5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Three words, READ THIS BOOK!!!!! Trust me you won't regret it. I couldn't put this book down at all. It is an awesome book. I read it in a day. I loved it.READ IT!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars i love this book!!
If you are depressed and looking for the light well read "The Me Nobody Knew",it is about a girl who hates her parent, hates her body hates her life, hates every thing.she slowlyfinds out the world is not all as bad as she thought and uncovers the peace and love in the world she never knew about. even though she was sexually assulted, critsized by her friends and nearly starved her self to death she still lives on to be the best out there..

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
i LOVED this book.. mainly because it was exactly like me. I can relate to every word. As it said in the book " i was in 8th grade when i had realized i had been depressed for a year now." In 8th grade i realized i had been depressed for a long time as well. I had exspiranced things that had changed my life forever. I had always been upset a lot. Like when my mom got cancer and when i found out my kid brother was barried on the same day as my brithday. I had always been an unhappy child... not as much as i am now. I had a twin who had died and my kid brother died and i was scared about my mother leaving too. Then when my sister died and came back to life and was in a coma and i had witnessed it allmy whole life had changed forever. i then started to starve myself. After my sister came hoem from the hospital and i had been taking antidepressants i become more upset because they weren't working for me (atleast i didn't think they were) all i ever wanted was to be happy.. so i took 100mg instead of 10mg a day for a week and i ended up in the hospital.. and in the psyh ward and they took me off the meds... and about a week after that i started to starve myself again... and my friend gave me this book and i read it and i was like " wow!" the book was like based on me or something it was crazy!!!! i LOVED this book it's my favorite and i deffinatly recommend the book to any girl ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
What is wrong with these kid reviewers?I admit, I've never been really fond of Gary Paulsen's books, but i was pleasantly surprised.Seriously, every kid reviewer who hated this book should go out and get a life!Very well written book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wilderness Adventures
Gary Paulsen. "Paulsen is the best man-against-nature adventures writing today" according to Publisher Weekly. He lives with his wife Ruth in Minnesota. In "Wood Song" Gary talks about his like in the woods with his dogs. The book is about how unforgiving the wild can be and how he had to learn to deal with death in a hole new way. In just the first few chapters he talks about how on one of his first runs with a sled team he encounters a pack of wolfs chasing a deer. Also he learns that he knows very little about running a dog sled team in the begging, but once he starts running with the team more and more he starts to understand them and why they like to run. The book talks about how close Gary gets to his first led dog Storm. The book then talks about when he ran the Iditarod in Alaska. How he had to survive against the elements with only his dogs as company. In the book Gary talks about where he has been and what he has done.
4-0 out of 5 stars This is VERY informational
I really enjoyed this book because it talks alot about his life. The book is a little gorey in the first few chapters but it really talks about Gary Paulsen's life. Some quotes that I thought that were meaningful were the parts where he talked about The Doe, I thought that part was interesting to me becuase it talked about life or death which was always a mystery to me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not my favorite
This book was a pretty quick read for me.I picked it up because I am a big fan of E.L. Konigsburg, especially The View From Saturday. While I was interested in this story, it did not measure up to some of the author's other books, including The View From Saturday or The Outcasts From 19 Schuyler Place, although those are from a different genre.
3-0 out of 5 stars Reinventing History?
The basic rules of good fiction are to take an interesting character and plop him into some action, then ask "What if..." and then "And then what..." and finally, "So what?" Konigsburg takes the reader into the brain of Leonardo by way of his Puck-like apprentice, but with little about Mona Lisa the painting or the enigma. Perhaps it will lead young readers to more about DaVinci. Thoughtful, entrancing, but not exciting; I wonder how it would read if Konigsburg decided to write the life and time of Donald Trump.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Second Mrs.Giaconda
The Second Mrs.Giaconda, by E. L. Konigsburg, is a book about a poor, dogged, perverse boy living in Italy who stumbles upon Leonardo da Vinci... which changes his life forever.E. L. Konigsburg tells why Leonardo da Vinci painted a portrait of an unimportant merchant's wife when tons of dukes and duchesses wanted their portrait done.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Size Biography
Usually, I find Biographies long and dull, but this biography of Einstein held my interest. It wasn't too long, and the details it included were quite interesting.I also enjoyed learning about his different proofs and theorms. However, I think the author assumed wrong on one of mysteries of Einstein.Jeremy Bernstein wrote out what he thought was Einstein's proof of the pythagorean theorm, since Einstein never wrote it down. I found a simple error in his mathematics.Besides this, the book is very informative.I would highly reccomend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A short biography
This is a short biography of Einstein. It is very easy and joyfull to read. It is not very serious biography, it does not go into details, double lined short stories, cover major stages of his life. I recommend to all who wants a brief summary but nice one. I read it in one day, you do not want to drop the book. Very nice. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars please review THIS book!
The reviews on this page appear to be based on another book, by Judith St. George; not on Peter and Connie Roop's book.I know them and their work, and neither one uses the "St. George" nom de plume!

5-0 out of 5 stars spectacular
I really enjoyed this book.I especially liked the exciting parts like when Sacagawea and Pomp almost died.I also liked the part when the bears attacked them.I hope I will find another book as exciting as this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sacagewea - an inspiring tale
Sacagawea by Judith St. Martin is a well written historical novel for older children and young adults filled with rich descriptions and characters. Judith St. Martin, a noted children's biographer, used Lewisand Clarks' journals and other original material to tell a good story. Myeight and a half year-old daughter says the book really inspired her andmade her think about what it would be like is she lived during Sacagewea'stime and traveled with her companions. The book is informative and best ofall it has the quality to lead kids to use their imagination to wonder andwant to know more. We learned that Sacagewea means bird woman.Illustratedmaps tracing the Lewis and Clark trail are helpful. My daughter adds thatthis book is an excellent choice for anybody who likes to stop and thinkabout adventures and people who have made remarkable contributions to ourworld. This is the opening of a poem she wrote after reading the book."One day in Shoshone land, an Indian girl was picking berries with herfriend. Then a cloud of dust appeared, they knew what that meant. For theyfeared the white men would come after them." The poem concludes, "We stillremember Sacagawea today. My heroine forever, forever and always." The bookmay inspire you to write about one of your heroes or heroines. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The story of Beethoven's music in the context of his world
One of the inherent problems with juvenile biographies of famous composers like Ludwig van Beethoven is that you only get to read about great music, you do not get to listen to it unless you happen to have a CD handy of the composer's greatest hits (although I am sure there are some books out there that come with their own CD that is cued to the text, which, it goes without saying, is a great idea).Wendy Thompson finds a way of dealing with this problem by including extracts from some of Beethoven's most famous works--the Third, Fifth, and Ninth symphonies, the "Emperor" piano concerto, and the "Moonlight" sonata--in simple keyboard arrangements.Of course, you need to have a piano nearby instead of a CD player, but you still have to appreciate the effort.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, truly brilliant
I found this book quite amazing. The horrors that she went through were described with amazing detail, and to me, I felt as if I were in her place. The vocabulary she uses to depict each seen seemed so carefully chosen, and extremely high level for her age. I also found it incredible that she was able to right this amazing book, just off of notes that she wrote when she was young. How terrible a position she must have been in.
3-0 out of 5 stars Alright Book
The Beautiful Days Of My Youth by Ana Novac is a book based on Ana's diary she kept while at Auschwitz and Plaszow. This is not the most well written book but not many 15 year olds could even write while going through the horrendous conditions at Auschwitz and Plaszow. We follow her life through the concentration camps as she is worked nearly to death and fights sickness after sickness until Britain soldiers liberate her camp. Overall the book is a bit confusing at times and a tad boring at times but a book that describes the life of a teenage girl at a concentration camp pretty well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confusing!?!?!?!
I had to do a biography and I picked this one, but it was really actually hard to understand and explain to the class the requirements of my book report.I could say it was very well done for a fourteen year old, but still, there were too many ideas taking place and that started to get confusing.I recommend this for any that wants to know more of the events of Aushwitz and Plasow, but for something for school, I highly recommend you to not read it.It is very hard to prepare a speech for the class on this one meeting all the requirements. ... Editorial Review

Adam Mastoon's beautifully reproduced photographs of gay, lesbian, and bisexual young people are a revelation: each subject, posed yet casual, looks directly into the camera and invites us into his or her life. But the book is more than a photo gallery, and the personal statements written by each young person brings a sense of what it means to be a gay youth today. In a world in which gay teens are told that they either don't exist or should change their sexual orientation, Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Powerful Account I've Ever Read
This was the first book I found when I started accepting my sexuality, and I have to say I was so moved by what I read here that I found the courage to come out myself. What makes this book so much more different from other accounts of GLBTQ youth is that this book also comes with a photo of each teen, so we have faces to match the stories with. And it's not all "boo-hoo, we're unaccepted gays", though we do have a few stories like that. But we also have tons of stories that cover all possible societal reactions, and each story provides a ray of hope for any GLBTQ person.A classic that must be on the shelf of every GLBTQ person's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shared Heart, Shared Story
I found this book in the local libary and I automatically sat down and read it from cover to cover. This is the book that every young lonely GLBT youth needs. It shows that we are not alone and that there are other teens out there just like us. It is a fabulos book and it is the best thinh that has happened to me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Courageous life stories, personality-filled photos
These beautiful and complex photographs depict humor, integrity, joy, pain, and courage. The photographer's technical expertise is matched and perhaps even surpassed by his eye for the "soul" of his subjects. The photos are complemented by first-person stories that reveal the journeys and challenges these young people have faced and overcome. It sounds corny, but this book made me proud of both the photographer and his subjects. This book does what great art and literature are supposed to do. It is uplifting and inspiring, and it lights the path toward a brighter future. ... Read more

Greatness in women! How is it achieved, and how acknowledged, when one is married to a significant public figure?
4-0 out of 5 stars Mrs. King Is A Strong, Dignified Woman
The behind-the-scenes story of the other side in Dr. King's life. His widow, Coretta Scott King, writes an earnest memoir of her own life and what it was like to try to maintain some shade of normality for her family in the turmoil of the Civil Rights movement. There is too much honesty here for the hero worship of the late Dr. King many might expect. After reading this book I came away feeling Mrs. King deserves praise for her own role in her peoples' struggle and her husband's achievements. Coretta Scott King, like so many women behind noteworthy men, should receive more than the footnote status those in such roles too often find is their legacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Martin luther King jr. Book response
This review is about the book My life with Martin Luther King Jr. By Coretta Scott King. This book touched me because my grandpa used to know Dr.King and this book tells me all the stuff my grandpa never told me. Like when Martin protested to all the whites, the Ku Klux Klan, or [KKK] told Dr.King to stop protesting or he would never see his family again, but Martin was not afraid, and with that the KKK bombed his house as a warning, luckally no one was hurt. The "I have a dream speech". 5-0 out of 5 stars ...makes the reader feel as if they are flying through the air, alongside Marie, performing flawless cabrioles!
The year is 1878. Fourteen-year-old Marie van Goethem has dreamed of nothing but becoming a sujet in the Paris Opera since she first joined the company years ago. And now, at the age of 14-years-old, Marie feels that she has the potential to do just that. However, just as she is basking in the glow of feeling light on her feet, she is picked out of her class by none other than prized Parisian painter, Edward Degas. Degas is a regular fixture in Marie's dance classes. Always sketching the dancers in various positions, from pointe to simply lacing their slippers, or adjusting their tutus. But Degas has other plans for Marie. For, as soon as she accompanies him to his studio, she learns that Degas plans on using Marie as the model for his one, and only, sculpture, entitled Petite danseuse de quatorze ans (Little Dancer Aged Fourteen). Marie is only too happy to comply with Monsieur Degas's wishes, for her family has struck poverty since her father passed away, and she could use the money to provide food for her younger sister, Charlotte. Money that her mother drinks away, and her older sister, Antoinette, spends on frivolous items, such as fancy stockings. However, as the years pass, and Marie is no longer summoned by Monsieur Degas, she realizes that she needs to find another way to make some extra money, in an attempt to follow her deceased father's wishes, and provide for her beloved family. And, at both her mother's, and Antoinette's request (and demands), Marie begins following the same path Antoinette has paved for her, attending the foyer de la danse. But when Marie's conscience rebels against what is expected of her at foyer de la danse, and Antoinette stumbles into a bout of trouble, Marie decides to change her path in life, in an attempt to create the home she always wanted for her younger sister; and hold her oft-times troubled family together.

I can't count the times that I've seen a truly inspiring painting or sculpture and wondered what the inspiration behind it was. With MARIE, DANCING, the story behind Edgar Degas's well known sculpture, Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, is brought to vivid life in this fictionalized account.
4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and poignant...
I've been enjoying Carolyn Meyer's Young Royals series.I have book three of the aforementioned series lined up for a read, but decided to give Marie, Dancing a whirl this time. This wonderful novel is based on the Victorian work of art of Degas's controversial sculpture called The Little Dancer. This tells the story of a penniless French family and the daughters whose only hope and happiness in life is that they are students at the Paris Opera Ballet. For Marie van Goethem, being part of the Paris Opera Ballet is the best thing in her life.At home, she has an alcoholic mother and shattered dreams due to their impoverished conditions to look forward to.Her dreams of success will come with many obstacles, including endless suitors and a proposition to pose for a sculpture in order to put food on the table, but Marie will be content if at least one of her sisters, Antoinette and Charlotte, realizes her dream of becoming a dancer. There are some twists in the novel.

4-0 out of 5 stars under an unlucky star.
I like learning about China and what happened back in the days. I just can't figure out why anyone would want to write an autobiography shamelessly asking for sympathy. Oh, I was the son of a rich family, and therefore I suffered. Woe was I.
5-0 out of 5 stars An inspirational, insightful autobiography
China's Sons is the intensely personal account of Da Chen, born in China in 1962, is reviewed here for its importance to many an adult reader as well. Chen and his family were outcasts in Communist China, and Da had to drop out of school as a result. When Mao died, Da faced a long struggle to regain his education and go to college and his entire family helped him succeed. China's Son is an inspirational, insightful autobiography.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting child account of the Cultural Revolution
As an adult interested in China and the Cultural Revolution and having traveled many times to China, I read this book not really expecting to glean much from it. It was well written though and appropriately rated. I found Da Chen a character I could relate with (even as an adult) and discovered his account to be full of emotion: frightened, bitter, angry, excited, happy etc.. I think most of the "facts" were presented in truth. ... Read more
