The Greatest: Muhammad Ali (The Greatest)
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book for kids
I bought this book for my fifth grader for a report he did on Ali.He enjoyed the book and pictures very much; to the point that he became quite interested in Ali's life (beyond just boxing). The boook was easy to read, not too long, and had some great, famous photographs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!!
This book is the best. It felt so down-to-earth. You feel like you know he williams sisters. I truly disagree with the person who talked about this book being about Jehovah's Witness. They don't encourage reades in any way to become a Jehovahs Witness. This is such a good book, I don't see how anyone could bad-mouth it. I had the good fortune to meet Venus, and I'm not lying i swear, and she is so nice and friendly. She gives off such a good vibe. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!! BUY IT PLEASE!!!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good subject for a biography report; not a great book
My son and I learned about Moe Berg at the Spy Museum in Washington DC (which is well worth a visit).Knowing he would have to write a biography book report in 5th grade, I ordered this book so he could cover something other than just sports. A jewish WWII spy who played pro baseball, spoke multiple languages, had a law degree, studied nuclear physics with Einstein and travelled the world . . . . an athlete and intellectual, eccentric and unusual. Berg's life story is fascinating, easily holding the interest of a fifth grader, and it made a stellar biography report. My son learned a lot about many subjects. So, I recommend the reading this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
What is wrong with these kid reviewers?I admit, I've never been really fond of Gary Paulsen's books, but i was pleasantly surprised.Seriously, every kid reviewer who hated this book should go out and get a life!Very well written book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wilderness Adventures
Gary Paulsen. "Paulsen is the best man-against-nature adventures writing today" according to Publisher Weekly. He lives with his wife Ruth in Minnesota. In "Wood Song" Gary talks about his like in the woods with his dogs. The book is about how unforgiving the wild can be and how he had to learn to deal with death in a hole new way. In just the first few chapters he talks about how on one of his first runs with a sled team he encounters a pack of wolfs chasing a deer. Also he learns that he knows very little about running a dog sled team in the begging, but once he starts running with the team more and more he starts to understand them and why they like to run. The book talks about how close Gary gets to his first led dog Storm. The book then talks about when he ran the Iditarod in Alaska. How he had to survive against the elements with only his dogs as company. In the book Gary talks about where he has been and what he has done.
4-0 out of 5 stars This is VERY informational
I really enjoyed this book because it talks alot about his life. The book is a little gorey in the first few chapters but it really talks about Gary Paulsen's life. Some quotes that I thought that were meaningful were the parts where he talked about The Doe, I thought that part was interesting to me becuase it talked about life or death which was always a mystery to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A bit out of date, but a good introduction
I've seen most of the books on Yao and this is one of the best overall. Although this book is a bit out of date in terms of the time period covered (it basically ends just as Yao is about to come to Houston), it is a good introduction for those who don't know anything about Yao, and even manages to go into a bit more detail in places than Yao's own book. Written by C.F. Xiao, a Chinese sports reporter, the book duly traces Yao's childhood but places emphasis on his early training (contrary to what you might think Yao was not a "phenom" from the get-go); all the blood, sweat, and tears involved; his years competing in the CBA, or Chinese Basketball Association, as well as the Chinese Olympic team. There is a large cast of characters and the book features several play-by-play descriptions of CBA championship games, which is pretty cool. The author treats the subject with a lot of respect, and the book is very easy to read, even if you don't know the Chinese "pinyin" spelling. So, if you want to learn about Yao's early years, this book is enjoyable, informative, and a pleasure to read. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Jesse Owens
Jesse Owens was born in 1913 in Alabama. His mother and father or as they were sharecroppers.Jesse or as they called him "JC" was the youngest of his family. He was small and skinney. "JC" had a sickniss in his leg that his mother had to take out with a hot kichen knife. He calls that leg his lucky leg. 3-0 out of 5 stars Author's reply to review comparing bio and autobio
Jesse Owens' autobiography was written as something of aself-advertisement.Sadly, some of the more difficult aspects of his lifewere covered over or revised to make a happier life than he probablyexperienced.I tried to get to the bottom of some of the confusion arounddates and events, which forced me to disagree with what Mr. Owens hadwritten in some instances.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good pictures, but the details don't agree with Jesse
Having read Jesse Owens autobiography, Jesse, I am less impressed with this book than I was with the autobiography. His autobiography differs in the details--such as whether or not he got married before or after hisfirst child was born, and alsospeculates about his opinions. It isopinionated in itself and doesn't give as objective a viewpoint as I woulddesire in a biography. However, the photographs are great, and let theviewer become acquainted with what the real Jesse Owens looked like, forthose who were not acquainted with him while he lived. Not bad, but Idon't recommend it too highly. ...
