1-0 out of 5 stars busy, wordy and uninspiring
I got this book for my foster teens but tossed it in the recycling bin instead. The book is full of chatter; the authors never get to the point.Plus all the illustrations, boxes and fonts, which I guess are supposed to be hip, give you a headache. I did plog through this quagmire long enough to confirm the authors weren't saying anything that would inspire a kid, so it's just as well they slathered it with window dressing. The book dies have a catchy cover, which I assume is designed to attract parents, not kids.Heck, I bought it.

4-0 out of 5 stars bit much for my 12 year old
My 12 year old got bored with it, she's probably too young for this book.I am hoping she will pick it up in a year or so. I thought it was interesting and usefull.

4-0 out of 5 stars The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective TEENS
This book: The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective TEENS, included many wonderful/helpful ideas, wich i used and enjoyed on my own. This book is what i call a guidance book. That helps in my eyes young teens who have problems in highly effective areas. This book basically shows you how to develope good habbits, it makes you become a better person, working on your personality and bad habits. the author gave you his fathers seven habbits to success in all parts of life. The author Sean Covey, put it in a fun and easy way to understand the point of this wonderful book. This book was actually a slight help to both me and my mother. I learned to work things out with her, and agree on things easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective and Relaxing
The belly breathing, affirmations, relaxation get my kids calm! The four stories are just the right length to keep their attention and get them to do actual stressmanagement techniques. The author never tells the children what to do or that they are being taught. The kids just follow the stories and characters along and learn to manage their own anxiety with actual techniques.
1-0 out of 5 stars SAVE YOUR MONEY
I purchased this cd for my four year old a few months ago and disliked it enough to bother to write my first review of anything i've ever ordered through the internet."Bedtime stories" is a misnomer. There is no story content. After the first few lines read by the narrator, I found that her unnaturally slow, moronic verse didn't have a relaxing or somnulent effect but did, ironically, irritate me.I sat quietly listenting to the cd until my daughter asked me to turn it off-- only a few minutes into the cd.I skipped through the cd to see if it got better-- it did not. I suppose the point is to bore the child to sleep, but neither I nor my daughter could bear to listen to the "stories."This was the first item that I've ever puchased on-line for which i felt truly RIPPED-OFF.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 7 HELPFUL Habits for Teens
This book is great! Teenagers can really relate to this kind of stuff! The book is jam packed with pictures, quotes, and best of all the best advice a teenager could get!5-0 out of 5 stars A College-Student's Review of"7 Habits ... Teens"
* * * * * FIVE STARS! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! * * * * *Last summer I found this book on my younger brother's desk--a gift to him from our mother. As an eighteen-year-old college student, I thought the writing would be "too young" for me. NOPE! I read the book and it has significantly changed my views of myself, others, and the world. On another note, I liked the book so much that I decided to check out 'the original,' Sean's father's book (7 Habits of ... *people*): the verdict: I personally found the book for Teens a MUCH better read. Sean's writing style is concise and very visual, making it easy to understand, enjoyable, and fun. The anecdotes and stories are universally applicable--despite racial, economic, etc. backgrounds (or even age!).He doesn't waste time getting to the point, taking a single paragraph to introduce a new concept, and then supporting it with two or three stories, anecdotes, or quotations; and yes, there are even pictures too! The end product is something that is VERY enjoyable, practicable, and has helpful. If you have ANY doubts about whether or not to read this book, I would say that if you are even looking into it enough to read this review, you and someone you know can greatly benefit from the ideas in this book. Of course self-change is scary and difficult, but this book makes it fun and easy. It's helped me to not only improve my own life, but also that of my younger brother, guiding me to be a better role model for him. When I first found this book I had made fun of it, but as soon as I had begun reading, I was hooked [or as the book would have me say, "I hooked myself..."] Thanks Sean (and Stephen) for your contribution(s)! [And thanks Mom, too...]: - )

5-0 out of 5 stars A very interesting, and lifechanging book
I have personally read this book, and ( as a 13 year old), it has drasticly changed my life. There are passages in this book that told me things about myself I never knew. Like this " I'f who I am, is what I have, and what I have is lost, who am I ?" I no longer feal that money or impotance should matter in my life. I should live it accourding to my life, and not by the will of others. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring!
I lent this book to my MIL before I read it but told her not to tell me about it or her thoughts on it until after I read it. I couldn't get passed the 2nd chapter. I found myself skipping pages that soon. I asked her if she liked it and she said she skipped a lot of pages also and found it to be very repetitive and boring. In my honest opinion it is one of the most boring books I have picked up. It just reads BORING!!

4-0 out of 5 stars The dark side of Amish
Very interesting look into the little know practice of rumspringa, during which the Amish allow their teenagers to experience the dangerous temptations of "the English."We usually believe the Amish are rather naive and simple; in truth, they can be just as wild as non-Amish youths. The clinical analysis tended to be rather dry, but the portraits of the Amish youth were fascinating.

2-0 out of 5 stars not really about rumspringa
I was very surprised that the editor of this book allowed it to be hyped as a book about rumspringa.A very small percentage of the book is about this teenage Amish tradition. The rest is about Amish life in general (farming, faith, etc.), which, while interesting, is not about the moral conflicts teenagers face.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Anxiety Book EVER!
My seven year old has made a complete turn around since we started this work book. She finally feels empowered!!!!She understands that worries are like a "bully" that should be told to scram! We are truly thrilled! If you are really feeling the struggle of having a child with some anxiety/worry issues you must buy this book.I bought heaps of books last week and this is definitely the stand out.Today (the 23rd day of school) was the first day that she went into school with a smile on her face!Thank you, Ms. Huebner!Thank you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This book served not only as a wonderful reference, but also provoked various discussions between my [...] son, my husband and myself. It's written in a manner that was easy for my son to understand and it continues to hold his interest. We haven't finished with it as of yet, but so far it has provided us with another avenue in dealing with our child's anxiety issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house!
This and "Once Upon a Potty" are my son's (age 2) favorites. It's a great potty book, and personally, I think it's a plus that it's unclear whether the child in the story is a boy or a girl - that just means either gender will easily be able to relate. As for whether it encourages toddlers to use the potty, I think it does. Whenever we read this, my son shouts "Diapers off!" and flies to the potty chair. One thing that's a real positive about this is that it's a bit long. That's been a help keeping my son sitting on the potty longer without being distracted by a toy or a noise or whatever. I'd highly recommend A Potty for Me for anyone looking to start or add to their potty training toolbox.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great potty book!
My son (2 years) has loved this book for months. In fact, our family has memorized it now, we have read it so many times.I like how it written on a child's level and emphasized that the most important part of the whole potty learning process is that the child feel good about his/her accomplishments!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's all in how you know your child will respond...
I have a little boy who will be 3 very soon.He is now at the stage where he tells me when to change poopy diapers, so I know that he is now entering the potty training stage. When looking for a book on encouraging the "potty" concept, I was so delighted to find a Karen Katz book.My child has two Katz books previous to this and loves the illustrations and easy language.Previous books were very instrumental in his grasp of sharing and not hitting. So it led me to purchase this book on potty training. So far, my son has LOVED the book and requests for me to read it over and over.He also is applying the concepts in the book to our visits to the big potty.

4-0 out of 5 stars should be part of every pet-loving child's and adult's library
this book really helped me get over the loss of my beloved pet fish, Mr. Furious. Well, not "get over"- those who've loved animals know there is no "getting over" the loss of a dearly departed pet. There is only solace in the good memories we have of them. I enjoyed this lovely book. It gave a very warm and hopeful portrait of the after life. I intend to buy a copy for myself and for my young niece who recently lost her favorite kitty. Sylvia is a terrific author!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for children with loss of pet
This book is great if you have children who has lost a pet or a loved one that has a hard time coping with a loss of their pet. They do a wonderful job easing the pain and explain that our pets will also be on the other side for us.The loss of our pets are similar to a loss of a person, we interact with each on a daily basis. If any of you have pets then you know each one has their own personality and are the closest thing to angels. They protect us and always have unconditional love for us. The book is full of drawing and pictures for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book answers a lot of questions!

4-0 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup for everyone!
This book was very inspiring, and informative on many matters in the life of teens. I thought this book was great and not only had fun reading it, but I also learned from it. I learned mistakes of other people, and many great lessons of life. While some stories were sad, others were cute, and happy. There are a wide variety of different stories that all contribute to the overall greatness of the book!

Editorial Review

Richard Carlson has written numerous books encouraging folks not to"sweat the small stuff", and his title for teens is as warm, wise, and witty ashis previous works. His tone is one of an older family friend who manages toadvise while still maintaining the minimum level of coolness that teens requirefrom those who intend to guide them into adulthood. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars better than i thought
When my grandma first gave me this book, I thought it was gonna be another useless book saying "just be yourself" and all that [...]. But this book actually has substance and I was surprised that I actually got something out of it. Recommended to any teen on the "emotional roller coaster" who needs some guidance in their life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I always read books I get for my daughter first to confirm that I got her something right/good for her. This one is no doubt a winner. The titles of each chapter were catching enough to make you curious as to what you were about to read and then the story you read were a great explanation to the sometimes funny and odd titles. The story in each chapter was absolutely great. They were short enough to keep any kids attention, make a good lesson and walk away feeling good that you learned something new and were inspired. The really great thing is, my 13 year old who usually complains about sitting still and reading because she'd rather be actively playing sports, isn't complaining a bit about winding down and reading this book. She loves that most chapters are only 2-3 pages each, but even better, she is mimicking what they are teaching and I'm loving it, too, as a mom. This is a great read, a great inspiration and a lot of the stories are what these kids can relate to.I plan to buy it as a gift to others, but I'm not sure if I should get it for the parents or the kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Read!
This book definently helped me to chill out with certain struggles and people in my life. This book is a wonderful read for teenagers, because it suggests, not tells, how teenagers take things, and how they should act in certain situations. I would definently recommend this book to any teenager, or parents of their teenagers, who are struggling to find themselves, and also who are struggling in dealing with life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Uplifting for all
I really enjoyed reading this book being a teenager myself. It was very inspirational and touching. It is a good book for teenagers in any situation. I think it would be good for parents to read this book also because they could have a better understanding of what their teenager might be going through. This book talked about issues that are harder to talk about. It provides anonymous help lines for teenagers in need. The tops range from life to death. It is a very uplifting book for all.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! This book was soo amazing, I couldn't stop reading it! This book made me realize that I should be greatful to have such a awesome life and there are others out there that have hard times. To all those people who wrote there stories in the book I'm inspired by what they had to go through. All teens will love it but I have to warn you there are many sad parts and are very powerful so I think you should think about it first. If you're sure you want to buy it well go, you won't be dissapionted!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is an excellent book for girls who don't have an older sibling that could tell them about their experience through puberty. It is also great for teens entering middle school. During elementary school, there arent many cliques around but in middle school, you'll see cliques EVERYWHERE,and I mean everywhere. this book will teache the child how to deal with the attitudes of the people in the clique, and not to be ashamed of who they are.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute for those under 15
This book is extremely cute-for those under the age of 15. I bought this book when I was 12 and I'm 17 now. Some of the things have stuck with me. Like how to find your power stance and how to plunge a toliet (don't ask). But as I look through it now there's alot of things that seem like they will be good advice but are just obvious. Almost ever section and topic is very blunt and striaght forward. Like the "Be in Charge of Your Financial Life" is quite obvious with the five steps as 1. Earn More 2. Spend Less 3. Save Sufficiently 4. Invest Wisely and 5. Give Generously. And that was as about as indebth as you get. So overall it really didn't grab my attention and bored me.

1-0 out of 5 stars My Mistake
I was hoping, without going to a bookstore and completely looking through it, that this would be a benficial book for my 13 year old.Instead it put her in tears.Instead of accepting themselves as who they are and how they look, they bring kids to the conclusion that they cannot be OK if they break out.My daughter was very upset and all I could do was apologize. If you are looking for a book that wants to compress your daughter into the current fashions and mainstream, maybe this is for you, then again, I strongly believe that my daughter is special and that this has not helped her self-confidence or her understanding of all the changes happening.Personally, I do not want my daughter caught up in all of the latest makeup and dress, I want her to be able to wear what she is comfortable in and feel comfortable in her own skin.Next time I will review any books I get for her much closer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars **TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.
5-0 out of 5 stars shut up!
well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

4-0 out of 5 stars What About Multi-Talented Teens?
It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself.I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!)There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Helper for Working with Youth
This book is easy to read. I like the format and the design of the book. The author speaks clearly and in language that is understandable without the help of a dictionary.Fantastic book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I've come to know how important it is to meet the needs of today's youth. There are some youth struggling in areas where we may have not struggled and getting solid information to minister to these youth is vital. This book provides that information!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Vital for Christian Leadership
This book is probably the best I've seen on the subject of counselling. As a teacher I have found this book useful in teaching on counselling as well as applying the principles to life situations. The book is titled, "counselling youth" but most problems that exist in adults are rooted in their youth. I have found that these principles are not only in young people but also apply to adults and their situations. Depression, anxiety, suicide etc don't vary too much with age. This book doesn't focus too much of roots of problems but does very well in dealing with the fruits. People who want to deal with the roots, read materials by John and Paula Sandford. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
This may be a good book, but the price is outrageous. You are not buying a book, but rather copied pages into a ringed binder. And it is very small. Also, if your child is dealing with anger the last thing you want to give him is a flimsy book he can just get angry at and rip up so easily. That's the first thing my son did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic
I bought this book for my daughter, who has been having anger management problems at school recently. After working through the sessions together, she seems to be able to talk about her feelings much more easily now rather than just acting on them. She is starting to make friends at school and her schoolwork is improving too. Just fantastic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Extemely helpful workbook for adolescents and pre-adolescent

5-0 out of 5 stars A great motivator
I bought this for my teenage daughter and could see a big improvement after she read it. This book contains information that will help provide the foundation for skills needed throughout her adult life. I only wish that I had found this for my oldest daughter who has since gone off to college. If it didn't have the word "teenager" in it I'd send her a copy.

4-0 out of 5 stars This book can really help you get organized.....
Lately, many teenagers feel like they under the same crunch as their parents to get everything done (school, homework, friends, chores, jobs, etc.), and yet still want free time- and this book can really help you get your work done and still have a life, at the same time. The way that Julie Morgenstern writes this book is different than your typical organizing book- because it helps you to create an organizational system that caters to your personal needs, not someone else's. Julie states that since every teen as different hobbies, interests, activities, etc., their usage of time and the way their bedroom is organized will also be different.
5-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative approach to dealing with grief
I work in an Alternative HS and have found that my students who most would think the book looks "corney" have requested copies of the book after looking through it.I like the fact that it addresses issues of anger that the adolescent may have (or may not even realize they have) towards the deceased.I work with high-risk youth and the family dynamics are always so complex.I also like the fact that it addresses changes that the adolescent will have to make and doesn't "sugar coat" things. But, it pays respect to the deceased in a tasteful way, and it is way for the adolescent to write memories/stories he/she might forget.5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
This is a wonderful Journal for kids.On my first read through I felt it was geared a little more toward 9 to 13 year olds, rather than older teens. However, the content is excellent and the ideas and exercises will really help grieving teens work through the difficult grief process.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent choice for ANYONE suffering a loss.
I ordered this journal for my two teen-aged daughters, both of whom were suffering greatly with the loss of my mother, their grandmother. The book is a wonderful aid in helping them express all the things they were afraidto vocalize. It allows them to write down their thoughts and feelings onsuch subjects as what they were doing when they found out the person haddied, unresolved issues with the person who died and how they would likethem to be resolved now, where they believe their loved one is now, and howthe future will be without the person they love. It allows the teen to seethat they are not alone in their grief, that others have the same thoughtsas they do. I highly reccommend this book to ANYONE who is experiencingloss in their life. It leads you gently through the entire grievingprocess-I can't say enough about how it helped us through a very difficulttime in our lives. ... Read more
