1-0 out of 5 stars BORING....
You shouldn't buy it i've had it for four years and ive only read the first ten pages I'm selling it because it is pointless!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's all about Nick....
If you thought you knew all there is to know about Nick Carter, think again! Jane Carter tells us some stuff about her son that only she and the rest of Nick's family know about. This is a very nice book, beautifully written by Jane. It is full of secrets and anecdotes about Nick's childhood and rise to superstardom. However, the information about Nick's career may seem kind of old, now, since this book was published in 1998. Perhaps Jane should have waited a couple of years before writing a book about her son, because God knows she would have plenty of things to say : she could give her opinion on Nick's arrest, his solo career, the trials and tribulations that the Backstreet Boys have been through, Nick's relationship with Willa Ford (yeah right, like Nick would let her write about that!!), etc. Nick's been through a lot of things since 1998, and I believe that if Jane decided to write another book about Nick, it would have a lot more substance and depth than this one. But don't get me wrong! It's a great read, as pleasant as a fairytale. Because, in many ways, that's what Nick's life is! And seeing it through his mother's eyes really gives it a whole new dimension.

4-0 out of 5 stars As a BSB fan you have to read it some time..................
I have got the book and I like the writing style and to know the facts as a BSB fan. I kinda think it's wrong to get money out of someone else his succes, but on the other hand it ain't lies and Nick knew of and agreed with it, so as not such a big fan anymore (NO I didn't become a hater) I would suggest it, but not too much. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
A boring, poorly edited, repetitive book filled with unlikely dialogue and third hand gossip. There is no new insight into Brando's character to be found here.If you are a Brandophile and must read this book, my advice is to get it from the library.

1-0 out of 5 stars leaves a lot to be desired
This book was a disappointment despite very low expectations. Darwin Porter is not a writer, so this is not really a book; it's a deluge of catty gossip, incidents presented in no particular order and with little consideration for their relative value or who they pretend to describe. As another reveiwer said, one gets a far more meaningful sense of who Brando was by watching his flims, even the bad ones, because he was a fabulous and fascinating actor and always gave himself away in his performances. One doesn't need to read page after page of repititious detail about his supposed homosexual and straight affairs presented as actual accounts, with foolish dialogs that all sound the same. For example: would Brando ALWAYS refer to his prick as "my noble tool"?
4-0 out of 5 stars OMIGOD!Unzipped and Pants Down
If all of this novel is to be believed I am wondering where Mr. "I Can't Keep My Pants Up" Brando had time to make any movies at all.Marlon went to bed with half of the world according to this tale of unbridled sex with men and women. The loves of his life is said to be his mother, Dodie, and Wally Cox.There is a hint of incest with his mother in the book.He was bisexual to say the least and made no bones about it - early in life affairs with James Dean, Monty Clift, Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson and on and on.Too many men and women to name.It is a side of Brando that has not been written about. If you want to know every little detail of his sex life and who sampled his "noble tool" as he called his package, then read the book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Beatles
I thought this book was pretty good. I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know about the Fab Four, and it was very informative. The book mentions Lennon's art, but didn't show any of it. The book is great for doing a report, but if you want to know what the Beatles were at heart, it's best to simply listen to their songs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beatles for Beginners
Aimed at young readers, this is a decent overview of the lives and careers of the Beatles from their childhoods in Liverpool through the release of the first Beatles Anthology album. Thirty-eight black-and-white photographs of the Fab Four and other pop music stars are included, along with brief lists of recommended readings, films and videos, and other sources of information. The author generally does a good job of tracing the rise of Beatlemania within the context of the popular culture of the 1960s. Unfortunately, the book devotes many more pages to the Beatles as a cultural phenomenon than to their superb musicianship and their profound role in shaping rock music. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good and worth reading
Ok I've read this book unlike the two people that bash it. You can tell Nargus hann't read it because she handled the virgin question very tactfully! I loved it. This book is for young readers so it doesn't tell anything bad! In fact I wish now that BSB fans are older there would be a real book about what really went on! Anyway this book rocks and is a good read! Don't bash something you haven't read!

1-0 out of 5 stars make that negative 1 star
I haven't read this book and I most certainly do not plan on reading it.Samantha Stonebraker is a coniving, money-hungry insult to the beauty that is Brian Littrell.I can't believe that this woman would sink so low as to try to make a few dollars off of an ex's success. This personally to Samantha: You are sick and twisted and I seriously hope you get what you deserve for exploiting Brian and the rest of the guys. Get a life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Just wrong!!
Actually, I give this zero stars, but it won't actually let me do that.Read more

Editorial Review

Judy Garland wrings our hearts with her wistful "Over the Rainbow;"Madonna inspires a dancing frenzy with "Everybody;" Ethel Merman blows us awaywith her brassy "Everything's Coming Up Roses;" Bette Midler makes us laugh withher schlocky "Chapel of Love;" and Joan Baez looks back on an era of socialprotest with her hauntingly beautiful "Diamonds and Rust." In this richlyillustrated collection of biographies, music critic Roxane Orgill recreatesthose magic moments and paints vivid word pictures of the lives of 10 womenvocalists who span the century, from Sophie Tucker, Last of the Red Hot Mamas,to country singer Lucinda Williams. "This book tells the stories of ten womenwho went about their own business, regardless of what other people said or did. These women took charge of their lives and their singing careers," Orgilldeclares. Each artist epitomizes her decade, often by resisting the socialcurrents of the time. They come from 10 different genres of popular music andentertainment--cabaret, vaudeville, movie musicals, Broadway shows, musicvideos, country, rock, blues, folk, and jazz--and the author characterizes thosemusical styles and sets them in historical perspective, as the great bluessingers Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith are shown against a backdrop of racialinjustice, and Anita O'Day's intellectual jazz improvisations are explained inthe context of the Beat era. Adding to the wealth of information are sidebars onthe development of electronic media, intriguing glimpses into the publicwardrobe of each singer, and a discography for some great listening. 5-0 out of 5 stars You won't want to put it down ...
Author Roxane Orgill picked a single woman to epitomize each decade of the 20th century, profiling women of different genres, each of whom has an interesting story and voice.Shout, Sister, Shout! is a great introduction to the performers and leaves one wanting to read more about each one of them, while artfully giving a sense of the developments of the 20th century.I read this fascinating, photographically illustrated book in two sittings and was sorry when it was over. 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book about Awesome women

Yes, but what D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S b&w photos for the price! This is one of the BEST used book values I ever bought!
4-0 out of 5 stars Very indepth.
This book was very informative. It was like the author followed Love around her whole life.It had many quotes from Love on many different topics. The pictures were great (though they would have been better in color). This book tells just how much she had to go through to get to thelevel she's at today, the top.I would have given it one more star if itwere an official biography.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've got to tell you..
most people wouldn't give this book a chance simply because of the authors..
2-0 out of 5 stars Clear message, but not beyond a bathroom-read.
I hate to review books with negative comments, but for this one I had to. I knew that Britney went to school only until 9th grade, and hence the quality of literature would not be jaw-dropping. And the book proved me right. Looking strictly at the literal aspect of the book, sentences were choppy, characters are not thoroughly developed and vocabularies she uses were quite primary. Regardless of her target audience (which from the quality of the book, must have been targeted at first to third graders), she should consider that this is a novel she is writing. I was shocked to read sentences like "People say that once a terrible thing happened, and people died." (page 3). Whoa! That sound very sad, huh?
4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
I wouldn't say that this book is boring or fabulous, it's just fine. Although i'm a huge fan of Britney, and i used to say that everything about her is fabulous, but this book is not really interesting and it's a pretty short story, you can finish it in 2-3 days. You many consider buy STAGES instead of this, STAGES is 10 times better than A MOTHER'S GIFT!! ... Read more
