5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Christians
I've been a Christian for years and have always felt that something was "missing" from the American church.Rob Bell's insights have helped my faith feel more real than ever before. This is much better than the religion I've been sold my whole life.I enjoyed the fact that I didn't necessarily agree with everything in the book and that was okay - I was challenged to think some things through.Read this book.Let me say it one more time: read this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Base for Jumping Off Into "Real" Christian Faith
Before reviewing the content, I think it is important to note that the covers of the paperback copies I've seen of this all seem to scratch easily. So if you care about the aesthetics of the book, pay the few extra dollars and get the hardback. That being said, here it is:
2-0 out of 5 stars Hard to know what to make of it
American pastor Rob Bell is a leader in the Emerging Church movement, and this book seeks to apply the principles of postmodernism to the contemporary church. The result is a mixed bag. Much of the book is simply a call to love Jesus more, to rediscover the wonder and mystery of the faith. As such, it is just another book on Christian living, and cannot really be faulted. But it is the over-reliance on the postmodernist framework that is cause for concern.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tool to inspire and guide the Catholic community through the moral and pastoral challenges that confront the Church today
Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church was published to serve as a tool to inspire and guide the Catholic community through the moral and pastoral challenges that confront the Church today. The informed and informative text is organized into specific sections dedicated to revealing God's plan of love for humanity; the family as the vital nucleus of society; the relationship between social doctrines and ecclesial actions; and the fundamentals required for developing and maintaining a "civilization of love". Enhanced with extensive "Index of References" and an "Analytical Index", Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church is an appropriate and strongly recommended addition to personal and clerical reference collections, seminary and academic library reference shelves, and supplemental reading for pastors and active laity within the Catholic communities throughout the country.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Truthful, Necessary Teaching
Be warned that this amazing work is not a page-turning history of this often-neglected and rich history of Catholic Social Teaching. It reads like a John Paul II encyclical, in both its circular, thorough, hypnotic approach to the many aspects of the teaching as well as the sense one gets that one is witnessing transcendent Truth.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Short of a Masterpiece!
If one is seeking a blueprint, a framework, and a synthesis on putting the Catholic faith 'into practice', 'into action', one will find these qualities in this Compendium. Each sentence carries meaning and there are no unimportant words in this Compendium. It is concise, yet treats each topic with erudite precision. It is inspirational and hopeful! This Compendium makes one ponder deeply about the Catholic faith. It absolutely challenges both the mind and heart of the Catholic religious and lay faithful and exhorts the heart and mind to nobler causes outside of oneself and exhorts us to build a civilization of love, a culture of life. This Compendium, coupled with the previously published Catechism of the Catholic Church, will, in the judgement of history, be considered two classical works, that is, masterpieces. This is a book that all Catholics, at the least, should have on their shelves. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for everyone!
This book was very inspiring, and informative on many matters in the life of teens. I thought this book was great and not only had fun reading it, but I also learned from it. I learned mistakes of other people, and many great lessons of life. While some stories were sad, others were cute, and happy. There are a wide variety of different stories that all contribute to the overall greatness of the book!

3-0 out of 5 stars "Cool Mom's" review
I am reading through Woman After God's Own Heart, which I so wanted to share with my son's girlfriend, very new and unsure of her faith, with absolutely no spiritual support from her parents. But "Woman" is very mature and deals with women more my age. I saw "Young Woman" here when I ordered another copy of "Woman" for a close friend. I'm excited about the book... I know some of these teens reviews are mixed, and one actually very harsh. I will say this to the young ladies out there... it IS possible to live purely and holy before God as a teen. I did it with peer pressure and all... I saved myself for marriage and have had a wonderful life. It was not and still is not always easy - even adults have peer pressure. My husband and I talk to our kids about EVERYTHING and don't "flowerize" anything. It is hard out there - but God requires integrity from us. Remember, Elizabeth George was a teen at one time and she raised teen daughters... the way she speaks is out of a heart of love for you and for the Kingdom of God. Philippians 4:8 says Whatever things are pure, true, just, lovely and of good report with VIRTUE and PRAISE - think on THOSE things. When I read the book with my daughter I'll come back to give my final opinion. Blessings! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting for all
I really enjoyed reading this book being a teenager myself. It was very inspirational and touching. It is a good book for teenagers in any situation. I think it would be good for parents to read this book also because they could have a better understanding of what their teenager might be going through. This book talked about issues that are harder to talk about. It provides anonymous help lines for teenagers in need. The tops range from life to death. It is a very uplifting book for all.

WOW! This book was soo amazing, I couldn't stop reading it! This book made me realize that I should be greatful to have such a awesome life and there are others out there that have hard times. All teens will love it but I have to warn you there are many sad parts and are very powerful so I think you should think about it first. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great First Communion present
We have given this as a First Communion gift for two of our children now and both have enjoyed it enough to want to read it.There are interesting call-out sections that especially appeal to kids. We've looked for youth Bibles for some time and haven't found anything as nice as this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bible for Episcopalians/Anglicans, too.
My confirmation class which includes youth and adults went wild over this Bible - lots of good questions and reflections in an engaging format... suggestions on how to "pray it" and "live it."When it comes to the "Catholic Connections", our class talks about ways in which our denomination views things similarly or differently - all leading to good discussion.

In his book, Wired: For a Life of Worship, dynamic author and speaker Louie Giglio offers teens a fresh look at a lifestyle of worship. Today's youth are searching for meaning, and they want to grow spiritually beyond the packaged church experience. Giglio believes God wants us to know Him intimately and to "live a life that's fully active, awakened to His great love."

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!
Prayer is something that really lacks in a teen's life from my experience. This book shows that it is a neccessity in life. It also shows that any problems with may deal with that God can be there to help you through it all. All you need is the connection with him through prayer. I recommend you buying this for your kid, or buying this for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a teen, and this book is very helpful.
So far, this is the most helpful book on prayer that I've read. There's many books on prayer that are very lengthly and have lots of theology. But this book is especially meant for teens about my age (13-19).I suggest this book to any Christian teen who wants to have a good prayer life and who really wants to have an intimate relationship with Jesus. The book covers pretty much everything you, as a teen, will need to pray about. For teens that just became a Christian, don't sweat it!This book is definitely for you, as well as for the teen that has been a Christian for a long time.It reviews all the types of things one should pray about to break the strongholds of the enemy so that God can work in your life and in your school and in your family too.I would suggest this book for the mature and for the immature. The strong and the weak. And for every teenage Christian that loves God.Here's a brief overview of the chapters since there isn't yet an excerpt for amazon.com:

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
You will feel the urge to keep turning the pages of this book, not just because of the incredible events of his life, but because of the humility and candor of Ravi as he shares his life story. The power of the gospel is woven through the fabric of his life and every life he touches.I began following Ravi's ministry and writings when I was 18 and have never lost interest. He has a tremendous passion to reach every mind with the gospel. Please read this book - you will be very glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Will Probably Enjoy This as Much as You Enjoy His Radio Shows. Ravi Listeners will Enjoy This Autobiography!
I really enjoy hearing Ravi Zacharias on his weekly radio show. He is probably the most intellectual of any of the radio preachers that I hear broadcast on Christian radio in my area. Ravi is from India, but he converted to Christianity as a teenager in India, and his missionary career consists of intellectually applying logic to support Biblical concepts, to audiences across the globe. That's my explanation of what he does, at least. So when I heard he had an autobiography out, I was curious enough to check it out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup For the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal School
After reading this book, I found all of the stories included in this compilation very touching. I liked how each short story aimed to teach a little life lesson. The inspiration that these stories carried along with them made me realize how much this book was worth reading. I also enjoyed reading the quizzes and tidbits of information on various topics. The only complaint I would have against this book would be the authors' anecdotes from their own lives. They attempted to relate to teens, but fell short when it came to accuracy. It has been a while since they have been teenagers, and many things have changed in high school. Not only that, but their stories proved to be a bit dull. Other than that, I really did enjoy reading this book, and I look forward to reading other books in this series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great with Devotions
I read a story a night from this book after we read devotions at the dinner table. We all love the stories. Some of the stories our sad and make you think. Some are funny like the Lesson in Lavendar story which is one of our favorites on Compassion and Forgiveness. This storyjust happened to fit right with our Devotion readings from Sticky Situations 2 another great book. The book is geared for teens but we all can relate to the stories and enjoy them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup!
I absolutely love all chicken soup books and this one was equally amazing. I thought that Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soup was very well written. The stories were very realistic and I think that anyone could relate to them. It covered everyday issues like school, family, friends, and just faith in general. In short this book is very heartwarming and can be read by most everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
ok look....justin lookadoo isn't saying that EVERY single relationship won't last.what he is saying is that there is a VERY high chance that it won't last....soooo don't do things you aren't ready to do...to keep a relationship that isn't likely to last anyways.I absolutely loved the book.I told all of my fellow teenage Christian friends that they HAVE to read it.and by the way...my school is pretty small....and the guys and girls hang out together a lot.We hear about all of their dating disasters....When girls call them first they don't really like them...they just use them. Now, I'm not saying that there aren't any exceptions but this is what normally happens. So, stop dogging Justin Lookadoo for trying to help us....
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I bought this just as a summer read, I've been dating the same girl for well over a year and can say that our relationship is truly different, we do Love each other, and so on and so forth. This book basically says its impossible to do any of this, actually if you ever want to date ever don't read this book becaues it really should be dirrected to non Christians that have no idea how to date. This book actually made me half mad becuase it was so sterotypical "girls even Christian guys just want to get in your pants"what? No wonder the world is a messed up world today. It sounds like the authors to this book had a bad relatinship in their teen years and wrote a book to discourage dating from everyone else even though they said they incourage it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Total Loser
They have some things right (i.e. that some girls are too forward in relationships with guys; that some guys only have the physical aspects of a dating relationship in mind; that the closer you are to the person you are dating, the harder it will be WHEN - and not IF - you brake up; that most marraiges between highschool graduates and under-graduates are bound for problems, etc; etc.). But it remains unclear to me what the benifits of dating as it is defined in this book actually are. Fall in love. Sprinkle the relationship with a little - but not too much! - kissing and stuff. Get bored with the relationship. Brake up . . . cry over it . . . find someone else. May I ask, to what purpose? For the pleasure of the moment? Yes. And for those with a sensitive concience, a lifetime of regret. I think dating can be a good thing if done in an appropriate way, but braking someones heart is NOT appropriate. See my review on I Kissed Dating Goodbey. ( I gave it three stars .) ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Amanda's Review of Chicken Soup for the Teen's Soul on Love & Friendship
I like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and I liked this one in particular because it was written for teens. It was, I believe, the first one I read for teens, and I enjoyed reading very much what other teens had to say. On the other hand, though, many of the stories are similar, so after I had read a few, they got a little bit reptitious. Overall, though, it was a good book.

This book is a very good and interesting book to read. It has a lot of personal stories in it that help other people who are going through the same problems understand that they are not alone. The book covered many different topics and I think that's what made it so good. The different topics were; Falling In Love, Breaking Up, Friendship, Tough Times, Family And Love, Acts Of Kindness, and Growing Up. All these things are very critical to a teenager and this is what they all go through.

4-0 out of 5 stars Help for parents and Teens
Sexy Girls: How Hot is Too Hot? by Hayley Dimarco with Bible quotations throughout is written for the Christian teenage girl, and every parent of one will be so happy it has been written in down-to-earth teen language by a young woman who is good-looking and very successful and has BEEN THERE, so she understands what is going on with girl's and women's fashions of today. She explains how what a girl wears screams to the world how she is marketing herself! She explains in plain language what showing flesh in certain areas does to the males that see it. "They are turned on by what they see...Showing off more than you are willing to give is what we call false advertising."Dimarco discusses how males react and what they expect from the way girls dress; what tatoos, belly button rings, tongue piercings, cleavage, and low-rise pants and high-rise underwear of today's fashion scream to men, and how girls, because they have no testerone on the rampage, are clueless of what their attire is saying about them. The book offers excellent self analysis of wardrobe and self-concept and great suggestions of how to put together a look that is complimentary and stylish and gives the real ideas of who you are. The book is an EXCELLENT and much needed guide through the minefield of today's popularity for teenage girls, as well as adult females!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for any girl needing a crash course in modesty
"Sexy Girls: How How Is Too Hot?" was just what my husband and I needed to break through to my 17 year old daughter. Her dressing habits had been inching away from the modest choices she had been making the last few years. We think it was her getting ready to go to college and feeling some independence coming, and Hayley's book gave her a much-needed course correction when our exhortations fell on deaf ears (and midriffs.)
