1-0 out of 5 stars busy, wordy and uninspiring
I got this book for my foster teens but tossed it in the recycling bin instead. The book is full of chatter; the authors never get to the point.Plus all the illustrations, boxes and fonts, which I guess are supposed to be hip, give you a headache. I did plog through this quagmire long enough to confirm the authors weren't saying anything that would inspire a kid, so it's just as well they slathered it with window dressing. The book dies have a catchy cover, which I assume is designed to attract parents, not kids.Heck, I bought it.

4-0 out of 5 stars bit much for my 12 year old
My 12 year old got bored with it, she's probably too young for this book.I am hoping she will pick it up in a year or so. I thought it was interesting and usefull.

4-0 out of 5 stars The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective TEENS
This book: The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective TEENS, included many wonderful/helpful ideas, wich i used and enjoyed on my own. This book is what i call a guidance book. That helps in my eyes young teens who have problems in highly effective areas. This book basically shows you how to develope good habbits, it makes you become a better person, working on your personality and bad habits. the author gave you his fathers seven habbits to success in all parts of life. The author Sean Covey, put it in a fun and easy way to understand the point of this wonderful book. This book was actually a slight help to both me and my mother. I learned to work things out with her, and agree on things easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars **TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.
5-0 out of 5 stars shut up!
well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

4-0 out of 5 stars What About Multi-Talented Teens?
It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself.I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!)There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for everyone!
This book was very inspiring, and informative on many matters in the life of teens. I thought this book was great and not only had fun reading it, but I also learned from it. I learned mistakes of other people, and many great lessons of life. While some stories were sad, others were cute, and happy. There are a wide variety of different stories that all contribute to the overall greatness of the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting for all
I really enjoyed reading this book being a teenager myself. It was very inspirational and touching. It is a good book for teenagers in any situation. I think it would be good for parents to read this book also because they could have a better understanding of what their teenager might be going through. This book talked about issues that are harder to talk about. It provides anonymous help lines for teenagers in need. The tops range from life to death. It is a very uplifting book for all.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! This book was soo amazing, I couldn't stop reading it! This book made me realize that I should be greatful to have such a awesome life and there are others out there that have hard times. To all those people who wrote there stories in the book I'm inspired by what they had to go through. All teens will love it but I have to warn you there are many sad parts and are very powerful so I think you should think about it first. If you're sure you want to buy it well go, you won't be dissapionted!

This is a nice little book full of quotes for girls, women too. The cover says these quotes are "Empowering and inspirational" and I found that to be true. There are quotes here from women from all walks of life, like Rosanne Cash, Jane Bryant Quinn, Janis Joplin, to name a few, and there are even quotes by some people you've never even heard of, like Debbie Tsai, age fifteen who says, and I quote, "Life is like a bus: you can get on it and go somewhere, or you can just sit there and watch it pass you by." I for one am getting on the bus, you should too. And you should get this little book for the girl in you or the girl in your life. ... Read more

My motivational book is Teens Can Make it Happen, by Stedman Graham. The book is to tell people how to use their life meaningful and not to waste it. This book really wants the reader to think about what goals and accomplishments you want to achieve. This book is a turn around because it really helps you know what you need to do to get your life on the right track. In Teens Can Make it Happen there are 9 steps that you take to knowing and achieving your goals. People should read this book because it will inspire them to reach their goals according what to what they want to do for the rest of their life. This is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars YES TEENS HAVE CHOICES!
I liked this book because the author clearly respects the teens he is addressing. Too often these days references to teens are negative.Or teens life plans are pigeon-holed by an author's implicit assumption that "What do you want to be when you grow up?" has only one answer. From my coaching practice, I have seen that many teens are Renaissance Souls (people who have too many interests to pick just one.) To limit advice to how to pick the one right career path or college or job is to leave them hanging and frustrated. Fortunately Graham's advice does not fall into that trap.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I am a high school English teacher and I found the book to be very helpful and motivational for high school students who need to be pointed in the right direction. So many kids need to have a vision and clear goals for themselves and this book helps to guide them in the right direction as well as making the proper choices. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A really good book =)
This book is really helpful, and I highly recomend it. It covers everything from being worried to prayer to salvation. It has three or more scriptures (example: for fear, these are thescriptures: Psalm 23:4, 1 John 4:18, Psalm 19:11, Hebrews 13:6, and 2 Timothy 1:7) for each subject (over 70 subjects) and a page about it, followed by a prayer. And hey, even the cover looks cool =D

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul llis a great book written by teenagers and some adults about life. It teaches us about life and how to deal with it. 4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup For the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal School
After reading this book, I found all of the stories included in this compilation very touching. I liked how each short story aimed to teach a little life lesson. The inspiration that these stories carried along with them made me realize how much this book was worth reading. I also enjoyed reading the quizzes and tidbits of information on various topics. The only complaint I would have against this book would be the authors' anecdotes from their own lives. They attempted to relate to teens, but fell short when it came to accuracy. It has been a while since they have been teenagers, and many things have changed in high school. Not only that, but their stories proved to be a bit dull. Other than that, I really did enjoy reading this book, and I look forward to reading other books in this series.

3-0 out of 5 stars Amanda's Review of Chicken Soup for the Teen's Soul on Love & Friendship
I like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and I liked this one in particular because it was written for teens. It was, I believe, the first one I read for teens, and I enjoyed reading very much what other teens had to say. On the other hand, though, many of the stories are similar, so after I had read a few, they got a little bit reptitious. Overall, though, it was a good book.

This book is a very good and interesting book to read. It has a lot of personal stories in it that help other people who are going through the same problems understand that they are not alone. The book covered many different topics and I think that's what made it so good. The different topics were; Falling In Love, Breaking Up, Friendship, Tough Times, Family And Love, Acts Of Kindness, and Growing Up. All these things are very critical to a teenager and this is what they all go through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspired
The book Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul Three really inspired me in many different ways. When I started reading this book I couldnt put it down for a second without wanting to pick it up again. This book has ben very helpful and useful to me. The book talks about real problems and stories that teens have sent to the publishers and published in their book. It's nice to have us young people writing stories and having them published for others to read them and be inspired. When ever you get the chance you should read this book so you can see what's so great and inspiring about his book.

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest book ever!!
This book was totally awesome and I advise people to read it. It was one of the best books I have ever read and it gave me alot of advice through the very interesting stories they provided. This book was my favorite out of the "chicken noodle soup for the teenage soul" series. I really enjoyed reading it, for me it was one of those books that are so good you can't put it down. I really recommend this book if you like real life situations where you can really seem to realate to at least some of the stories. It feels like you have been in these sort of situations before and the stories kind of put you in the other person's shoes. This book made me feel sorry or happy for the main people in these stories and they made me think about my life and if I am hurting people or I made them feel the way some of the characters do. Long story short I really loved this book it had romance, tragedy, horror, suspense, and well... you get the idea, but it made me love it and I am sure if you read it you will feel the same as I did about this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars worth it for finger paints and crayons
This book overall was not as good as the first two but it's worth it for the piece called "Finger Paints and Crayons" a beautifull written poem about how sad it is to live in a world with racism. That one touched me the most, I haven't read the book in years but that poem is one of the things I remember about it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT READ THIS FALSE NEW AGE BOOK, CHRISTIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matthew 7:15 says, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."Such is author Neale D. Walsch in "Conversations with God" and "Conversations with God for teens."The one and only Jehovah-God, Father of Jesus the Christ, has told us everything we need to know in His Holy, Infallible, Inerrant and Inspiring Word, the Bible.First of all, Walsch says there is no such thing as sin ("There is no such thing as right or wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone", he writes).WRONG PER GOD!!!(John 3:16)Next, he says homosexuality is a "genetic trait" and should be "celebrated."WRONG PER GOD!!!!(Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13)These two items alone should demonstrate to any reasonable person that Walsch IS NOT RELIGIOUS AND IS NOT CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4-0 out of 5 stars How life could be
Firstly, this is not a religious book; it's a spiritual self-help book in the form of real or imagined conversations with God (you pick). It's important to remember that this is how the author perceives things and we can choose to agree or disagree, it's all about free will. Our views don't have to match the author's, if that was the case we'd still be living in the dark ages and never learn anything new. Secondly, I'd like to ask the parents who refuse to let their teens read this book 'cause of the "immoral" chapter on sex, don't you think your sons and daughters are smart enough to think for themselves and make up their own minds?
2-0 out of 5 stars Consider this!!
To anyone who has or is planning on reading this book, consider this. This book has a lot of words which feel good and can make anyone's guilty conscience ease in thinking that "your own will is god's own will." (quoted from Walsh's books) If you will it, then God wills it because he loves you and wants you to live in freedom, right? Will is a precursor to action. If there is no such this an a 'right' or 'wrong' will, then in essence there is really no such thing as a 'right' or 'wrong' action. If someone else's actions hurt you, you feel that action is wrong. But the person who hurt you certainly had his feelings for acting that way, right? It was his will, therefore he was justified and right and god's right there to back him up. The victim is suffering. Where is his god when he needs him? Was the victim correct in believing the action wrong? Was the perpetrator correct in believing his action was right? In this book, god says that WE have the authority to decide what is right or wrong. The action is both right and wrong, right? Wrong.

4-0 out of 5 stars Theologically accurate; Practically insightful; Fantastic for teaching; but Excessive in application
The best resource I've found for spiritual gift study so far.
5-0 out of 5 stars My choice for spiritual gifts work with churches
As a church consultant, I am often asked to recommend spiritual gift surveys and resources for churches. In fact, we routinely ask staff members to fill out gift surveys as part of the consulting process. This book--and the corresponding survey available separately--are the tools I have chosen to use in my work.
2-0 out of 5 stars Built on a flawed foundation
I applaud the Fortunes for doing a great job of encouraging people to discover and develop their spiritual gifts. Many of their tidbits and applications are very helpful and motivating. However, I have a problem with some of their foundational assumptions.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this!
Hey. I am a 13-year-old girl, and my sister who is 23 bought me this book. I have read and marked multiple pages for future reading. This book has really increased my outlook on life! I suffer from depression and anxiety, yet I feel so happy when I read this book each night. I believe that even adults would be enthralled with this book. So my conclusion is that if you have [have the money] or whatever, get this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Only for Those With Prior Knowledge
As someone who is not Christian and only knows the basics of the New Testement (and doesn't know the difference between any of the gospels), I came into Marked with a lot of expectations. Having read about it in Newsweek, I expected the story of an outsider and to learn about a religion I don't know about. The book is without a doubt meant for Christians. No background is given on the characters, we're supposed to know that Jesus is who he is, that Simon is Simon, and the land is corrupt. I was left confused and slightly frustrated at several moments. Also, a lot of the drama just wasn't there for me. Since this is an adaptation, I guess the reader is supposed to be waiting for certain moments. It just didn't work for me.
3-0 out of 5 stars Marked
As an author who has tackled Gospel translation into the graphic novel format, I commend Steve Ross on a heart-felt effort to bring the book of Mark to life with a contempory feel. It's not an easy task by any means. But Marked is slightly problematic in a couple areas. One, if it was designed to be used as an outreach to the unchurched, I felt like the narrative was not very easy to follow, (if you were not "very" familiar with the work it was based upon, I.E. the Gospel of Mark, and in some places even if you were)! It was the same kind of feeling I had when I first saw the movie, 2001.Secondly, the artwork I would say drifts more toward abstraction in many parts of the story, more than solid storytelling...which is fine and works wonderfully in soome parts of the book, but leaves the reader wondering too much in others, (what the heck just happened there?).
5-0 out of 5 stars A FRESH VISION OF THE GOSPEL OF MARK: RECOMMENDED
With my newly revived interest in old and new, well-done comic books-slash-graphic novels (think ASTONISHING X-MEN, think SANDMAN, think WATCHMEN, think SUPREME POWERS),I had to rush here to amazon.com for a copy of MARKED. I first saw it featured at novelist Chris Well's nifty blog. This re-imagination of the gospel of Mark sounded like something I should "taste and see."
