3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD WITH OTHER MATERIALS
I was forwarded this book by my AP teacher. I thought that along with the class, the book helped. I would use this along with your class textbook and class notes. But if you are taking this without a class, I would not recomend it. I would definately use an actual text book, such as the AP version of World Civilizations: the global experience. the book is written by someone who writes the AP exam, and it very good. The book is definately worth the money. I would also use the college board's AP website for the requirements and make sure that you can answer those comparisons. I made charts that had those comparisons. But I would only use this book along with your class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Depends on what you prefer...
I took the AP World History exam in 2004.This book was my primary source of information, since my teacher was absolutely useless. We were given "study outlines" that were never gone over, and the material was very rarely taught.I didn't really begin studying for the AP exam until March/April.I started to read this book, and found it to be very helpful. When I took the test, I got a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot Words for the SAT
I received the order quickly and the book was in great condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool for students w/average vocab
I have used this book in my high school junior English classes, and for most students it is very helpful. It's true that it's harder to write quizzes on the words because of the cluster method, but that's a teacher's problem, not a student's. The clusters do help them remember words that are related. I've talked to SAT prep instructors who highly recommend this book. Unless you're a vocab star, give it a try.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book unless u noe it all
The structure of this book is amazing especially their ideas to cluster words. its a lot easier to learn words that way. But if u believe that ur vocab is really amazing or if uve learnt the words from Barron's Mega 3500 word list then don't go 4 this book. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best SAT Book!
Rocket Review is the best SAT book I have read so far, and what sets it apart from all the rest is its thoroughness and logical explanations. It is because Adam Robinson knows the SAT very well, and he knows how to explain this knowledge in a clear, concise, and logical manner. All the other SAT books will say basically the same things: don't panic, use POE, etc etc. These are all viable tips. But Rocket Review will not only tell you what to do, it will also explain why and how to do it. Sometimes I read an SAT tip, but I don't really understand what it means or how I should go about practicing it. With Rocket Review, this will never be a problem. There are people who can't teach, and people who can. How many times have you encountered a perfectly intelligent teacher, who in his intelligence can't seem to understand your difficulties with the subject? Adam Robinson is not one of those people. He is intelligent, no doubt, but he also knows how to teach in an easily understood manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars SAT Prep, best yet for students with a brain
Rocket Review works well for any high school student with the ability to think.Any student who spends the time to go through Adam's brilliant work will clearly improve his chances to score higher on the New SAT.I was able to locate a weakness of mine with the 'counting' problems which I had not detected using other prep courses.
1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME
I am a learning specialist with 10 years of experience teaching high school and tutoring privately. This book offers grossly misguided advice about test taking strategies and worse, the answer key for the practice exam is INCORRECT!I have only gotten through 2 sections and have found THREE incorrect answers. In addition, several of the questions for the sentence completions as well as the first reading passages are completely inane...with inappropriate usage of several vocabulary words. This book does not even give an accurate breakdown of the test questions for each section - couldn't they figure out how to at least count correctly???If you want a comprehensive, ACCURATE guide to the new SAT, use the Official Study Guide for the New SAT put out by the College Board. It offers 8 practice tests developed by the same people who generate the actual SAT exam (as opposed to 1, inaccurate exam). The biggest outrage, and indication of this book's absurd approach, is how it touts the thousands of statistics they laboriously plowed through to develop the best review book ever. How is this even possible when the first version of the new Sat was given this past March! There are no substantial statistics yet!I am not a competitor.I do not work for or represent the College Board.I am an outraged educator who just threw out $20 and would like to save you from doing the same. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for the high school graduate
My son received this book as a graduation gift.I ordered 6 copies to give to his friends.Everyone loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Without a Doubt -- Required Reading!
I should start off by saying that I've bought The Naked Roommate for my son, my son's friends, my nephews, my nieces, and for my friends' children and a few friends (they were having a tough time dealing with the college transition). Every single person who has picked it up has raved about it.The book captures the essense of college life in a way that is rarely seen and heard.I just heard through my nephew that it's being used as required reading on his friend's colleges. I was familiar with the author from his advice column, and appreciate his style of writing.I'm also a fan website(thenakedroommate.com) an online forum for the book. I found the title after I came across a rave review by the New England Board of Higher Education (I'm a teacher). That was last year, and this year I saw it everywhere! But I saw it first! Anyone who has something disparaging to say about this book, clearly has not read the book or has some other motive. In conclusion, this book is smart, funny, witty, extremely well researched, on the the best book out there for students, parents, educators, and anyone who wants to know about college life.I can't wait for his next.I'm sold.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Complete Waste of Time
I read this book for an english summer homework assignment. Although the back description and introduction allude to an interesting and valuable read, do not expect much. This book is a sore disappointment for anyone who possesses a genuine love of reading. The plot is unbelievably simplistic and unoriginal and it was difficult for me to believe that two well educated scholars wrote it. I was bored to tears after the opening paragraph of the "story" and have had a tough time finishing it. If it weren't for the fact that I will be tested on this, I would have gladly exchanged it for a more engaging read. In terms of SAT prep, it was not entirely helpful there either. Many times throughout the book, it seemed as though the authors exchanged simpler words for complex, lesser known SAT words. The problem was that the SAT words did not fit the context and were spoken by characters that would not have had any clue about the word. The characters were dull and 2-D without ever developing or being explored. The dialogue was unreal and forced. 2-0 out of 5 stars Good for the clueless....
When I first saw this book, I was excited with this "novel" approach. My friend said it was good, so I started reading.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Bill
I am private math SAT tutor and a math professor at a top tier university in New England, and I recommend this book without reservation. The problems are thorough and serve as an excellent refresher for the types of problems found on the new SAT 1 math portions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good and comprehensive
This book is a very fine book to study in preparation for the New SAT I. I've studied MANY different SAT books as a student. This book offers problems that may be given on the SAT's that I have not seen in other books. There are all levels of difficulties also. There is no "fluffy" pages with wordy explanations. Its explanations and summaries of every topic is concise and understandable. A major plus of this book is that it offers MANY math problems of every subject covered on the SAT I. (the key way in getting a higher score is being exposed to many types of problems and becoming familiar with them through repeated exercises)Each page of this book is worth its money.

5-0 out of 5 stars A No-Nonsense Book that willBoost Your SAT I Math Score
If you are looking for an SAT I math text geared to the new 2005 SAT with enough practice problems to sink a battleship, this is it.The book has accurate, succinct reviews of the SAT's key math concepts including all of the new topics starting with the March 2005 administration of the exam.No superfluous page-wasting garbage like in Up Your Score or SATs for Dummies. The meat of this book is problem after problem organized by topic so you can focus on your weak areas. The only real way to improve your SAT math score is to work through a truckload of problems in order to gain speed and confidence in your problem-solving skills.Notwithstanding the claims of the internet quick-buck artists anxious to sell you the "SAT secrets" and take your money, there are no short-cut gimmicks to boost your scores.Problem solving techniques such as substituting variables and backsolving can be useful, but Princeton Review and the other test prep companies dramatically OVERSTATE their usage. They are time-consuming and backsolving often can't be used on the more difficult questions. The sad reality is that the best way to smoke SAT I math is to know your stuff-- and this book delivers.By the way, I am not a student.I am a consistent 99th percentile scorer who owns a math learning center and tutors SAT I Math as part of my curriculum. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Really Great College Guide!
I wondered why this text hasn't been updated since 2005, but it would be a difficult book to briefly update every year, and I'm sure the information is accurate still (in October 2006).It's a great interesting book.I wasn't looking at any of these colleges for my students but I literally read this book cover to cover. It provided me with information that allowed me to better understand the top schools. There were schools I would definitely recommend to my students and others I would never even think of recommending now.
4-0 out of 5 stars great resource for college bound students
Of all the college information books i have read this one has been the most helpful.I strongly suggest it to any student interested in any of these "top schools".The student perspective gives much deeper insight into what life is like on campus. This book helped me rule out some schools i was considering, and also gave me a different view of schools i wasn't very interested in before.

5-0 out of 5 stars My college admissionssavior
I am a junior in high school currently, and this has been my BIBLE for the year.It is clearly well-researched, well-edited, and very well-informed.It is from a perspective of current students, which is excellent because I am personally too shy to talk to random people on-campus when I'm visiting the actual colleges. While it does not cover every aspect of every college, it makes no claim that it does so and it certainly gets closer than any other college guide.I didn't buy any other college books, because it has been so helpful to me in my searches. This book has served multiple purposes for me: for one thing, it opened my eyes to some places that I thought I wouldn't want to look at, but which I'm now thinking I'd like to visit. For another thing, I always read it after I get back from a college visit, to compare what I saw to what other people who actually attend say about it, to see if what I was seeing was a fairly accurate representation of the school.I love the fact that I can read through three different student reviews and see which one would be the most like me--it is so helpful when weighing schools to be able to compare onesself to the actual students. This book has lessened the stress of applying to college immensely, and I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone starting out on the Great College Search. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars great book
With literally only 3 days to study for the exam, I used this book to help me out, and I read ALL the review, and even had time to take a practice test. There are 30 chapters and a quiz after each one (about 5 questions) which really help, and the really scary thing is the questions were strickingly similar to the actual AP Exam, actually some were almost EXACTLY the same.I went from a "1" on the diagnostic test to a "4" after reading the whole book.I hope I did that well on the actual exam =)

4-0 out of 5 stars Want a high score? You still might not want this book
The fact that this book contains a formidable 15 exams, dwarfing its competitors in the sheer number of tests offered, alone makes this book a valuable purchase for somebody seeking a VERY high score on the Math IIC.If your target score is not above a 750, this is not the book for you.I am a very good math student and could not finish a single exam, and my highest score was a 700 flat.I highly recommend buying this book in tandem with Kaplan Math IIC.Kaplan is notoriously easier than Barrons or Princeton (neither of which are as hard as this).Do as many Meylani tests as you can, then with 5 days before the exam, do a few Kaplan exams to get your confidence up, as Kaplan is largely accurate to the actual exam.Using the Meylani was very helpful to me, and made the actual exam seem significantly easier than it would have been otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Overprep but smart and very helpful
This book makes you feel as if you are about to have a heart attack while doing the tests. But on the test day you feel very confident when you see the real questions and you start to ask yourself, "Hey, will the hard questions ever show up?" Your scores and timing should not discourage you while doing the tests in this book (my highest score was 680 but I still managed to get my 800). Here is a hint, the easy questions in this book are the standard ones you will be seeing in the real test. There will be only two - three questions similar to the ones in this book. Nevertheless, my advice is to go over all questions and their solutions. And, the way this book overpreps you is better than other's, especially the Barron's one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Prep for 2C.

Editorial Review

While almost anything goes in a college-application essay, law-school applicants are expected to be a little more sophisticated. No navel-gazing allowed. But please, no pontificating, either. Like admissions officers everywhere, those at law schools are looking for something fresh. That means, says Boykin Curry, that unless you are quite certain that you've got a spectacular new approach, you should avoid such topics as "Why I want to be a public defender," "I have always wanted to be a lawyer since I was ten," and "What I think about justice" ("lecturing on the law--before you have studied it--" Curry warns, "is likely to bore and irritate the reader"). Instead, be honest, and be creative. Use these essays for inspiration. One essayist here demonstrates his bargaining skills by relating his Peace Corps experiences haggling over goat meat in Niger. Another writes touchingly of his stated goal: to practice law with the same integrity that his grandfather brought to his carpentry business. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for me
I have a biology and computer science background and was very nervous about my ability to write an impressive essay compared to other applicants with a background in english, history, and political science.I quickly identified with the essays of non traditional applicants, but also learned a great deal from the wit, charm, and literary styles of the other essays.I found the book to be invaluable in my application efforts.Thank you.

3-0 out of 5 stars A helpful book but could have been better
I personally found it helpful to see what other applicants had written. The forty essays in this book are separated into seven categories. They are essays about: Character, the school and you, important changes, entering the legal profession, contemplative, crimes, and applicants with colorful backgrounds.I found about half of the essays to be of little help to me personally as they were more the result of an applicant's specific abilities than a good essay. For example, I did not find essays about being a congressman's son, growing up as a Native American, or living in Niger to be to helpful. It would also have been nice to know which essays worked at which schools. It mentions the schools on the cover but does not tell which essays went to each school. This would be especially helpful since some worked at Florida State and Tulane while others worked at Harvard and Stanford an obvious difference.Personally, I found How to get into the Top Law Schools to be more helpful but this is good as supplementary reading.

3-0 out of 5 stars Boring Essays
The book has its helpful points, but the overwhelming majority of the essays in this book are boring and don't stand out in too many ways, in my opinion. I'm having a hard time seeing why the various admissions officers chose to submit the essays in this book--probably because most applicants write boring essays, as even the admissions officers in this book will tell you. I also guess it's because the title of the book is "Essays That Worked," not "Essays That Are Impressive." And I'll bet the essays mainly "worked" because everything else in their admissions files was stellar and they were written in a decent fashion. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Good for an SAT Study Book
I actually bought The Mayan Mission not knowing that it was the second book in the series (see my review there). Then I read this one just for fun.Dr. Chapman did a great job mixing a hip novel (cover) with an excellent word study program.I highly recommend both books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended SAT preparation
We purchased this book on the strong recommendation of a relative, and can likewise recommend it to others, without a bone of contention...
5-0 out of 5 stars My sister gave me this
This book is very, very good. My sister is totally into poetry and I'm not but she read this book the Marino Mission, and totally dug it, and Im never reading her stuff, but this was great!A teen romance, but with better writing than what's normal, and definitely NOT BORING.Although it's about a very cute guy hooking up with the heroine in the book. it's really a quite good because its got great adventure and a * thrilling * story.I'm in 9th grade but my sister is in 11th and gets "A"s where I do not, but I learned so much from this book, many new words, because of the notes at the bottom. But mainly I loved the story, I Loved it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A sip of Calculus
This book is barely a review, all it does is state the core concepts. You will neither understand nor be able to use much of what you learn to do in this book, except perhaps the limits section. I'd rather use this as a reference guide than as an outline. For a better outline which presents you with a better background before you delve deep into the topic of Calculus and explains topics and gives you an insight on the theorems, get Schaum's outline of Calculus. Otherwise, get this as a last resort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Supplement to Your Thick Calc Textbook
I would not of survived Calculus I without this handy little book. For a quick review and as a study guide, you cannot beat this little book when compared to your 900 page textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent quick reference
I bought this slim little book when I was first taking Calculus in High School. It helped me immensely with learning and studying Calculus, and provided a great refresher come test time.Since then, I have sometimes needed a formula, and this manual has again been very useful.Calculus is one of those things you forget if you don't use it, and I was in danger of forgetting it when I took a Physics class which required a basic knowledge of Calculus. Thanks in part to this little book, I was able to brush up on the subject and be prepared for my class, though it has been several years since I first learned Calculus in High School and I have had little occasion to use it since.Read more
