5-0 out of 5 stars Virtual Reality
Tom Clancy's Virtual Vandals is a great book in an exciting series with lots of action in this future based military story. This book is about Matt Hunter, the main character, with his friends David Grey and Leif Anderson which are teenaged kids who can figure out computers better than their adult counterparts. Matt Hunter and his friends go to a baseball game when the vandals come and light the stadium up with their virtual proxy's Tommy guns. It takes Matt many clues to figure out all their identities when he uncovers the mastermind behind it all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Book
Tom Clancy's book, Virtual Vandals, is one of the best. Matt Hunter is a young Net Force Explorer. When he and his friends, some in holo form, attend a virtual baseball game in Carmen Yards in the year 2025, they find themselves under fire! A group of 1930's gangster style holo's has appeared and are shooting at the holo's with virtual Tommy guns! This book is amazing. I found myself staying up late into the early hours of the mourning just to read Tom Clancy's Virtual Vandals. I really couldn't put it down! This book is a must read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read for young science-fiction fans
Matt Hunter, an enthusiastic Net Force Explorer, and his friends are sitting in the stadium of Camden Yards watching a holographic baseball game. There are only a few people who are physically present at Camden Yards, because most spectators have bought a virtual seat and are watching the game from their home, while at the same time being represented as holographic images at the stadium. Suddenly four virtual viewers stand up from their seats and start firing at the audience with machine guns. One of Matt's friends is hit by a holographic bullet and struggles for his life. Matt starts to wonder how it is possible that people can get hurt by virtual bullets. With the help of the Net Force Explorer team he starts his investigations and soon reveals something that is much bigger than what that vandal's prank might seem at first sight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exciting plot,, diverse characters
This book (and the series) may be aimed at pre-teens but is surprisingly sophisticated in the ways it deals with some of the harsher problems of life faced by its protagonists.Add to these the underlying philosophies of the Roman world of the first century AD, and you have a story rich in setting, characters and plot--mainly because the sense of youthful adventure is never ever neglected.Very highly recommended reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Every book that Caroline Lawrence writes is based on a character in the roman mysteries series. This book was based on Jonathan. Jonathan and his friends Lupus, Nubia and Flavia go to Rome to solve a mystery for the emperor Titus. During solving the mystery, Jonathan gets an urge to show something to his father. Something very important. Something that has to do with Jonathan's family. In this book, Berenice(said to be the empress) was told by emperor Titus to leave the city returns once again. I rated this book 5 because it has all the actions and adventures that a great book should have!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great (but not the best of the series)
Its great. Its follows a myth like The Twelve Tasks of Flavia and once again we meet some characters we've seen from the past. (Tip: read the series in order). ... Read more

Editorial Review

So what if he's legally blind? Even with his bottle-thick, bug-eyed glasses, Paul Fisher can see better than most people. He can see the lies his parents and brother live out, day after day. No one ever listens to Paul, though--until the family moves to Tangerine. In Tangerine, even a blind, geeky, alien freak can become cool. Who knows? Paul might even become a hero! Edward Bloor's debut novel sparkles with wit, authenticity, unexpected plot twists, and heart. The writing is so fine, the story so triumphant, that you just might stand up and shout when you get to the end. Hooray! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tangerine Book Review
This bookis outstanding.it talks about reletionships and tradgedy as well as disabilities and the truth. I gave this book a five star rating because of the apparent time, thought and effort put into the creative text. My absolute favorite part of this book is the very ending because it shows remembrance of a lost freind. I would recommend this book to people with interests such as soccer, and ages 11-14 because of the setting at a Tangerine Middle School and Lake Windsor Middle School.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ummm...Fantastic!
Tangerine was an "read catching" book. When my language arts class read it I couldn't help but pay attention.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Student's Review
I think kids from ages 10 and up could read this book. I think this because there is some swearing in it, and this book has kids of this age in it, so it will probly be easier for them to conect with the characters. The author made it clear that she likes to leave her readers on the edge of their chairs, because this book was very mystrious and suspensful. That was the one thing I liked about this book. Over all the book Tangerine was very good! ... Read more

SONS OF ENTROPY
5-0 out of 5 stars A great Buffy the Vampire Slayer trilogy
You know how many times you get suckered into buying a bunch of paperbacks because it is some giant continued story?Well, trust me, this one is well worth the investment in time and cash.Golden and Holder are far and away the best writers working on Buffy books and in this entire series they get free reign with the characters and their imagination. There is also a respect for Buffy and her friends you do not always get in such books.Let me put it another way: you know how good this series is?I went out and got a hardback edition because this is a keeper (even if you do not have a gate).

5-0 out of 5 stars The concluding book in an epic Buffy trilogy
The Gatekeeper Trilogy is far and away the best of the Buffy books.Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder are far and away the best writers working on the books.Since they are also the main authors of the Watcher Guides they certainly have the requisite knowledge of the characters and the Buffy mythos. In retrospect I ended up feeling about these three books pretty much the way I did about the original Star Wars trilogy where the second one is the best and the finale has a bit of trouble living up to your expectations because what has gone before has been so great. However, put them together and they simply set the bar higher for everyone who comes in their wake.Read more

This month, in my english class i read a book called the doom stone. I give this booke a 3 out of 5. it was mediocer at best. The book, i thought, had poorly developed characters, i disliked the plot line, and the book wasn't really like the reviews said. I also thought the story dragged on about a lot of things. Don't get me wrong, I like Paul Zindel, but this wasn't my favorite book from him. That is why I give this book a 3 out of 5.
2-0 out of 5 stars The doom stone

5-0 out of 5 stars Engaging YA read
This was a fun story about Miranda Tate, who wrapped her father's car around a telephone pole and was sent off to reform school.
5-0 out of 5 stars spine-chilling boarding school tale
After fifteen-year-old Miranda uses her stepmother's credit cards for a "little" shopping spree and takes her father's car for a spin that ends in a "minor" accident, she's unceremoniously shipped off to Bard Academy, a school for troubled teens.Miranda notices right away that things at Bard are a bit off.All the teachers go by initials only -- Mrs. B and Mrs. W, for example.None of them are ever seen eating or sleeping, and Mrs. W always leaves mysterious wet footprints. The first student she meets there is a tall, dark guy named Heathcliff who can't read, thinks her name is Cathy, and is intent on helping her. There's also the rumor that a student disappeared bloodily into the woods sixteen years earlier. As if things aren't complicated enough, the cutest boy from Miranda's old school comes to Bard, and is casting plenty of attention her way.Does Miranda have time for dating and ghostbusting? She's about to find out.Suspenseful, chilling, and excellently written, this book will have you looking at old classics in a new light.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting approach
After Miranda Tate wrecks her father's BMW and maxes out her stepmother's credit card, she is sent to Bard Academy, a boarding school on Shipwreck Island, Maine. With its Gothic setting, Bard Academy could be straight out of one of the classic novels to which Cara Lockwood is indebted: Wuthering Heights, Dracula, and Frankenstein.

Sammy Keyes and the Psycho Kitty Queen was written by Wendlin Van Draanen. It all started when Sammy found a dead cat in the dumpster. She thought a lot about the cats after she found another one in the garbage. After her own cat went missing, Sammy had to see what was going on.

5-0 out of 5 stars science fiction and history in one place
This is the first book I have read in this series, but it is still enjoyable on its own. It is well written, flows well, and kids will learn a lot of history without it being overdone. It has enough gross factor to appeal to boys, but not so much to turn off parents or a female reader (one of the secondary characters, who tells part of the story, is a girl). It will encourage kids to pick up the next book in the series... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Clearly On The Mark!
This is my third novel by Mark Roeder. All three of the novels I have read are a part of the Gay Youth Chronicles. Additionally, I read "The Soccer Field Is Empty" and "A Better Place" (see my reviews). Ideally you should read the Chronicles in the order they were written. This story tells us of the struggle to deal with ones sexuality. As a man who dealt with these issues many years ago I can testify to the fact that Mr. Roeder is clearly on the mark in his writing about the experience. Throughout the novel there is a sub-plot whereas someone is leaving threatening notes to the main character, Ethan. This makes for a real page turner as the reader is anxious to see from where these threats originate. I am anxious to get a hold of the next novel in the series "The Summer of My Discontent". I highly recommend "Someone Is Watching" you most absolutely will not be disappointed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive
While I accept it does portrait quite well the anguish of a boy discovering he is gay and of unrequited love, the prose is absolutely inmature, simplistic in a way that could be acceptable in dialogue(which arent any better) but not in a character that age that is writting. It cannot be excused as the flow of the boy`s conscience either.
2-0 out of 5 stars An improvement over his first book
If nothing else, the slimmer page-count in this volume made it a much quicker read than his previous book "The Soccer Field Is Empty."The dialogue was still more than a little stilted, and some of the amazing deus ex machinas lead me to roll my eyes.

Editorial Review

It only took one little tab of LSD to open the mental door 17-year-old Evan Barrett slammed shut the night his parents disappeared beneath the ocean eight years ago. As he unknowingly ingested the drug put into his drink as a prank, the whole horrible evening unfolded again: the violent storm, the frantic mayday from his parents that came through on the family’s ship-to-shore radio, the hopelessness of knowing that there was nothing he or his older brother Emmett could do. Now that the demons of his past have been re-awakened, Evan must confront his fear by discovering once and for all what really happened to his parents. Was it a botched attempt to fake their deaths due to an imminent drug-smuggling investigation by the DEA, as pragmatic Emmett believes? Or something more other-worldly? Ever since he was little, Evan has heard stories about a shrieking, ship-eating sea hag who lies in wait for victims off the Jersey shore. Called Ella Diablo Agujero by the locals, Evan simply knows her as The She. Could her scream have been the last thing his parents ever heard? Evan is determined to find out, come hell, high water, or both. While Carol Plum-Ucci’s writing style is often overly verbose and dialogue-heavy, adolescents nevertheless continue to be drawn to her complex mysteries that, like Read more

Carol Plum-Ucci has established a niche for her mysteries by blending realism and the unexplained. Following upon the success of THE BODY OF CHRISTOPHER CREED and WHAT HAPPENED TO LANI GARVER?, the author penned a credible tale that is part problem novel and part supernatural thriller. THE SHE takes the reader to familiar territory in young adult fiction--death, drug abuse, rebellion against authority, and dysfunctional families--while also presenting a haunting overtone that prevails from the first page to the last.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh...
It was an okay book. About a bunch of teens having a birthday party on a remote island. Most people leave the house then when returning one girl finds a surprize in the kitchen. The main problem in this book was that R.L. Stine tried to put too much suspense in it and it sort of gets old. just buy a used copy for a penny for reading when you have nothing else to do. I reccomend that you get the babysitter 1 by R.L. It's one of my favorites! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
This was a good book, but it could be better. It took them 150 pages to get to Alices party.Nothing bad happened before that.We learned about people for 150 pages.Once it got to the end though, the book pcked up.A few other good books by Mr.Pike are Monster, Bury me Deep, Whisper of death, The Evil Heart, and Remember me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Decent young adult thriller
Once again, Christopher Pike brings us into a world in which a roomful of attractive high schoolers have to figure out who among them is the murderer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Book!
It was a neat book. Nancy and George go on a wilderness trek and when things get suspicious, Nancy calles in the Hardys. It had lots of excitement though it didn't really have any romance. I especially like theway they meet. It's funny. I also like when they were in they raft. Icouldn't put it down and I definatly reccomend it.-RJG,12

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
I've read both volume 1 and 2 of Urasawa's Monster and find it excellent. Even if you are not a fan of manga, and you find a little odd reading "backwards", these books worth it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Aimed low.
This is a sophisticated story styled more for the preteen - the Older Teen rating applied for a couple of shootings. It's a story that could have enjoyed a more thorough and mature treatment, but whatever, it's Urasawa's baby from ten years ago. From the very start the unusually pure protagonist doctor's moon-eyed adoration by both patient and colleague is little short of the sort reserved for superheroes, a constant in a story whose every character shows signs of Personality Static Disorder. And if the mental acuity of a self-congratulatory federal inspector may have the police investigator nodding in admiration, it suggests more the deluded logic of an early Inspector Clouseau.

4-0 out of 5 stars Maybe You Have to Be Older ...
I'm extremely fond of MONSTER (from the anime) ... but does it occur to NO ONE that it's really only a very clever paraphrase of THE FUGITIVE? (THE FUGITIVE was, in turn, a present-day gloss on LES MISERABLES, but at least series creator Roy Huggins admitted so right up front.) Maybe one has to be old enough to remember the 1960s TV series to make the connection, but it's not a casual one ...
