5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!!!
This book was probobly the best book I have ever read.I would encourage every christian family to read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing...
The Gaurdian was simply amazing. I read this book a year ago and I couldn't put it down. It's creepy and "out there" from the very start. When I first brought this book home I hid it from my mom....it's not exactly a cuddly Sunday school story, after all;-)5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
This book is absolutley great. It works on so many levels... and all the while staying true to its Christian roots.I remember reading this book in 6th grade (I am a Sophmore now) and not being able to put it down.It just grabs you and pulls you into this deep and compeling story.Everything works so well because it is coming from a Christian point of view and it makes you see God's power through the characters. It also is a very chilling book, and doesn't let a horror fan down. While the content actually can get very morbid at times (alot of talk of death and the after life, plus a girl floating above her bed ala Exorcist). It scared me in 6th grade and I was already a vey big horror fan, and I rarely got scared by a book.If you are a Christian (or interested in Christianity) pick this book up.It shows that you can be way out there and still be a Christian. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lois Duncan at her best
This book, in my opinion, is suberb. It's not in any way like the movie, besides the name, the note, and the four characters. In the movie, they hit a fisherman, meh, no biggy, he's old enough. But in the book, they hit a little boy, who had so much of his life left, that just makes the crime seem more sinister. In the movie, two of the teenagers die, and how? Basically the same as the rest of the victims in all the series, with a hook. Atleast in the book, even though no one died, they were hurt in different ways, strangled, shot, etc. Plus, the victims in the movie are almost all innocent, but in the book, the only victims are the ones who COMMITED the crime, not people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
3-0 out of 5 stars And you should be ashamed
As this thriller opens high school senior Julie discovers that she has been accepted into a prestigious East Coast college, but in the same mail came cryptic message 'I know what you did last summer'.Unfortunately Julie knows all to well what the message refers to.Last summer Julie, her boyfriend and another couple had been in a hit and run accident, an accident that had killed a little boy.The four teens had decided not to come forward and take responsibility for the accident. It was a decision that they had all come to regret but one that they felt they could not change now.But now it seemed that someone else knew their secret.
5-0 out of 5 stars I Know
On that horrible night in July a terrible thing happened.Something everyone wanted to forget, but it still came back to haunt them. The inhabitants of that car were Barry Cox (driver), his girlfriend Helen Rivers, (backseat) Raymond Bronson, and Julia James. That night Barry was driving too fast around curves on the mountain trail and right out of nowhere was little David Gregg, who unfortunately was hit by the vehicle. The group of them decided to call nine one-one and not to leave a name or even go back to see if the boy was all right.Everyone tried to forget until the next year when all four of them received letters or newspaper clippings about the event. Then Barry received a phone call saying `I know what you did last summer involving a bike and a car, and if you don't come to the stadium and meet me under the bleachers and buy them from me, I'm going to send the pictures to the Gregg's.'But, when Barry was on his way to the stadium he was shot and a bullet cut through his stomach and was lodged in his spine.Barry was in the hospital for a long time and when Ray came to ask him who had called him that night he said it was a girl he had been dating for a while. Then later Helen and guy named Collie were swimming in the pool and Collie got out early and Helen got out later and went up to her apartment, and when she got there Collie was sitting in a purple chair and he said that he was going to kill his date that night and Helen figured out that he was going to kill Julie. The phone rang giving Helen enough diversion to get to the bathroom where she called for help, and when no one helped her she jumped out the window. Then Bud continued on his way to see Julie. But Mrs. James had a "feeling" about something and didn't want Julie to go on the date, but when Bud got there he told Helen that he was Collie and that his brother was David, and then everything went black for her until she was revived and sirens were pulling up.They dissolved the pact and decided to tell the cops everything from the beginning. I really liked this book because it was a little intense and was very good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Little History in This "Historical" Mystery
I had hoped to use this book in my high-school history class but found that it does little in terms of imparting a solid sense of what life was like in ancient Rome. The mystery portion is okay, but my real disappointment stems from the weakness of the historical contextualization.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ides of April, review from a teenager
I think that Mary Ray is a wonderful author and writer, with a great imagination a descriptive skills.5-0 out of 5 stars Well!Only three other reviews...?!

2-0 out of 5 stars You'll need a seatbelt, this is one bumpy ride!
WOW!That was a whirlwind of chaos and loose ends never tied up.
2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't care for the characterizations
This book seemed pretty flat to me, compared to the characters on the TV show.Especially the sub-plot surrounding Spike. There was a lot "happening" in this book, but I couldn't be moved to care much.Unlike the show, where you can go from tears to laughing out loud in a heartbeat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I heard these were coming out, and it was approaching my birthday of last June, I got thise and play tickets from my mom after serious begging. She bought me them as soon as each one came out, funny thing is my best friend who doestn live at all close to me, got me the first one. But this is on the third one, it was a very well written book. The scenes between Buffy and Angel were pricless and touch the b/a shippers heart. A problem was of how much Buffy acted as if she loved Riley more than anything of the world, and Angel was past, why he dreamed about her and their forgotten day. Otherwise it is a good read, as a fan of either show, or the B/A or even b/r(gag) relationship. Just one thing to people who read my review or somethign that would never happen Nancy and Jeff read this, what the hell happend to Spike?! Is there a new crossover triogly in the making*looks hopeful* ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHAT AN INCREDIBLE BOOK!!!
In this book "The Stepsister", you will read horrible things that will keep you reading for hours. Maybe even days! Usually when I start to read a book, I never finish it. But this book, once I started to read it... I could not stop reading it! In this book Emily Casey is the main character and her mom is getting married to her soon to be step dad. He and his two kids, Jesse and Rich are moving in with Emily and her family. They soon move in and not even two days later, weird things begin to happen to Emily. Changes... So far her and Jesse have not gotten along so far at all. Jesse for no reason is doing all these evil things to Emily!! Emily just knows it's her! Jesse puts peroxide in her shampoo to change her hair color, she tries to steal her boyfriend, and thats not all! Death taking things happen! If you want to find out what happens, then you should read this book. If you like twisted, evil, back-stabbing books... Well then what are you waiting for! Read this book! I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Provoking not only tension but anger and sorrow, this is more than a thriller
The first time I read this book I was not only tense; I was angry and a little disappointed.I wanted to shake people like George Corrigan, April's weak father and Max, his childhood friend, the FBI agent who talks George into working for him.His comment "I can usually talk George into anything" and George's explanation to April for his actions illustrate the control that a stronger person has over a weaker one.I understand George's actions after his character is revealed, but I still couldn't help saying to myself "What a stupid man!"It is obvious where April gets her naive streak from!As for Max, you would think he'd treat his childhood friend better.I wondered if his attitude is typical of FBI agents.
4-0 out of 5 stars Just finished this in one sitting, as I .....
couldn't put it down. For readers who enjoy a good suspense story that keeps you literally hanging on to every word, waiting to see what happends next, this one's for you.April's life changes overnight when she and her family are forced to enter the Federal Witness Protection Program to save their lives.April is a very unwilling participant in this whole move, and spends her days trying to figure a way out, a way to contact her boyfriend, a way to go back to her former life. Unfortunately, April--now known as Valerie--learns that this is not going to happen any time soon, if at all.How Valerie responds to this realization is what makes the story so appealing. She is a believable character, not perfect, and her flaws make the plot more exciting.
5-0 out of 5 stars The first book to make me cry and realize the power of the written word!
I read this book in 9th grade only because I had already read everything else my english teacher had and I just expected it to be like any other thriller...I was wrong. This book keeps you interested the whole way through and it really feels as if you are the main character April. By the time I read this book i was a seasoned reader and yet this was the first book to make me cry. You feel so much for April and how she is betrayed by her boyfriend and best friend. You imagine how it is if this happened to you and if you had to give up your love and your passions. I refound this book after i went through some boxes, and the last two pages still took my breath away, expecially now that I'm older and have the love of my life and hobbies i persue with a passion which i cannot bear to imagine if it was taken away. This is a must-read at any age and definitely a re-read as well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Annoying
So many people have rated this book high, but I'm going to go in another direction.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Book Readers Will Remember
I probably passed this book a hundred times in the library and heard about it half as many through online recommendations. For some reason, the premise of the book seemed rather boring and over-done to me from the summary. I can honestly say that I've never been more delighted to have been proved wrong.

2-0 out of 5 stars SEWER THIEF
After falling through a skylight while escaping from his latest burglary, the thief known only as Prisoner 493 begins a new life from the end of another. When the authorities and most medical minds give up on any chance of 493's broken body being mended, Dr. Farcett, a cutting edge surgeon, believes that he can save the thief from death! Over the course of a year, Farcett is able to nurse the man back to full health, but gets a little carried away by performing procedures just to satisfy his own curiosity! 493 is even put on display at scientific meetings much like scenes from The Elephant Man and poked and prodded like a lab specimen. Even through the humiliation, 493 is able to pick up a semi-education from the scientist's discourse at these gatherings and it is there that he learns of the construction of an elaborate sewer complex that carries all of the human waste of London out to the river and then to the sea. 493 comes up with the brillant idea of using the sewers as a means to move quickly and secretly through the city, allowing him to rob any home or business at his leisure with a quick escape route always near. When he gets out of prison, he puts his plans into action and assumes a dual identity, one being the wealthy aristocrat Montmorency, and the other being Scarper, the scumbag servant of Montmorency.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Victorian adventure with an intriguing title character
I snapped up this paperback at a bargain price in the "young adult" department of the bookstore--though I'm mystified by its "young adult" label, since it's a perfectly good read (a ripping yarn!) for all ages--and it turned out to be such a satisfying story of the Victorian underworld and high society that I immediately went out to snap up the sequel, which I'm happily reading at the moment. Long live Montmorency!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but could have been excellent
*3 stars* (I can't edit the review to change my rating...made a mistake...)

5-0 out of 5 stars You will devour this book!
"There are some kinds of trouble you never see coming," is the opening line that instantly drew me into the pages of this gripping mystery.Through the voice of 14-year-old Lucy Martinez, I was quickly pulled into the unpredictable twists and turns of this fast paced plot.Broach cleverly chooses the stunningly raw beauty of the New Mexico desert as a backdrop to highlight the development of her characters as they discover the body of a dead girl along the road and the page turning journey that follows. And without being heavy handed, this dramatic road trip invites a thoughtful exploration of the equally dramatic journey from adolescence to adulthood that would make great fodder for teen discussion. But it is Broach's fluid writing style, zooming in and out like the lens of a camera, capturing with blind-siding surprise each new twist and turn, that ultimately creates such a believable and hugely entertaining story. You won't want to put this one down! ... This book is good, but not as funny as some of Wendelin's other books.Sammy is a strong character, as always, and I especially liked the way the teacher goes nuts after her bird disappears, Sammy feels quite guilty about that.It was a very pleasant read, but the mystery part itself wasn't all that compelling, and for me it wasn't laugh-out loud funny like the Art of Deception, but it's definitely at par with other Sammy Keyes books. It features a strong moral in terms of sticking up for what's right even when it's the tough choice.Wendelin's Shredderman series is hilarious and Flipped is also a really good book, whereas this book features some fun pirate talk but not much in the way of the funny and embarrassing teen romance scenes that cropped up in the Art of Deception, and the mystery bit is never tense or particularly exciting.Four stars is maybe even a bit much for this book, 3.5 is probably more like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Argh!Join Sammy and her pirate friends!
The Sammy Keyes series just keeps getting better. In this newest installment, we have a great twist. For once, Sammy ISN'T blamed for something that happens and Heather, her archenemy, is.This book begins and, as the others in the series have proved, has the reader along for a wild ride for the remainder of the story.

3-0 out of 5 stars Door to Alternity
"Door to Alternity" continues the "Unseen" triligy with the connection between missing children in L.A. and monsters appearing in droves in Sunnydale becoming clearer.Team Angel and The Scobbie Gang are working harder than ever as they try to solve the mysteries and keep the monsters under control. Also the reason for all these strange occurences becomes clear; it dates back to a Cold War science experiment by the KGB to alter reality, all for the glory of the State. Now it is being used to try to blackmail prominant U.S. citizens to bring back the glory days. Also a gang war brakes out between the Mexican Mob and the Russians. All of this makes for a very complicated story, there is a lot going on.Sometimes it gets a little confusing, but never so bad you can't follow the story. It was ok, but certainly suffering from being the bridge book. You have a lot of information and set up for the last book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't Believe What the Author's Trying to Say
Um.I really liked the idea of this book, and when I started it I had very high hopes for it.The idea of a boy with an interest in genetics that's somehow connected to his past sounded so original compared to the slews of books that conform perfectly to the stereotypical demands of their respective genres (for example, the sword-and-magic-wielding fantasy hero who grew up on some country farm, or the teenager trying to get over the death of a parent and find who he/she truly is in the process) that I thought it had to be good.I was devastated when I turned out to be wrong.
4-0 out of 5 stars great read!
Double Helix was very entertaining, suspenseful, and...real. I felt connected to the characters and enjoyed reading it the whole way through. It had a lot of interesting twists, and I just could not stop reading it. It is a great book teens--both boys & girls.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okay Book (husky student)
When a drunk 18 year old boy sends an email asking for a job with a famous scientist things go wrong. His dad keeps on telling him not to take the job but he does any way. He finds out lots of secrets about his mom with Huntington's disease and he finds out he has siblings who were test subjects. I think this book is okay but it has lots of scientific things that some people won't understand. I think if you are in 8th grade or up you might enjoy it more. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars FAV BOOK SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL
When I was in middle school, Lois Duncan's Stanger With My Face, was my all time favorite book. Every time they had a new L.D. book, I made it my business to check it out!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Review!
This book was very interesting and it is a real page turner. This book had some weird twist to it that you just wanted to find out what happened next. This book is about these two twin's who were separated at birth. One of the twin's went to an adoption agency and the other went to a great family. In the original family they had this special power where you can astral project. This is a rare ability but this family, except the good twin, used it for sinister intentions.Astral projection is where your soul leaves your body but you are still alive...until the "cord" that keeps you attached to your body breaks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slow until the end
Okay I have to say all in all this book was slow and boring until the last three chapters where you're left wanting to know what will happen.

Editorial Review

The folks on Hackett Island, near Philadelphia, are not too friendly tonewcomers. Anyone the slightest bit different is eyed with suspicion, as Clairefound out when she missed a year of junior high due to leukemia. Now she workshard at fitting in, following treacherous but popular Macy's lead, hiding herpassion for the guitar, and never talking about her fear that her illness willreturn. Or her nightmares. Or her eating disorder. The boys of Hackett Island's"in" crowd are members of the "fish frat"--hunky sons of the localfishermen--and their horseplay even among themselves is brutal andedge-of-danger.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Well paced and well-developed characters
WHTLG centers around an androgynous young man whose worldy views and other-worldly behavior both fascinate and unsettle freshman cheerleader, Claire McKenzie.Though Claire has been through alot--she's in remission from leukemia, her parents have divorced, and her mother is an alcoholic--Claire wants to ignore the nightmares she has every night, the gruesome lyrics that pop into her head when she's practicing her guitar, and the dizzy spells shegets when she "forgets too eat." Claire wants to forget the year or so she missed of junior high and focus on fitting in with the popular and dangerous crowd who have come to include her. Lani Garver, on the other hand, intrigues her from the first time she sees him the cafeteria, with his girl/boy looks and vague answers. Her best friend, Macy, wants her to forget Lani as a freak, but Claire can't help noticing that he's pretty nice, extremely well-read, and tremendously compassionate--all qualities her "friends" don't share.
5-0 out of 5 stars It is so good!!!!!!!!
What Happened to Lani Garver is a very touching book.Beause it is about A boy that looks like a boy or girl and he helps Clair a girl with a troubled mom.She also has had cancer and then she gets another sickness.Lani helps her relize things that she never would of and helps her put her life back together one step at a time!
