5-0 out of 5 stars There are maybe... no, wait, I'm wrong.
There is nothing better than this, my all time favorite book. With great characters, and a wonderful plot, there is very little more a good reader could want. It has emotion, action, and still maintains great writing. You have a main character who is easy to fall in love with, for all her faults, and her other half, the other main character, who you also come to love with all your heart. The story keeps moving, and doesn't get boring for a second, because even in the less interesting parts, it's not boring, just less interesting than the brilliant other parts. The story itself is great and amazing, and every other synonym.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting storyline
Fantasy not being my favorite, I found this one very good.I listened to it on audio CD, and it is read by a whole cast, not just one person doing different voices.A young girl is thrust into a harrowing adventure that she never expected. She lives in a world where each human has a demon, and civilization seems to be run by the "church".This story is very tense and exciting, going from one unexpected incident to the next with a very flowing narrative.

5-0 out of 5 stars This's been my favorite book for 8 years
If you're an easily offended religious fanatic who's always looking for the vaguest insult or contradiction to your beliefs... I guess you shouldn't read this. (Actually, you could probably read this one and just skip the sequels.)

Editorial Review

Does Jerry Renault dare to disturb the universe? You wouldn't think that his refusal to sell chocolates during his school's fundraiser would create such a stir, but it does; it's as if the whole school comes apart at the seams. To some, Jerry is a hero, but to others, he becomes a scapegoat--a target for their pent-up hatred. And Jerry? He's just trying to stand up for what he believes, but perhaps there is no way for him to escape becoming a pawn in this game of control; students are pitted against other students, fighting for honor--or are they fighting for their lives? In 1974, author Robert Cormier dared to disturb our universe when this book was first published. And now, with a new introduction by the celebrated author, Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars beautifully written
The "Thief Lord" is a wonderful contemporary story full of loss, beauty, adventure and a little bit of magic.Cornelia Funke's book has one several literary prizes and even bumped Harry Potter off the best sellers list in Germany and Northern Europe for a time.It never talks down to kids and is engaging to adults as well. The imagery of Venice is dead-on (just like I remembered) and the characters(Prosepero, Scipio) are richly portrayed. This is a story that is light on the fantastic but heavy on imagery and imagination just like the classics!

5-0 out of 5 stars Warriors Series
The Warriors series is the best series in the world! It's suspenseful and full of action. After each chapter is a new problem to think of. Betrayal, romance, action, and humor are found throughout the book. In the Warriors: The Darkest Hour, Bluestar is dead and Firestar is now leader of ThunderClan and with Tigerstar leader of ShadowClan, there's going to be problems. Tigerstar has formed with RiverClan to create TigerClan. A new threat grows in the forest though, stronger than TigerClan.

Bluestar has been killed, So Fireheart has become leader of Thunderclan. When he is receiving nine lives from Starclan (like heaven), Dead Bluestar tell that four will two, Tiger and lion will battle, and blood will rule the forest. Mean while Tigerstar want more power so he hires Bloodclan to attack Thunderclan. But Bloodclan kills Tigerstar and then attacks Thunderclan. There is a raging battle and you have to read the book to figure out who wins! I think it is the best of the six because it has suspense and action.

4-0 out of 5 stars the book that is really sad and makes you cry!!
The book Olive's Ocean has a lot of detells and I can understand it a lot. I think you should read it because it is funny and in some parts of the book it might make you cry. In some parts of the book it was kind of boing and some parts it feels like you are right in the book with the characters. The chapters are not that long and I like short chapters because I do not like reading a lot at once. The was about a girl that dies and her name is Olive. Martha wrights a story about Olive while she is at her grandmother's house. Martha does not know how to tell her parents that she likes to wright. Martha finds out that there is this kid that likes her but he really does not. Martha thinks Jimmy like her but his brother Tate really is the one who likes her.

4-0 out of 5 stars An important teen read with beautiful black and white illustrations
Teenager Jesse is writing the autobiography of his childhood friend and "blood brother" Rise, in a series of sketches, portraits, and comic strips from their times together.Rise is a little older than Jesse and is starting to be pulled in by the allure of the protection of gangs and the easy money of drugs. His biographer, Jesse, is confused by the change in his friend, and by Rise's attempts to turn the local boys' club into a street gang at war with neighborhood rivals.Given the title of the novel, one can only guess what the outcome of Rise's foray into drugs, guns, crime, and the power struggle is going to be.
4-0 out of 5 stars The comic of Spodi Roti and Wise was brilliant.
This was an enthralling read. I liked the depth of this book and it painted a realistic portrait of poverty and gang life. The best part of this book was the incorporation of the comics and illustrations into the plot. The comic of Spodi Roti and Wise was brilliant. I also liked how most of the main characters in this book were not gang members or looking to be involved in gangs but simply wanted to survive long enough to explore their talents in music and artistry. It's nice to have a book about poverty and class that doesn't stereotype but gives a more realistic and in-depth picture.

Editorial Review

A huge, old house with secret tunnels, a cantankerous caretaker, and buried treasure is a dream-come-true for 13-year-old Thomas. The fact that it's reputedly haunted only adds to its appeal! As soon as his family moves in, Thomas senses something strange about the Civil War era house, which used to be a critical stop on the Underground Railroad. With the help of his father, he learns about the abolitionists and escaping slaves who kept the Underground Railroad running. While on his own, he explores the hidden passageways in and under the house, piecing clues together in an increasingly dangerous quest for the truth about the past. Newbery medalist Virginia Hamilton creates a heart-pounding adventure with this absorbing classic for older readers. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An interesting and exciting book.
When I first picked up this book i thought it would be borring and confusing. It turned out to be quite the opposite. The story follows Thomas a young boy who has to move from his home in the south to Ohio because of his fathers new job.He is not moving to any ordinary house however but the house of Dies Drear, a former conductor on the underground railroad who let slaves hide in his house until they were able to out into freedom.Rumor has it that the house is haunted which really scares young Thomas into believing the house taker Pluto is devil. Many events that follow help Thomas think that Pluto is trying to scare them out of the house, but he couldn't have been more wrong. There are many twist and turns that will have you on the edge of the seat and nothing is what it seems. This was a very enjoyable book and will be a good read for people who love mystery, suspence, and adventure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mystery andHistory!!!!!!!
This a great book for grown people and for young adults. My friend Kristen gave me this book for my 9th birthday and I am 13 know It is so good I reed it every birth day that I have. The book has mystery, spunk, and pazzaz all in one. This book is my favorite one yet. If you like to learn about history bout not about how sad somethings were you realy despritley need to reed this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars House of Cheesy, 1-Dimensional Over-Writing
I completely and totally dislike The House of Dies Drear. The characters, had no depth, and were one-dimensional, the dialogue was stiff, and robot-like, and there was nothing in the book that I could relate to. I consider the book to be quite anti-climactic, lacking a major turning point in which the readers are supposed to be enthralled in. It had no twists, about two cliff-hangers, and was completely predictable. It was, in fact, probably one of the worst books that I have ever read. On a scale of five, I'd have to rate it a two, because as I said, it did have a couple of cheesy cliffhangers, but nothing that left me satisfied with the book that I have read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars True Fantasy!!
How can one describe these books?? They are some of the greatest fantasy I have ever seen (and I read a lot!).The scenes of Death...in the Old Kingdom...especially the characters of Mogget and the Disreputable Dog in _Lirael_ and _Abhorsen_ are all fantastic and imaginative.Words cannot describe it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely and strong
This trilogy is satisfying and surprising in the strength of its female characters while never losing sight of a good story.Fantasy at its finest...you get parallel worlds, magic, mundanity, and misunderstanding, but not to comic effect, rather to catastrophic endings.

Today, it is harder than ever to find fiction that stirs the imagination and the soul."The Final Storm" does just that. After two incredible volumes preceding it, the story finally comes to an end.Our main characters' lives and adventures are inseperably intertwined now and the fate of their lives and the kingdom of Alleble rests on them.Yet never fear, the Great King reminds us that we are "never alone!"Incredible rescues!Enchanting new races and characters.Love, revenge and redemption.Reading this story will feed your soul, enchant your mind and leave you hungering for more.Don't miss out on a trilogy that truly is destined to be a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories
I enjoyed the book The Giver By: Lois Lowry. The Giver is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a community that everything is the same. Jonas is selected to be the new reciever of memories, which is an extremely important job. The receiver of memories holds all of the memories of the past so the community doesn't have to bear them. As Jonas takes on these memories the excitement begins. I enjoyed the characters in the Giver because they were different and interesting. I loved the plot because it was exciting and suspenceful. The Giver is one of a triolgy of books. The second is called Gathering Blue and the last is The Messenger, they are all relitivily related.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Giver
Lois Lowry's eye opening novel, The Giver, really does make you think, ''Is the grass greener on the other side?''
5-0 out of 5 stars VHS Class Giver Review- Benton Wilson
The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is an excellent work of literature. It presents a stunning example of a futuristic, dystopian society where all facets of life are controlled by various rules and regulations in an easily readable format. Jonas, the novel's protagonist, is chosen by the council to become the successor to the Giver, a man whose job is to mentally store the collective memories of society. The book focuses on situations such as a society without individuality, the importance of choice, and how people react to finding out that the accepted truths of their world were at one point not the case. Ms. Lowry uses chilling imagery, such as the lack of color, the inability of most people to love, and the unemotional "release" of those who don't fit into the government's carefully laid out plans for a perfect society to establish a mood that, while somewhat bleak, is not entirely without hope. The story picks up as it progresses, shifting to a more tense, but still equally atmospheric, form. This tension is skillfully maintained until the story's conclusion. I would heartily recommend this story to all those who enjoy fictional works that focus on either individualism vs. society or potential visions of the future.

I simply loved this book because of its wonderful writing and tender handling of a delicate subject. The story tells a tale of a young man raising a child and tells the story in a loving way. I really enjoyed reading the story and the way it was told. Johnson really seems to empathize with "children having children" and gives the reader a positive role model as a young boy learns what it is to be a father. She writes beautifully as she tells the tale and the tale is a very good one. I highly recommend this book to middle school children.

4-0 out of 5 stars almost
Like the previous four books in the series, a great deal of adventure is experienced. The primitive living in this book is similar to the first book, but still is unique.

In this story, Alex Rider's uncle dies in what the police call a car accident. He lived with his uncle, so he went to examine the car that he died in and saw that it full of shotgun bullet holes. Then, someone calls Alex to meet him at a bank.Alex finds out that the bank that his uncle was working at was accually a secret agent agency. He gets hired on to the agency to continue the work that his uncle started. He discovers that the stormbreaker computers contained a deadly disease that the owner was planning on using to kill all of the students in Great Brittain.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Suspenseful Page Turner
If you like an action packed page-turner, Stormbreaker written by Anthony Horowitz will be a spectacular choice for you. Alex Rider is 14-year-old kid just like you and me, wrong! Alex is an intelligent, physically fit M16 agent on his first mission in the book Stormbreaker. The setting is London, England in present day. Alex in his first mission must go undercover to find out what is fishy about mysterious computer tycoon Harold Sayle. Alex has to discover the suspicious computer mystery but only has limited time to do so. Will he have enough time and how will he respond to getting his feet wet in M16 agency? This book is very fun and will keep you on the edge of your seat while reading it. Although the ending is not very strong the rest of the story makes up for it. I would give this book 8 out of 10 stars and recommend this story for boys between the ages of 10 and 15.

4-0 out of 5 stars The past returns
The Sohma family saga grows darker as another tragic story is exposed: Rin Sohma, the horse girl. The fourteenth volume of "Fruits Basket" is one of Natsuki Takaya's darkest stories yet, but she quickly tops it with a pair of lighter-hearted school stories, which promise to cause more comic hijinks in the future.
4-0 out of 5 stars Torn
If you are a fan of the books thus far I highly reccamend it, though to be honest the story feels a bit flat. Unlike the other volumes of furuba the special spark of this book seems to be dwindling, this is somewhat noticable in volume 13 but becomes painfully evident in this volume. The energy and pull that made furuba so appealing seems to be going with age. If you've read the books up till now you'll know what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong it is still a great read, I was happy to finally see something about Rin. Her melodramitic style standoff-ish attitude leaves the readers labeling her as twisted and after you read her story this opinion may deepen for some readers. However this was not true in my case, it may be hard for some readers to understand but if you really focus on Rin's point of veiw it adds much more depth to her character. Besides that the second focus of this volume is centered around yet a another student council story(yuki fans rejoice). It does cause a few questions to arise and a possible (romantic?) connection between two of the student council members (if you read as much manga as I do you should be able to figure out who I'm talking about, if not just keep reading because they'll probably hook-up) Also the friendship between Yuki and Kakeru is pleasing for two main reasons one being that Yuki is finally secure enough for a real human connection. It also suggest that one day he may also be able to accept Ayame. Other than that there is a small lead up to the next part of the story involing Kyo as a prince and Hanajima as Cinderella(these are two of my favorite characters so this ALMOST made up for the lack of Kyo in this volume, because it means he will be in the next...in a smexy costume^^). Scary, no? It also had a cliffhanger that left me feeling torn, the reason for this being it changes the entire flow of the book and damages earlier perceptions of the characters feelings leaving the reader a bit rattled.(please keep in mind I'm a Kyo fan, and this cliffhanger is based on a revelation that YUKI has but it's not what you think.) So I am forced to give this book a four, though the story is advancing it does drag a bit and lacks some of the natual human relations that I beleive accounted for that "special spark" I mentioned early. But over all a great read if not as good as the others.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good addition to a Furuba collection
This book, while not my favorite one in the series (Kyo doesn't appear much in it) is still a good addition. This volume is largely about Rin, but ends with a chapter or two about Yuki and the student counsil. His true feelings for Tohru revealed, with a cliffhanger that will leave you counting the days till 15 comes out (why does there have to be a FOUR MONTH wait between each volume? It kills me XP) ...
