5-0 out of 5 stars A fundamental book for climbers
When I first started climbing one year ago, I expected to find an extensive body of literature related to the science of climbing; instead, I found a surprising lack of such material, perhaps because the sport itself is relatively young.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book
I recommend this book to any teenager or adult. It is generally a good book that teaches good morals. There are many conflicts and solutions in this book that make it fun to read simply because of the way the characters have different ways of handling them. You could also say that it is somewhat educational, as the author really knows what he's talking about when it comes to rafting. This reinforces the story and makes it more interesting than if the author didn't know anything about it. For example, "Well that's a matter of opinion. One reason people really enjoy paddle boats is because they're directly involved with the rafting. They help control where the raft goes. The success of the trip depends on each paddler doing his or her best. It's more of a personal challenge." Many people should like this book since it doesn't really have any boring spots like other books do. Itproves to be a really a very fun book to read. For example there are some obnoxious things that the characters do to each other during the story, which can prove to be quite funny. "Hey Scotty, wake up!", "Get off me" Scott shouted to his brother. Also, you will be very surprised with the outcome of the story at the end of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absoluting Moving!!
Great book! It, too me, was by far S.L. Rottman's best books that I have read so far!Scott was lost and confused and seemed unwanted by both his Uncle and his brother Gregg but he finds himself and love at the end. This is a powerful novel and the ending will take you for a loop.I love this book and the S.L. Rottman for writing it.This is a MUST READ!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rough Waters Review
I read Rough Waters; it is an ok book, but not the best that I have read.I would highly recommend this book to any one that enjoys adventure. The book starts out with the main characters, Scott and his older brother Gregg; have to move to Colorado to live with an uncle they never new they had.Their uncle owns his own rafting company on the Arkansas River. At first life is a little rough because they are still trying to get over their parents death. As it goes most things get better in life, this story gets better for the most part.Scott is left out by his brother because he is a lot younger than Gregg. One day during the summer Scott goes exploring in the back yard.He finds an old bike in a shed.Scott decides to go into town on the rickety old bike.In town he goes to the library because he is kind of a bookworm. At the library he meets a girl!!That is all I'm going to tell you about the book.If it sounds interesting to you, read it.I liked it; it takes a really good book to do that because I don't ever read. This is a really good book, ~ENJOY~!!!!!!!! ... Editorial Review

Time passes, and it's impossible to call a time-out in the middle of life. Travis Cody learns many of these lessons on the football field, head-to-head against the competition. Is he a winner or a loser? A single play could change the whole texture of his life--or could it? In his brilliant debut novel, Thomas Cochran takes us out on the gridiron and inside the mind of Travis Cody, a high-school senior preparing for the most important game of his life. With the whole town of Oil Camp watching his performance on the field, Travis may find the courage to learn an even bigger lesson: defining the truth is more important than simply facing it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Roughnecks
Thomas Cochran's novel Roughnecks is a story about a long tradition of football greatness in Oil Camp, Louisiana. It goes through the daily game day routine of the main character Travis Cody, who is the starting center and defensive tackle. He has a tough task in the 1AA state championship trying to handle the all-state nose guard, Jericho Grooms. He goes through many rituals and events like he does on every game day. The state championship is on a Saturday so his usual schedule is a little out of whack because he has to try to fit in working at the gas station. He still does his best to keep his schedule as similar as he can by wearing the same double cotton turtleneck to asking Beep for a comb at the pep rally.

3-0 out of 5 stars skull crack book review
In the book Skullcrack by Ben Bo it showed that no matter what nothing can come in the way of family not even a hurricane.5-0 out of 5 stars Skullcrack: A Excellent Realistic Fiction Novel
Skullcrack is a short novel about a teenage boy living in Ireland named Jonah. His father is an agressive alcoholic. Jonah loves to surf off a small inlet called Craxkull Point. There he starts seeing stange images ofa girl in the swirling mists of the cove. I found this book interesting andfun to read because I like setting and the suspense. The ends of most ofthechapters leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. This also makesyou want to read more. The text contains a group of "demons"commenting on some of the current happenings. Even though his dad is aheavy drinker, he cares deeply about his son and suprises him by buying twotickets to America. What adventures will Jonah find in the US? Read thisbook, Skullcrack to find out. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book!!!
Chan Kim is a kid who loves soccer, and his life. But when they move into a tiny town called Minnesota then his whole life changes. His family is the only Asian family in Minnesota. When Chan meets Allpro after the first couple of days at school he is talked into joining the football team as a kicker. He ends up joining soccer because there isn't soccer in Minnesota. He was planning on just being a field goal kicker but his coach said it was a rule to have more than one position so he became a running back. Chan had to have the necessary roughness to become a football player. Which he learned on his first practice. On his first practice Chan had an okay practice, but at the end of the practice the team had to do sprints until somebody vomits. Then a few weeks later his first season started. Although Chan didn't get a chance to play his first game it was made up to him by him kicking the winning field goal in the second game of the season which led to him being a starting kicker for the rest of the season. Then after the season they found out that they made it to the playoffs; where Chan leads his team to the championships but if you want to find out if they win the championship then you'll have to read the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars outstanding book
Necessary Roughness was an outstanding book! This book was and is the best book I have read! This book is about two teenage kids who go by the name of Chan Kim and young kim. They are twins who don't get along with they're father, well Chan doesn't. They start off living in L.A., California! Chans uncle Bong was in Minnesota where he owned a store. Bong got the money from the store from Abogee which is Chans father. Abogee always gave Bong money which he always loses. So Bong leaves to Korea and the kim family moves to Iron River, Minnesota to take over Froggys (Bongs store). When they get to Minnesota, its full of white people and they are the only Korean family. They move on the second floor of some nice old lady's house because they don't have enough money to purchase they're own house. Of course some discrimination begins to happen! Chan and his sister Young go to Iron River high school and of course they are the only koreans! Chan eventually gets invited to try out for the football team by his soon to be best friend Mikko! Chan tries out for kicker but he plays other positions as well. In Los Angeles Chan played soccer and Young was part of an orchestra. Chan makes the team and Young decides to be in the school band. There was good detail when the football games were being explained but I feel Marie G. Lee could have given a little more detail about the football games for football fans. Back to the story, well Chan finds a girl by the name of Rainey. He began talking to Rainey at a party the football players had after one of the games. Eventually Young begins to talk to Mikko! Also there I s a guy on the football team thano one likes his name is Rome, he does some pretty mean things to Chan and others! Then towards the end a something tragic happen in Chans life! You have read the story to find that one out, it will surprise you. I recommend this book for football fans. Also for anyone who is part of a minority because it shows what the kim family which is a minority goes through!

I have used this book for three years now as a teacher of Spanish. My students of Spanish 3 and I read a few stories every year as part of a day of reading that we do every week the second half of the year. The students enjoy the stories because they are similar to their own experiences with school, family, and social events.I enjoy using this book every year.

4-0 out of 5 stars una excelente coleccin chicana de cuentos adolescentes
... Read more

I read Grind by Eric Walters. I liked the book because it had a lot of exciting parts. I especially liked the part when Phillip jumped over the security car that came really close to almost hitting him. Another cool part is when Wally fell on the rail that he was grinding on his board. He fell off and he had to go to the hospital with a broken leg.

I couldn't put it down. I literally read it cover to cover in less than a day. It was an honest look into her life that was absoltely brilliant. It's the best book I've read in a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars very true to life, a must read
This is a wonderful book.It may be a bit deep for some people (judging from one of the reviews), but go ahead and jump right in as long as you're not afraid to think outside of the box.I have been a female athlete since I was 8 years old, and totally understood everything Heywood writes about.Performing... the drive to make a name for yourself... the way life can seem to get out of control when you're trying so hard to control it... this book is very true to life.I really think any parent of a hard-core athlete should read this; it just might help them understand where their daughter is coming from.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent story about one girl's need to be #1.
I suggest every father or mother who has a young girl interested in sports read this book.It is apparent everyone can take something away from Leslie's mistakes and triumphs. She has written a clear, captivating anddisturbing memior. It is truly an eye opener and a page turner. Leslie,"Keep on Rocking in a Free World." ... Read more
