Editorial Review

"I had no illusions about love... It came, it went, it left casualtiesor it didn't. People weren't meant to be together forever, regardless of whatthe songs say." Remy doesn't believe in love. And why should she? Her romancenovelist mother is working on her fifth marriage, and her father, a '70s hippiesinger, left her with only a one-hit wonder song to remember him by. Every timeRemy hears "This Lullaby," it feels like "a bruise that never quite healedright." "Wherever you may go / I will let you down / But this lullaby playson..." Never without a boyfriend, Remy is a compulsive dater, but before a guycan go all "Ken" on her (as in "ultra boyfriend behavior") she cuts him off, without ever getting close or getting hurt. That's why she's stunned whenklutzy, quirky, alterna-band boy Dexter inserts himself into her life andrefuses to leave. Remy's been accepted to Stanford, and she plans on having herusual summer fling before tying up the loose ends of her pre-college life andheading for the coast. Except Dexter's not following Remy's tried-and-true rulesof break-up protocol. And for the first time, Remy's questioning whether or notshe wants him to.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sarah Dessen Does it Again
Monkey see, Monkey don't, or at least that is what Remy does when she looks at all of her mom's relationships. It is husband number five for the constant bride, and about the millionth boyfriend for Remy. Remy is what I would call the master at breaking up, partly because she does it every time she thinks she could fall for a guy. Unlike her mom , who, has fallen in "love" 5 times.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Hopeless Romantics
This is a fantastic, easy read for everyone who has ever felt like giving up on love or anyone who wants love.Every time I start this book I end up staying up late several nights in a row (much to the dismay of my bosses the next day), unable to put this book down.Remy is a wonderful character that seems to talk directly to the reader and Dexter is the wonderful guy that every girl dreams of falling in love with. This book is worth your time and energy. You really won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Average Summer Romance
Remy Starr, the eighteen year old perfectionist, always thought she had the guys figured out. For every guy, she'd have the same old routine, winning their heart and then sending them on their way like her mother who was marrying for the fifth time. Just graduating from high school, the summer is on her way which means a typical summer romance. But her usual routine is thrown off when she meets Dexter, a crazy, curly haired, not-your-average guy. Even though has a "no musicians" rule, she lets it slide for once and gives the guy a chance, finding she really likes him. Afraid to get attached, she ends it but realizes she made a mistake.

4-0 out of 5 stars The -List
Anna Percy is sick of following the "good girl" handbook. She is bored with her perfect grades and perfect prep school life. She would rather do something spontaneous and dangerous with her time. So she jets off to LA to her super rich dads house. On the plane she will meet Ben, from Princeton, who she just might love and in the next twenty-four hours she will go to an Oscar winners wedding, go to two parties, do something she just might regret and meet the Beverly hills a-list, Cammie, Dee, and Sam. The A-List are the rudest people in the world but there will be a surprise with their backgrounds and her present. She got on their bad side as soon as she stepped onto the plane and met Ben. But that is what she wanted isn't it, a crazy life with many imperfections and not to be liked by everyone. Maybe she doesn't want it after all.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not on my A-list
I read this after the Gossip Girl series, and after I finished reading the A-list, I didn't find it as biting as Gossip Girl. It didn't pull me in like I had expected it to. the A-list is a good book, it's fun and sexy, but the characters aren't as interesting. I wasn't crazy how they were all fighting over the same boy, I was sort of hoping it would be like Gossip Girl where they all have different stories going on at the same time. But whenever the book moved on to a different character, they were all thinking about the boy they liked. So it is a pretty good book, but i'm still deciding whether to move on in the series

4-0 out of 5 stars What a good book!
When you see the title, The A-List, and a picture of a girl in a bikini on the cover, you may think: oh no, not another Mean Girls wannabee. However, the book, in the end, has a touching ending. The story is about a girl, and she is traveling to LA to visit her dad. When she gets there, she meets the boy of her dreams, and three mean girls who are determined to stop her. The girl learns a lot about herself and her family as they all go through traumatic incidences. I gave this book 4 stars because I feel that Zoey Dean has perhaps recycled a little of her plot from other stories. But, she does a very good job with the rest of story, giving it an ending that makes the story worthwhile. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I LOOOOOVE the gossip girl series! They are one of my favorite series out there. I actually have all of them and like them all. This is my favorite of them just because. They leave you at the end with so much suspense and it makes you want to go out and purchase #9. And that's just what I did! The BEST book EVER!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars PARENTS BEWARE!!!!
Parents BEWARE!!!The author uses very strong profanity throughout her "trashy" (my opinion) books.Do we really want our young teens or even young adults reading stuff that is littered with the grand-daddy of all cuss words?I sure hope not, I'd like to think that we still have good morals and values to pass along to the next generation.Check it out for yourself...she uses "f" like it is nothing at all throughout the whole book.Go check it out at any bookstore!I have had her books removed from our school library as well as our local public library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nothing Can Keep us Together
Another fantastic novel by Cecily! I loved this book. I read til 1:00 every night because I just couldn't put it down! This was definitely one of my favorites because throughout (basicly) the whole book, Serena and Nate were together. Although they're not my favorite couple, it's much better than just having Nate put with some random girl. Truthfully, I would have loved to see more of Blair-less of Serena. I just like Blair the best. I'm actually going to be quite relieved if Jenny isn't in the books anymore. I'm not HER biggest fan! But I really did like this book. Except, the kiss at the end was kind of uncalled for... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars do you like a stories inside a greater story?
The story King Arthur, which was written by Roger Lancelyn Green, is a truly exhilarating adventure set in the middle ages, and it contained many fascinating characters such as King Arthur, who was the king of Logres and who was one of the most important characters in the story; another character is Lancelot who was one of the best Knights of the round table and went on many quests, bringing much honor to Logres, and was quite important through out the book; another character would be Queen Morgana le Fay, she was not only a witch, but also the sister and nemesis of King Arthur, she often tried to capture or kill him and his knights, but in the end she makes peace with him; last but not least is Merlin, he is one of the best know characters, he is a wizard who saves King Arthur life twice, and foretells the future many a time; eventually he is buried alive by Lady Nimue until he is needed once again.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you needed to know about King Arthur but were afraid to ask!
This was the first King Arthur book I ever had. In more recent years I've read Le Morte D'Arthur, the Mabinogion, Bulfinch's Age of Chivalry, and a hundred othercollections, some for children and some for adults. This is still the best-written, most comprehensive version I've found.
1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL ARTHUR!!!
This book was the worst!!! I usually enjoy reading books, but I didn't enjoy one little microscopic segment of this book!!!It was really hard to understand, and it felt like that all Roger Lancelyn Green cared about was death!! I mean really in one chapter I counted that 12 people died!!! In one single chapter!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars gossip girl series
I have read all of the gossip girl books up to "your the one that i want,"in the past week. I cannot keep myslef out of those books.I just bought the next one "nobody does it better" yesterday and already almost done with it.When is the series going to end? I have already read the it girl, notorius, andreckless, they were very good books as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars i'm addicted to these books!
The books are great. I read through them really fast because they were so good i just couldn't put them down.I had to find out what was gonna happen next. I would highly suggest reading them. There however is some swearing and talk about sex, drugs, and alcohol though but i cant imagine what the books would be like without it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for light reading
These books are great for light reading- nothing serious, but just to take your mind off of all your homework, sort of reading. They're fun, and I find most teenage girls can relate to the bouncy, glamourous and impossibly rich characters' feelings. However, girls should recognize that many of the issues talked about in this book- sex, eating disorders, academics- are much more serious than these books make them sound. When reading these books, be sure to keep in mind that this is far from reality- only a fun escape from some of the more mundane activities in real life. Similar books I'd recommend are Bergdorf Blondes, Georgia Nicolson series, and Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, funny, and not "chick-lit" at all!
John Green has done it again! An Abundance of Katherines is lighter than Looking for Alaska, but the characters are just as engaging and the action, in some ways, more believable.
5-0 out of 5 stars smart and funny
From third grade through his senior year of high school, Colin Singleton, child prodigy, has dated nineteen girls. All of them have been named Katherine (anagrammed in the rake; ie, her tank), and all of them have dumped him.Not for the same reasons, and not in the same way.Katherine XVIII dumped him in an email, for example. And K-19 dumped him immediately after graduation. Now, faced with a Katherine-less summer, Colin and his best friend, Hassan, decide to take a road trip. They are short-stopped in Gutshot, Tennessee, home to Archduke Franz Ferdinand's grave, with a job offer.Since there are no Katherines in sight, only Lindseys and Katrinas, the two boys settle in for the summer to interview textile workers, and, in Colin's case, come up with a mathematical formula for predicting the end result of a romantic relationship -- his Eureka moment.Layered with fun and funky characters, anagrams, formulas, flashbacks, and footnotes, this complex yet easy-to-read novel is not only compelling, but one of the smartest novels I've read in a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Little Choppy, But Decent
I should preface this by saying that as 30something adult, I don't seek out "YA" (young adult, aka teen) fiction for my leisure reading. In the case of this book, I didn't realize it was a YA title until I was already hooked, and since I'm a fan of quirky coming-of-age novels, it pretty much fit right into my comfort zone. The story is about recent high-school graduate Colin. A former child prodigy, he is now merely another smart teenager with underdeveloped social skills and a yearning to leave his intellectual mark on the world. With the summer between high school and college to kill, he's also heartbroken because his girlfriend, Katherine, just dumped him. Actually, she's the nineteenth Katherine to sever relations with Colin (hence the title) -- although one of the book's enduring mysteries is how someone as neurotic as Colin manages to have relations with 3, let alone 19 girls, whatever they may be named. Eleven year-old Margaret wonders about growing up and religon in this well-written book. Margaret's feelings are portrayed delightfully in her talks to God. She is caught imbetween teenager and child, wishing for puberty to come faster. I think Judy Blume did an excellent job in creating a character much like a normal preteen. She has feelings for boys, has her best friends close to her heart, and is growing up like any other girl. She is sometimes embarassed by her parents, and just wants to become a teenager as fast as her friends are.
5-0 out of 5 stars Forever remembered
What a gem! A good book is one that we can not forget 30 years later. This novel is timeless. Readers can identify with ever aspect of what happens to Margaret as she enters the strange and intriguing journey into adolescence. There are moments of every girl's life that mark her entry into "womanhood." This book captures them all. Its innocence is beautiful as it approaches the preteen years with humor, depth and candor. What a marvelous book. Even though times have changed and readers have countless options of preteen books, this book surpasses them all.

4-0 out of 5 stars A bit dated but good

3-0 out of 5 stars Whirligig review
Whirligig by Paul Fleischman is about Brent a high school senior who is new to town he was at a party trying to gain acceptance from the popular kids especially Brianna the girl he liked. When he tried to talk to her but she just rejected him. Drunk and angry he drove off in attempt to commit suicide by crashing his car into on coming traffic but he fails instead he kills a girl named Lea. Tormented by this tragic incident all he can think about is what he has done. When he goes to court to face trial Lea's mother wants to have a meeting with him. At the meeting Lea's mother asks Brent to make whirligigs that look like Lea in the four corners of The United States. On this journey Brent makes these whirligigs and affects many people without even meeting them which is karass. This book shows the way each person is connected and how you can affect people, Brent affected many people with his creations like a violinist and a holocaust surviver. On his trip he has time to think about what he has done and how he can find himself. At the beginning he has troble with getting over the fact that he killed someone so he keeps to himself and doesn't talk to anyone. But once he realizes that its in the past and he need to get he job done which is building the whirligigs he feels better. When he makes the whirligigs he feels like that he matters and that he is making a difference. He tries to make them look like Lea in remembrance of her. His whirligig creations are very creative and he spends a lot of time thinking about them and making them. This book is difficult to understand from the beginning because of the different settings in each chapter but once the book comes to a close it brings it all together. ... Read more

This is the young reader's version of the Odyssey, with every chapter a new adventure, most in 6-8 pages. In each chapter there is a terrific line such as "Heroes are made when retreat is cut off," or "Bad luck makes good stories."As a middle school teacher I use those key lines as focal points for each day's reading. This is one of my all-time favorite books for young adoescents.

Editorial Review

It was only a slap. Well, maybe more than one. And maybe Nick used his fist at the end when the anger got out of control. But his girlfriend Caitlin deserved it--hadn't she defied him by singing in the school talent show when he had forbidden her to display herself like that? Even though he'd told her that everybody would laugh at her because she couldn't sing and was a fat slob? Both were lies. Because Caitlin was so beautiful, the only person who understood him. Out of his desperate need for her came all the mean words and the hitting. But now Caitlin's family has procured a restraining order to keep Nick away, and the judge has sentenced him to Mario Ortega's Family Violence class, to sit around every week with six other angry guys who hit their girlfriends. And to write a journal explaining how he got into this mess.Read more

The fourth book in the series has the same idea as the first three but has a wicked, sudden ending. It gets you ready to begin the fifth book as soon as you've finished.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book! It's amazing!
I love this book. I have read this book in three different languages (german, english and french). It's a completley heartwarming story and not only for kids! This book has a lot of great quotes like:
5-0 out of 5 stars Innocent and true- he came from a star
_This is the sort of tale that a person writes when he steps back and takes an objective look at civilization. This was the point of view of the author, stranded as he was in the Sahara with a broken aeroplane and on the edge of life and death. It was there and then that he met the only person in his life that he was ever really able to talk to- the apparition of the Little Prince.

5-0 out of 5 stars IdentityCrisis...
Ellie Harris has never been one of the popular kids, so whenWill Wagner, captain of the football team and class president at Avalon High, becomes strangely drawn to her, Ellie begins to wonder if she's moved into the twilight zone and not justto Annapolis. If having Will after her wasn't weird enough Ellie begins seeingsimilarities between the students of Avalon High and the characters in the old King Arthur legends.CouldWill's beautiful girlfriend, Jennifer, be Queen Guinevere?Well, his best friend, Lance, sure would fit the bill for Lancelot. When life at Avalon High starts playing out just like the legend, Ellie becomes concerned for Will's life and even her own. Isn't she named after Elaine of Shalott, who ends up killing herself at the end of the poem?!
4-0 out of 5 stars Arthurian Legend comes to Annapolis, MD
In Avalon High, Meg Cabot brings the legend of King Arthur and The Lady of Shalott to a present day high school in Annapolis, MD.Ellie is disappointed when her scholar parents go on sabbatical forcing her to relocate from Minnesota to Annapolis her junior year of high school. Her parents are both experts in medieval history, even going so far as to name Ellie Elaine after the Tennyson poem "The Lady of Shalott."
5-0 out of 5 stars modern arthurian legend
For Elaine Harris, and every other child of a college professor, sabbatical is a dirty word. Her parents have decided they are going to spend the year in the Washington, D.C., area, which, even if everyone speaks English unlike some sabbaticals, is nothing like home in Minnesota.Ellie's parents aren't at all sympathetic, even though her life is hard enough, being the daughter of medieval scholars and being named after a fictional woman who killed herself over Lancelot. When Ellie starts school at Avalon High, it seems to be a typical high school. There's Lance, the huge, sometimes jerky, jock. Will, the class president who everyone loves, and Jennifer, the blonde cheerleader and Will's girlfriend. But as Ellie gets to know Will, and the rest of the students, she realizes that maybe Avalon High isn't so ordinary after all, and she finds herself in some extraordinary circumstances. As loath as she is to admit it, her parent's knowledge on Arthurian legend just might come in handy. This modern twist on an old-time classic employs Meg Cabot's usual humor and wit, and realistic, lovable characters. It will be enjoyed by Arthur fans and neophytes alike. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Another fun witchy read.
I'm a huge fan of Sarah Mlynowski and I loved 'Bras and Broomsticks' (the first book - this is the sequel). I thought that this sequel would get better than the first, but I guess nothing will beat it. This has the same humor and witchy goodness as the first and you'll surely enjoy it if you're a fan of Mlynowski as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars Frogs and French Kisses
Okay, after reading Bras and broomsticks i couldn't wait until this book came out!!!! Finishing it in one day, i loved this book. Normally sequels aren't always the best but this one was a sequel that was just as good as the first. To me it wasn't better than the first but i loved it just the same. If your a fan of sarah mlynowski and have/want to read bras and broomsticks then i would definetly suggest picking up this book right after you finish the first!
