4-0 out of 5 stars I shot an arrow in the air...
There are lots of remarkable things in this world. The fact that a butterfly comes from a creepy little caterpillar. The array of colors visible in a soap bubble. And the perpetual unending ravenous hunger kids have for murder mystery tales. They just can't get enough.Hardy Boys books obviously were one of the first tales to capitalize on this need, but they were by no means the last.Over the years various authors have made forays into the world of kids-solving-mysteries.Some of the best also take care to tread closely to the original Hardy Boy formula. You take a basic mystery (someone dies) and then add on a potentially supernatural element for the fun of it.Even Scooby-Doo knows that there's nothing like a ghost or phantom to make an already creepy tale just a bit more enjoyable. And few authors have adhered so closely to this formula as historical mystery writer (and resident Brit) Chris Priestley. His books are basically Hardy Boys novels sucked back in time to the 1700s and involving (instead of two boys) a boy and a friend who happens to be an old and wise doctor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Young Adult IS appropriate
Enough with Romeo and Juliet, enough with 'near-pornography'! The fact that this is a tragedy reminiscent of Shakespeare is used as a contrast of R&J, not a retelling.
2-0 out of 5 stars Quite Disappointing-Not Worth Reading
I have read many of Philip Pullmans other books, so I must say that my expectations for this were high and perhaps that's why I gave it such a low rating.
5-0 out of 5 stars so utterly fantastic
although i must admit this book didn't have quite as much depth as the sally lockart series and his dark materials series, it was still fantastic.this is a very sad book but i really enjoyed it.i read it in one day.i absoulutly love all of philip pullman's books.this book didn't dissapoint me, i highly recommend it to you, i'm sure it won't dissapoint you either.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This series is rather juvenile
I grew up with Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.I've read some of the original editions (which unfortunately reflect the sexism and overt racism of their pre-WWII origins), all but one or two of the re-writes from the 1960s and 1970s (which are better in those categories), and significant proportion of the 'new' versions.
4-0 out of 5 stars One cool book!
This Book was really great. I loved the action and the scam. It was great. I really think that people 10 and up would enjoy this book alot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for kids, but a GREAT book!
The graphic details of torture and fighting, the acceptance of revenge and violence - these things stop it from being a book appropriate for young men.Any child (aged 11-16) who reads this book would get the impression that revenge and violence are perfectly acceptable ways of dealing with tragedy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A dark tale of discovery and unusual talents set against a backdrop of murder
Kevin Brooks' The Road Of The Deadtells of a teen who can sense things nobody else can. After his sister's death, he and his brother leave their London home for the moors of Devon, where they are determined to uncover the truth behind her murder. The Road Of The Dead is a recommended pick for mature teens: a dark tale of discovery and unusual talents set against a backdrop of murder.
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
I usually don't pick up books at the library unless the inside front cover synopsis hints at romance or humor. The Road of the Dead hinted at neither, but something made me take it anyway. Perhaps I was just tyring to convince myself that the above statement wasn't true.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Black Wave is Coming
Yes, a black wave may be coming and it looks like it will be directed against Starlocket (the coven of the magic shop owner).Because of Morgan's history, the International Council of Witches asks her to risk everything to try and get closer to the source of the evil (the evil witch who tried to kill her in New York City).5-0 out of 5 stars brilliant!
Morgan thinks shes poison, so she breaks up with Hunter :( and shes very sad about it. A council person comes to Morgan called Eoife (i think...) and she thinks that Ciaran (who is morgans dad) is going to send a dark wave or something to Starlocket, which is Alyces coven. Morgan has to find Ciaran and if possible stop him. Killian, who comes in to the story in the calling, also adds a little mischief too... Ciaran and morgan turn into wolves and their prey is... do you think i would spoil it?!? Just coz everyone else has.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed
Apart from the 9th book, this was definately one of the worst books in the series. Book 7 was terrific but this book was just annoying. Firstly, The whole good-evil thing is just getting irritating. I am glad Morgan and Hunter "finally" got back together again, but I thought that Morgan wanting to kill Hunter when she was a wolf was possibly the worst storyline yet. I love Killian he is v. cool, Ciaran also has alot of class and Eoife was also a really great character, I wish she'd stayed through book 9 instead of Erin. At one part in the book, Hunter mentioned to Morgan how he also had "struggles" between good and evil but I would have been more convinced if he'd given an example. I think that this series is overall very good, but it lacks alot of balance, everything is so dark, there's never any light. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Mystery Book
Katie Gillian is a teenaged girl who moved to a little town in Texas with her mother. Katie was expecting to spend several months in a new school, with a few friends and little excitement. What she experienced instead was far from boring. This story includes crimes, murders, and adventures that are guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seat. You are following Katie and her mother as they each solve a different mystery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantabulous!!! (my way of saying fantastic and fabulous in one)
The Colossus of Rhodes, is yet another great novel written by Caroline Lawrence. Lupus now owns a ship and he has given it to Flavia's father the sea captain so he can go on one of his voyages to Rhodes so he can more more money by bringing stuff back to Ostia. While on the ship, the four friends, Nubia, Lupus,Jonathan,Flavia, discover that children are being kidnapped and taken to Rhodes where they are headed. Lupus is very interested in this and when fate brings him back to his home where he thought his mother would be, he has to make a choice between two things; both depending on him.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Historical Fiction Mystery Series
Caroline Lawrence outdid herself in creating these histicly accurate, fictitious, adventures for children and youth. Both girls and boys will love finding a character they can relate to.They are wonderful read aloud books, or about 4th or 5th grade and up silent reading material. As Flavia, Nubia, Johnathan and Lupas travel through different parts of the Roman empire in about 79AD, we learn many things about Roman History and culture. This book actually takes them on a trip through the Greek Isles to break a ring of slave traders who kidnap free born children and sell them into slavery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprised and Delighted!
I'm not normally a science fiction reader, but to my surprise, I loved Alien Secrets! It's impossible to stop at the end of a chapter--each one ends with such a suspenseful hook that you're pulled on into the next. The plot twists are great and the characters are strong. I couldn't guess who would turn out to be the villain!

5-0 out of 5 stars WooHoo!!!
This is one of the best books I've ever read.Heck, I'm 20 and I still marvel at Annette Curtis Klause's abilites as a writer. She is wonderful.I read this book when I was 12 years old and have never regretted it; no matter what age, if you have an imagination you'll love this novel.Children will be captivated by the wonderfully drawn characters and the rich scifi drama. If they ever make a movie or TV drama out of this, I'll hope it turns out half as good as the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aliens, spaceships, ghosts; what will they think of next?
This is about a girl named Robin Goodfellow - a name she really doesnt like (for people keep quoting Shakespeare to her), but she does like the nickname which goes along with it, Puck. Puck gets expelled from school (seventh grade, I think), and so then is going to go to the planet Shoon (as know by the natives) to be with her parents. On board, mysteries arise. Puck befriends a Shoowa, who is also going home in shame, but because he lost (it was stolen) a precious relic of his people. Puck decides to help Hush, and together, they must find out who stole the Soo, and where it is. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars not so great...
I am a big fan of fear street books, and I have about 30 at home. This book and The Dare are my two least favorites. Maybe it's just because I've been reading these for so long, but I knew who the killer was on the first couple pages. It's so obvious that it's jealousy. My favorites are Silent Night, All Night Party, Sunburn, and the New Year's Party. Go get one of those instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Found this book and was amazed by the cover!
This is one of the fear street books that I've been looking for for a long time.I finally found it at my local library and went nuts just thinking about what RL Stine did in this story to make it scary. Anyway, it's about a girl named Selena who finds a love of acting at her highschool and is always the star of the plays there. After one of the plays, she finds a bouquet of dead roses in her locker. She is "haunted" by a secret admirer who leaves behind a sticker of the sun on every one of his notes. No, I'm not going to give it all away, but I will tell you that the ending really surprised me.If you love RL Stine as much as I do, and you know how he likes surprises, you should find this book and be sure to think about it as you read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mysterious Musings
Dec is a great narrator - totally reliable for a teen. The story is short and would probably qualify as "high interest" for lower level or on-level 9th graders. There was a twist or two that I did not see coming, which makes the book a good choice for serious readers as well. The best part about the book, however, is the conglomeration of friends Dec has at school. This is a group of high achievers who consider rationalizing a teacher out of existence, or spending a day without using any words with "O" in them is fun - where do they really come from?I would recommend this book for teachers and students.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Journey Though a Teenager's Thoughts
A Thief in the House of Memory is a young adult book that is one of those books that would almost make a better movie. It's an incredibility well written story and follows a teenager who changes his mind about people that he interacts with all the time.Through the way the author wrote the book, my idea of the characters changed as well.Tim Wynne-Jones grabbed my emotions by changing my approach and assumptions of the other characters and himself. It jumps around from the present time to past memories which make the book contrasting but often confusing. It can get confusing at first for a reader so I advise you to read slowly and carefully to follow the book correctly.I did find it very interesting because it was from a teenager's prospective which made it out of the ordinary from books I have read before.I would suggest it to anyone who has time to sit down, have patience, and follow the book!
4-0 out of 5 stars ...................

5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Lulu Dark is back, and definitely done with her days as a girl detective. She's got enough on her plate without solving mysteries. And, anyway, Lulu is so not the girl detective type, even if she did do a spectacular job of solving a mystery in LULU DARK CAN SEE THROUGH WALLS. That's all over, and so is school! Lulu is thrilled that summer vacation has finally arrived. She is going to watch bad television, hang out with her friends, talk on the phone, and sunbathe on the fire escape. She is not going to be doing any detective work, no matter what mystery comes her way...Right?
5-0 out of 5 stars A girl detective who will not only make readers swoon, but keep them reading long into the night!
Lulu Dark is ecstatic that summer has finally arrived. She's even come up with an entire course of action for her vacation - sleep in until noon everyday, eat a huge brunch at Little Edie's, sunbathe, and camp out in front of the TV. But her plans are destroyed the moment B-list actress - and Lulu's semi-estranged mother - Isabelle Dark, appears in Halo City to film a new movie, and promptly disappears, pulling Lulu out of her summer vacation reverie, and sticking her in the middle of a good old fashioned mystery. Sure, Lulu's mother has a reputation for being flaky, and forgetful, but even Lulu has a hunch that this time, Isabelle is in real danger. Of course, finding the mysterious note from the so-called Fox, among Isabelle's things doesn't help to make her feel any better about the whole situation, and before she knows it, Lulu realizes that it's up to her to save mommy dearest before something terrible happens to her. Now that Lulu, amateur girl detective, and professional summertime slacker, is on the case, she must do her best to keep her head above water as she crosses paths with some of the strangest characters known to man - from a teen screen queen named Lisa Lincoln (who embodies real teen queen Lindsay Lohan, right down to her auburn hair, and diva-esque attitude), to a fleet of robotic, muscle-bound maids, a dodgy director, and an overweight cross-dresser named Helena, as she searches high and low for her mother, as well as the true identity of the Fox.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great summer mystery with a Flare!
I liked the first Lulu book very much, but this one has more pizzazz. The writing is hilarious, the characters are fun to follow and well thoughtout!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's been a whole year
It's been a whole year since the tragic death of Joan Lowery Nixon, and thinking about her many gifts as an author, I miss her today, as the stack of manuscripts she finished but didn't live to see published dwindles down. She won the Edgar Award an incredible four times, but her greatest happiness came from the letters and reviews her readers gave her, for there are many readers whose favorite writer will always be Joan Lowery Nixon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tenderness
Cormier takes this beautiful word and turns it into something terrifying.Flashing between the viewpoints of two troubled teens, this harrowing novel reads like an assiduous character study, pulling no punches yet somehow engaging the reader's sympathy for these two memorable characters.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Excellent
This book captured me mind, body, and soul. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Robert Cormier was an excellent writer and this book was his BEST. I definately suggest this book to anyone!!! This book puts you directly into a killers mind.... and it's a beautiful place in there. It really is. You learn a lot about how they think and that they, too, have feelings and emotions and reasons (except for being a psychopath) that they kill. Aboslutely wonderful.

2-0 out of 5 stars My review for Tenderness
Tenderness, by Robert Cormier was a good book, which was really exciting to read. The beginning of the book shared the little world for Lori Cranston and her weird fixations, which can only be erased when she kisses the man she has her fixations on.Eric Poole, also a teenager murders his parents cold bloodedly. Then towards the middle of the story Cormier begins to bring the two characters together on this mysterious adventure.
