5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I'm a Lou Holtz fan, a lot of people I've talked with say the book is just a recycled version of speeches he's given.Well I've never heard him speak in person, so the stories are new to me.Some of the stories relate to his childhood, marriage, goals and obviously coaching at Notre Dame and South Carolina.Read more

Yea, Extreme is a lame word in popular culture. Congratulations to everybody who thought their acknowledgement of this was impressive. And yo, kid who was cool enough to use the word "excruciating" while dissing the Bible, did you know "excruciate" was a word that was made up to discribe the pain that Jesus went though for you? Yea, it was so bad that there was no word in existance for it yet. Boy, you're wicked smart. Wish i was that cool.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE BIBLE IS TRUTH!!!!!!
I hate it when people make reviews of the Bible like it is just a regular old book. This "book" has more truth in it then any other book in the world. So if you are not a Christian don't right a review. You don't know what you are talking about. Now I haven't read this inparticular version, but I do have the NCV version and it is the best Bible a teen could own.Its easy to read and has lots of facts stuff into it to help you understand the Bible. The Bilble is not to be taken as some old random story but very literally.Millions are pursicuted every day because of their beliefs in it.I highly recomend this Bible for young teens.
5-0 out of 5 stars Too Extreme for me
Halfway through John's Gospel and already I knew I wasn't extreme enough for this book.JC filled me with an urge to snowboard down the Rockies while screaming "screw you Satan" during my run.I almost ran out and got WWJD tatooed on my forehead.Man, that woulda been extreme. So instead I settled for some Extreme Mountain Dew and Yogurt bars while I played Tony Hawk pulling off my signature move (you guessed it), Christ Air.

4-0 out of 5 stars Words may be different but Meaning is the same
I am a children's pastor and have done studies verse by verse which compare this version to the NIV, and NKJ (which I had originally compared with King James). It is easier for young people and new Christians of any age to understand the Extreme Bible, without loosing the True interpretation of what the Bible is saying. It does vary "some" in the wording from NIV and NKJ. BUT NOT from the original meaning-which is the important point. This is NOT a paraphrase type version. Some people feel anything other then King James is not acceptable--BUT remember the KJ itself is also a translation from yet another language which had also been translated! I believe Gods Spoken and Written Word has still made it across most of the translations! In short I would highly recommend the Extreme Bible for Home reading and studies for any age alone or with your NIV, NKJ or standard KJ.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not God's real word
Just a note to say that this Bible is not the true Word of GOD. It is showing a Love towards God that is not true but that is just written so that people can feel better about themselves. Sorry for a real believer, this is not good. I suggest reading the KJV - the true version. It is not hard to understand, well it is if you think about it, but these new bibles really are not any easier, just put in a more complicated way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extreme Faith
This is such a cool bible. You can actually understand what it's talking about better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Compared to Revolve, it's only average...
I was tryign to find a devotional/bible study for my 16 year old cousin and came across Revolve and Revolve Devos.Revolve was amazing, but I'm not sure what I think of devos.I read through and while a devotional isnt exactly supposed to be a bible study, I thought it might cover more of the Word.Day 1 kind of threw me off.It quoted Matthew 5:37 "Say only yes if you mean yes and no if you mean no.If you say more than yes or no, it is from the Evil One."This was quoted in a devo regarding waiting until marriage for sex.In context, Matthew was explaining that you should not swear on anything, only say yes or no, because you can't even change a hair on your head from black to white.Granted, it's good advice, but some of the quotes were such short ones I didn't really understand the point of using them, or the intention.I read through Revolve, the Complete New Testament and I think that it is an awesome read, and would be more suitable. If you are looking for a more adult version, check out becoming. It's awesome too! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Check Into It
I liked this book better than The Light And The Glory. It is true, and must be admitted by those who look at history objrctively, that the Christian religion has had an enormous impact on the course of events in the United States . . . much more so than secular historians would have us believe. My favorite part was the minute account of the Second Great Awakening - particuarly the revival meetings in Kentucky. But these books, in and of themselves, are not going to give an individual a balenced view of U.S. history. It is just too biased. The authors have attempted to put a religous construction on all key events, and on all key men behind those events. Too much gloss. But you won't regret reading it. It's good reading, and I learned a lot from it.

1-0 out of 5 stars innacurate, nationalistic hubris
Texts like these are best kept in the religious tract section of the bookstore. The authors did indeed do a good job researching trivial details, which makes the text read like a novel and gives it an air of authority.
2-0 out of 5 stars Leaves more questions than it answers
This is an example of Christian "scholarship" at close to its worst. In fact, there are so many problems with this book that it is hard to know where to start. The authors presume to know God's will for America -- a pretty big assumption in itself -- and try to use evidence to support it. The problem is, they disregard anything that can't fit into their nice New England Calvinist box. For example, there is little or no discussion of the slavery question and the Constitutional Convention, even from a Christian perspective. In addition, the ramifications of Manifest Destiny to the Native Americans and the future of America are ignored.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Bible Commentary for adults and young people!
Rabbi Fields's Torah commentary is splendid. It is fun to read and offers insights that can be picked up at a glance in brief sittings... or can be mulled over and discussed and debated in depth with friends and family. Originally I got this text as a gift from my father to help with teachingmy Bible studies class to high school students. The students love the text-- and I also found it a joy to explore on my own.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent history and overview of Orthodox Christians in America
"Orthodox Christians in America," by John H. Erickson, is part of the "Religion in American Life" series published by Oxford University Press. What I appreciate about this series, as opposed to similar ones by other publishers, is that they have asked a uniquely qualified Orthodox Christian scholar to tell the story of his people. Other series have often been written "by committee," or by an outside observer, which cause them to lack the author's enthusiasm for his or her subject.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great intro to the history of Orthodoxy in America
Just finished Erickson's book and was impressed at how well he handled the subject in what was obviously intended for the general audience.Being a convert to Orthodoxy myself, I was curious how the book would present Orthodoxy to an "outside audience."
3-0 out of 5 stars Informative history of Orthodox Church in America
After reading Frank Schaeffer's book, "Dancing Alone--The Quest for Orthodox Faith in the Age of False Religion," in which he makes a forceful case stating that the Orthodox Church is THE true Christian church, I wanted to learn more about the Orthodox Church. My main question was, if the Orthodox Church is THE true church, then why is it virtually invisible?Schaeffer also forcefully spoke of the unity expected of Christendom, since it is the one body of Christ, and pointed to the way the Orthodox Church traces its roots to the Apostles, therefore "proving" its legitimacy. But I wondered, how unified is the Orthodox Church? It seems that Orthodox Church names are always preceded by "Greek" or "Russian" or some other ethnic marker.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good advice for teens!
Very good book with a treasure of advice for teens.

3-0 out of 5 stars My thoughts on "Teen Berries"
When I saw this book in my school library I just picked it up thinking it would be just like all the other "chicken soup for the soul" books. This book is about life, love, friendship, and tough issues of a teenager. This book really touched me with all the stories. I believe this book isn't as good as any other "chicken soup for the soul". But the writings are up there. They still touched me. Some made me cry, some made me laugh, and some made me mad. I recommend this book to other teens that are going to these problems of life.

1-0 out of 5 stars uugghh
When I saw this book I was really excited because I thought "another chicken soup for the soul book!" Well I was wrong! I couldn't believe how corny and fake the stories were. and the themes created by the authors throughout the chapters made it even worse. The book claims to be original but it is really a take off of the chicken soup for the souls and an awful one at that! i havent even finished the book yet and i don't think i ever will! if you want to read REAL stories by real teens then the chicken soup for the soul books are the way to go!! not these books!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A very meaningful book
I love stories -- especially real-life ones. This book is full of personal stories, every day stories...and yet the author reveals so much meaning in them! I thought this book was wonderful, and it made me want to take a deeper look at my life experiences and what God wants me to learn from them. This book gives me hope that I can become more like Him...that every day He gives me lessons to learn, if I'll just open my eyes and look around!

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting Closer To God
