class after using another popular Geometry textbook at another school. This book is the best one for students of all abilities - each lesson centers around a different aspect of a uniting theme (Chapter 1 - Circles, etc) using photographs, graphs, activities and simple, but thorough explanations. After easily helping you master the basics, each lesson then includes an advanced section for more able students which explores the subject more deeply. The best book out there! I recommend any math book from this publisher! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for adult self-study
My goal is to master the algebra that I found so troublesome as a junior high student. As an adult self-learner, I recommend this book highly. Although the illustrations and writing style are pitched at a 12 to 17 year old, I found the information presented clearly and in an easy-to-understand format. For example, the importance of the Pythagorean Theorem is emphasized and then beautifully reinforced with numerous sample problems, worked-out in great detail. Also, the treatment of "completing the square" is the best I have yet encountered. Finally, the author's philosophy of education coincides with my own, namely: difficult material can and should be presented simply as opposed to the all too frequent, presenting simple concepts in an absurdly convoluted and impossible to comprehend manner. ...
