1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I loved the first three Dark Secrets books, and when this one came out, I was looking forward to reading it.Elizabeth Chandler is a very good author, and it's nice that in her series she enters in elements of the supernatural.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book with a Unpredictable Ending
Dark Secrets: The Deep End of Fear by Elizabeth Chandler is one of the best mystery books.I had never read a mystery book that I couldn't put down the book once I start reading it.The story sets in Westbrook estate, Wisteria, Maryland, and the main character is Kate Venerelli.Dark Secrets: The Deep End of Fear is about a young girl, Kate, has been supposedly lured into drowning incident a few years before the actual story begins.Twelve years ago Kate's family left the Westbrook estate, just after Ashley Westbrook drowned in an icy pond. Now Kate, alone in the world, has returned to the estate.Kate, the hired, full- time tutor, tutors another spoiled Westbrook child, Patrick. It gives the impression that the young girl comes back to haunt them, because Patrick seems to have some connection since Kate has been tutoring him.He does deadly, dangerous things, such as diving into a drained pool, because he says, "Ashley dared me to."Just as Ashley once dared Kate twelve years ago.But at seventeen, "Ashley" or unfriendly members of her family or the forbidding housekeeper do not easily threaten Kate. Then Sam, the high school hockey team member, reveals a tragic link that connects him to Kate.Sam tells Kate to leave Westbrook estate immediately, but she will not abandon Patrick to the evil.In my opinion, this novel has a great story plot and will keep you hooked for hours. The climax or the best part of the story is when the friendly Joseph discloses himself as the indirect murderer of Ashley, and Ashley's grandfather, Adrian, is the person who hires Joseph.I think teens that like mystery books would best appreciate this book. Before reading this book, I had selected three other books, and found them dreary. Then, I had chosen this book to read for this assignment, because two of my classmates that had chosen other books from this series highly recommend it to me.I had also read the other books from the series too, after I finished this book.Compare to the other books, this book has the best story plot, but the story goes in the slowest pace of all. Therefore, I think the author needs more revision on keeping the story to flow faster.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stupendous
This is simply outstanding, the characters are rich and captivating. The plot is unusually intriguing and the fright-factor is perfect. I absolutely love this book and would reccomend it to just about anyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding mystery...
I was a big fan of the original Premonitions novel, and had originally figured that Jordan Cray would have a difficult time topping herself.Sequels that outstrip their successors are so rare and hard to come by, it's such a refreshing breath of fresh air to find a novel that meets and exceeds all the expectations held by fans of the original, while at the same time maintaining the overall tone and feel of the original.Gracie is still the quiet but intelligent leading gal that she was the first time around, and her visions are still going to get her in trouble.Like all good sequels though, Disappearance raises the stakes, and Gracie's father reappears after thirteen years of absence around the same time as a dead body is uncovered in the water and Gracie's island home is turned upside down. With the help of her computer hacker friend Ryan, (man, he sure seems like a cool guy, and he's so nice too!) Gracie's visions make her the only person who has a chance to simultaneously get to the bottom of both mysteries.Disappearance was a wonderful, unpredictable thrill ride all the way through, full of brilliant twists and turns and equally brilliant and well-drawn characters. The two main story arcs of the book - Gracie and her father, and Gracie and the murder - intertwine slowly but ingeniously, and where they take the reader, you won't know until the very last minute.
5-0 out of 5 stars A sequel even better than the original
Gracie from PREMONITIONS has returned with her visions. This time, though, she sees a murder from the murderer's eyes. If that isn't creepy enough, Gracie's father comes back into her life after 13 years of not seeing or hearing from him. She's still struggling with grief from her mother's death two years ago, and adjusting to living with her aunt Shay and cousin Diego.

5-0 out of 5 stars bookreader
about a year ago my sister brought me this book to read saying it sounded good. i read it and it stayed in my mind for quite awhile. just recently i happen to see it in paperback and sent for it from amazon. it is a book that makes you think and wonder if ever someone did bring things home to save them. i would love to live in a big house and acreage and not care for the ugly world our leaders have created. this is a book for people who want to escape to a beautiful place of mystery and nature. children of all ages to 100 years old will enjoy this wonderful sensitive story of a young man finding his place in the world. mysterious animals and an old amazon indian caretaker of secrets. the mysterious moonflower, bugwomps, murra-yari, silkwomps, tigerwomps and other womp mammals that give the setting of a whole new world on an estate behind locked gates. it just took a boy and his inquisitive nature and love and care to make this a delightful book to save through the years for each generation to read. the end pages bring another chapter to stephen's life which would be an interesting sequal. but life is full of mystery and we can just believe stephen's legacy still lives on.

2-0 out of 5 stars Medicine but no sugar.
"The Valley of Secrets" certainly looks like a promising read from the outside, and on the inside it has a story which is both familiar (nondescript English orphan discovers a fantastic destiny elsewhere) and differentiated by virtue of its location in Cornwall and its author's concern with the continuing deforestation of the Amazon basin.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story about a young girl's life in Rome.
Flavia Gemina, hasn't heard of her father for four months. He is a sea captain and the last time she saw him was when he headed west on his spice ship. So Flavia is rather shocked when a mute and old-looking man ends up on her doorstep, happening to be her father. Moments of shock pass, and Flavia learns that she is about to lose everything that she owns. Running away with her three friends, Flavia finds herself on a beach, where treasure seemingly lies. This was a memorable and interesting new and good book to this fantastic series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, Even For Adults!
I enjoyed Paul Bajoria's "The Printer's Devil."It may have been intended as a book for a juvenile audience, but this 54-year-old thought it was a blast.
1-0 out of 5 stars A Waste of Time
In The Printer's Devil, Bajoria has strung together a confusing, unlikely and almost random sequence of events producing a "plot" that fails to provide either satisfaction or resolution. As for the sequel--I don't think so! Fool me once, shame on you.Fool me twice, shame on me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Charming
This is my favorite book of all time. Anyone who doesn't like this book has the mental capacity of a three year old, judging by most of the bad review's spelling and grammar. However, it may not be appropriate for children under the age of nine...I'm twelve, as it does have some references to drugs, and the twists are a bit advanced. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful psychological thriller.
I'd like to start my review by saying that I am currently twenty-five years old and I still have a copy of this book on my shelf.
4-0 out of 5 stars A surprising read
I'll admit it. I'm actually not a fan of Cooney's. I find her stories to be trite and two-dimensional for the most part (not to mention that - speaking as someone with bipolar disorder - I find her portrayals of the mental health community in many of her books to be rather questionable at best in their accuracy) and yet I am a huge fan of this series and have been since its release. To me this series was where she started to show the maturity you find in her more recent writings instead of the R.L.Stine-esque saw-it-coming-a-mile-away pulp horror books that kept me entertained in like the fourth grade. I'm twenty-five and I still reread this series time and again.
3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay...
It was all right of a book... well, I'd say more exciting than the first two, but some parts still dragged a bit. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Idaho teen bookclub review
This book was not up to the reading standards of the Book Bandits teen bookclub in Meridian, Idaho. There was no empathy between readers and the characters, the plot was totally predictable, the characters were not developed fully, and the entire story did not capture the attention of the readers. The cover art wasn't very compelling either. The group suggests that you read Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew stories as a mystery alternative.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Haunting,
Do you love suspense? The type of suspense that leaves you bitting your nails? Then you'll love Joan Lowery Nixon's "The Haunting".

5-0 out of 5 stars delightful thriller
A hundred years or so have passed since the pandemic Great Flood devastated the world.Few places survived its destruction as well as Basle, a city in which air particles created by sorcerers prevent crime from happening due to the particles "keeping" a check on citizens.Threre are no major crimes until now.The city is suddenly inundated by homicides.Murder should not have occurred because of the air yet killings did and are becoming frequent.

5-0 out of 5 stars spectaculer.......... the only word for this book
The twelve tasks of Flavia Gemina is yet another book written by my favourite author Caroline Lawrence. To Flavia, it looks like her pater has finally found true love.... once again. But thats not all..... Flavia's found love too... but most young girls would fall in love with smone young but Flavia's found love with aolder man.... Will he ever find out? What will happen to Flavia's Father? will he get married...??..? its all up to you to find out by readin' the book. It's a great book

3-0 out of 5 stars Starts out excellently, then fizzles
I just wrote a rather long review for this, then it disappeared so I'll make this rewrite short. My daughter and I love the Roman Mystery books, and were really enjoying this one until the whole mystery turned out to be a non issue and (SPOILER) they killed off a female character that Flavia had just bonded with so touchingly. My daughter was outraged. For myself, I'm so tired of children's books and Disney movies with their dead mothers, this seemed like a great opportunity to go against the tide, but apparently Lawrence chose not to take it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Seance
The Séance by Joan Lowery Nixon is a very interesting book. It is a mixture of feelings. It is mysterious, happy, and sad. I highly recommend this book. As I was reading it, I could picture what the author wrote. He words were so beautifully written, that I could see what was happening in my head. I never wanted to put this book down. The book wasn't predictable like most books that I have read. When I did try to predict what was going to happen next, I couldn't. I tried to predict the murder; I thought I was 100% right but it turns out it was the last person you would expect! It was so shocking!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition to the 'Missing Persons' Series
Missing person prodigies, Sam and Sophie Shattenberg have just taken their third case since becoming pint-size detectives. The two girls are investigating a strange ring of pet-nappers plaguing the small town of Venice, Indiana; while at the same time they're trying to track down Jack, the son of their boss, and resident Private Investigator - when he's on the wagon - Gus. However, their investigations into Jack's disappearance are being kept quiet, so as not to upset their boss and get them fired. Soon the two girls get a few leads, and head out to Las Vegas, where they're finding nothing but dead ends, until lady luck shines her light on them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly enjoyable series
After reading the first and second mysteries in this series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the third, and I am now waiting impatiently for the fourth. These books are really enjoyable, and I especially like the fact that they do not talk down to the teen audience they are directed at.True, I'm not in that teen audience anymore, but that didn't stop me from being thoroughly delighted with these books.I would highly recommend them as gifts for young teen readers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Baffled by the young adult rating
What exactly is that, I wonder, the young adult rating? This novel has young adults having pre-marital sex, has brains splattered, people murdered, racial hatred - and not really played down to any level below adult.I don't understand this being classified as a young adult novel. As an adult novel, it suffers from repetitious melodramatic reviews of the events in the book through the thoughts of character after character in scene after scene, confusing the fact there's probalby a novella here, maybe even just a novelette, fluffed out with a bunch of angsty introspection on the part of the characters that goes on and on to no end.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gets you thinking.......
I have read this book twice.Once on my own and again for a school assignment.I used this book because we had to get a book that was universally appealing which this book is.It speaks to many people about one of the most serious conflict that we face in this world. It thought it was an extremely great book that everyone can learn from.It has a scientific appeal to it that makes the reader interested as it did me.I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be on their seat while reading this.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book, But Not 5 Stars
I watch the television series Smallville faithfully along with my book club. Then we review the books. While Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfeld are the better writers in the Smallville book series, this one was not a 5 stars. The book is noble in pointing out the evils of racism.Kudos to the authors for that. The problem is we're in the mindset of the racist classmate the majority of the time, rather than in the mindset of Clark, Lana, Lex, or anyone else. This is a little too much to see his perspective. But, like most of the Bennett and Gottesfeld books, it is well-crafted and true to the Smallville characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really good book
So far in the smallville series I thought this one was one of the better ones. I like the storyline. They did a really good job on the characters. One think I didn't like was it was hard to figure out which season the story took. I think it was in the second season right after Whitney left.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Funny but 4 Stars
This book is basically about a boy who is a big time racist and he receives an hourglass from his racist dad for his birthday. When ever he flips the glass, he can pierce the fabric of time (he can move at super fast speed like Clark Kent). This new found power allows him to commit hate crimes without ever getting caught. And with a multicultural celebration coming up in Smallville, it is up to Clark to prevent the bad boy from ruining it for everyone. ...
