5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Math Review Period !
Extremely well written math review from arithmetic to algerbra. Read this, then do practice questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars If math isn't your thing...
I ordered this book based largely on the recommendations that other Amazon customers left. Now that I've taken the GRE, I wanted to endorse it as well. I have a background that lacked math; I needed one math course to graduate college, took a basic algebra course and didn't do that well. Obviously I was concerned about the prospect of taking a standardized test 8 years later! This book assumes that the reader knows nothing, and is incredibly clear and concise. There were a few examples that seemed to skip a visual step but for the large part, I couldn't have fared half as well as I did without it. I found it especially helpful with addressing and solving word problems. Definitely invest the money, this book is worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Math Review for Standardized Tests (Cliffs Test Prep)
This was a very good review of basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry. There is a diagnostic test in each area. The answers reference the concepts presented and the page the concepts are presented.Concepts are presented clearly. Each concept has several practice problems. There is a review test after each section. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD MATH FORMULAS!
This gets 5 stars, because it has 100 math formulas in the back. Most people will not have to memorize all 100 formulas, because many are already memorized in students' minds!
3-0 out of 5 stars Not exactly the same as the real test.
Well, I was expecting something that would let me gauge the difficulty of the ACTs and the practice tests in this book, didn't really cut it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memory Jogger forImplementation of Basic Math Pre-Algebra
As so often happens, if not used,... forgotten!! This book refreshed my memory of high school basic math and Pre-Algebra. As I am now in an industry that utilizes math on a day by day, project by project basis, I've found this book to instrumental in my ability to succeed in my work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save yourself from frustration
I consider myself to be a fairly smart young man; more wits than anything. My math skills however are not exactly up to par. I can't really even remember the last time I had to use math other than basic adding and subtraction. I bought this book in hopes of getting re-acquainted with math and preparing myself for an upcoming Statistics class. The book does not go into detail, it doesn't explain itslef, it will say to do this and that, BUT WILL NOT SAY WHY! I am constantly trying to figure out the procedures for coming to each solution on my own. A couple years ago I bought a prep book and it was euphoric compared to this one. The book was an ASVAB prep book and covered many different areas than just math. The math section really helped me out a lot though. I cannot comprehend why people are praising this book, my guess is that they are are decent in math and for the most part are familiar with everything in the book. For me, it was like starting from scratch and this was not the book for me. If your in the same boat as me, I suggest going in a book store and looking around. Take some time practicing with the problems and see if you like how the problems are explained. In other words, don't buy a book you are going to regret buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Test Prep
This is definitely one of the ebst review books out there. It has all the information you need and a good format to learn it in, including glossaries and review questions after every section.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
This is the best AP Psychology review book out there (although Barron's has a truly excellent book too). It has large print, so it can be read in a relaxed setting. It is extremely comprehesive, as it manages to cover all aspects of the test (and then some). It was much clearer than my textbook in many of the explanations (such as operant conditioning, and learning in general). I breezed through the test and got a 5. I cannot recommend this guide enough!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for anyone considering to become a doctor
This book was great, but most of it was common sense knowlege. I had wished it had gone into more detail about medical shool etc...The ending of the book sort of just dropped off, I kind of expected more. But it was a real eye opener, and it showsthat as long as you put your mind to something you can be anything you want to. A great self motivator!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good only if your just starting your research
I found this book pretty superficial. It includes a lot of common sense ancedotes that, if you've done much research at all, will sound very repetitive.5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book

2-0 out of 5 stars Obviously
I am a little shocked at the positive reviews that this book has received. It was on this basis that I decided to get the book.
4-0 out of 5 stars To the point and full of useful info you otherwise might not think of.
I'm a new Ph.D. student, and I was strongly encouraged to read this book by a professor I had as an undergrad. It was worth it.Read it in one afternoon, but felt like I had gained 25 years worth of wisdom. It talks about the non-technical aspects of how to succeed after obtaining a Ph.D. in the sciences--conference talks, advisor choices, road to tenure, paper publishing, interviewing, etc.Much of the advice he gives was on topics I never considered, and it opened my eyes to how (as the title says) simply obtaining a Ph.D will not be enough to ensure a successful career.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thinking of a Ph.D ?
This is a good guide to life in research science, it makes the reader think through their options in a realistic manner. It pokes holes in the idea that all you need to do is be enthusiastic to succeed. Definitely worth your while reading the first few chapters before taking on a PhD in Science, as the supervisor and project you choose will have a large affect on your success!! Even if you have started your research work later chapters will give a good perspective on issues for your future in academia. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Anyone Thinking About Attending College
I own this book and I also had the honor of attending a lecture Donald Asher gave in Chicago. This book is for all of students out there who are un-conventional... perfect also for the ones out there who are thinking about going to a non-ivy league school.

2-0 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE

4-0 out of 5 stars great resource
I have looked at several editions of this book over the past few years and am always impressed by the amount of information it provides. This book does a great job of providing information on universities by state and by focus of study. It gives plenty of information to help potential graduate students make more informed choices. My only complaint is a small one. I would prefer if they added a way to look up specific degrees. Right now you have to look up each school to see the degrees or look it up by focus. If you wanted to earn an EdD for example, you would have to look through every school or subject listed. Not a big deal, but my only suggestion for improving this great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Guide
This is a great guide to finding graduate schools in Psychology. It helped me in my master's and I hope it helps with going to my PhD.

5-0 out of 5 stars K&W Guide to Colleges for Students with Learning Disabilities, 8tH Edition
I found the book to be very helpful in eliminating the schools that we were looking at without the need to visit. And also naming schools never even considered,
1-0 out of 5 stars This book is outdated and inaccurate
Because all public colleges and universities have to make reasonable accommodations for qualified students with disabilities (i.e. students who can perform the college work with minor adjustments), these guides are a waste of time, paper, and ink.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
Oh thanksgiving day, I am thankful for this book and the great help it was for me during the past year.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Subject
This is the only book you will need to help you apply to law school. The author covers everything from personal statements to Loan repayment programs at top schools. The author focus on top twenty schools but the information should be helpful to anyone. The best part is hundreds of quotes on all subjects directly from the deans of admissions at top schools. It includes quotes from the deans at every school in the top 15 in the U.S. News and world report rankings and a number of other institutions including Boston College, George Washington, USC, UCLA, and Boston University. This is particularly helpful if you are targeting one of these top schools. There are executive summaries at the end of the chapters if you don't have time to read the entire book. This work will help anyone taking the application process seriously to maximize their chances of getting into the best school they can.

4-0 out of 5 stars best for people who are still deciding whether to apply
This book certainly has some helpful information, but the author spends a good bit of time trying to help the reader make sure that he/she wants to go to law school and wants to be a laywer. He does some motive-chekcing (Why do want to go to LS? Are you sure you're doing it for the right reasons? etc). This may prove helpful for those who are still unsure, but not for those who have already thought through these questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Free Is Even Better
Ben Kaplan's book is great. I recommend it to all my students who are looking for financial help. I also tell my students to run by the possibility of the totally free college, West Point. You can learn about the significance of West Point to America by reading Norman Thomas Remick's, "West Point: Character Leadership Education..".

I have done some extensive research and Ben Kaplan hits it right on the head. He shows you what you need to do to get money for college in the form of scholarships. He is the scholarship coach. 5-0 out of 5 stars How to go to College Almost for Free
I bought this for my grandson, he has already written in for several grants, and working on more. This is a great gift for any high school kid, and even kids in college. I don't believe the parents should go into debet for this, the kids will do much better if they have to work for it. I've seen to many parents almost go broke with several kids at college at the same time. They end up with nothing for retirement. Although there are many reasons you could score poorly on the SAT, this book is not one of them.I own a number of these prep guides and this book is by far the best for preparing to do well on the Critical Reading portion of the exam. It's clear, it's useful, and it teaches you the strategies you need. And it's fun to read.
1-0 out of 5 stars this sucks
i studied this product for two full months before taking the June0306 sats. i did every review and actually felt quite confident that i had milked the book for all it was worth and actually got ten points LOWER than my previous score. worthless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best guide nor the worst guide
For years and years have I studied for the SATs. I always seem to fail in the Critical Reading section even though I have received much advice from English teachers. This 3-Minute SAT Critical Reading book will surely save you a lot of time, for it sums up what I learned in the past three or four years. It also makes learning fun. By presenting caricatures, the author makes the tedious materials fun. I highly recommend this book to those who are struggling in reading comprehension like me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No Sour Grapes Here
If this was written by a Harvard-reject, credibility would be the central issue. This author, however, received his undergraduate and graduate degree from Harvard and is one of the few insiders who is qualified to reveal the secret: Harvard, etal are great institutions because of the kids they get and not what they do for the kids.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not my first choice
Harvard Schmarvard is an excellent resource although it is not my favorite book on the college admissions process. The author, Jay Mathews, is funny and insightful, but doesn't always make the best case against brand name schools as his many stories of where students happily ended up include schools which really are pretty well-known powerhouses like Tufts, UCLA, or Columbia.
5-0 out of 5 stars Life Outside the Ivy League
There certainly is life and there certainly are alternatives outside the Ivy League. You can get an Ivy League level of education plus so much more in the way of building leadership and character for your future life at a college like West Point, a college that, believe it or not, everyone has a good shot at getting into despite its reputation. You can learn the real story of the West Point way of education by reading "West Point: Thomas Jefferson: Character Leadership Education" by Remick. ... Read more
