5-0 out of 5 stars I love it
This book is very interesting. I started becoming interested in the history of queens and kings of England eversince I read this book. Queen Anne Boleyn is one of my favourite queens in the whole world. She's determined to show the world that one day, she will be queen above all the people who had hated, rejected and scorned her. It made me feel like I was Anne myself. This book should not only be read by older people. 11 year old kids like me can also read and enjoy it. By, NM kid.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK!
Carolyn Meyer is my favorite author and I have read all of her books about the Tudor Family.First of all, I am a Tudor Family freak so this book immediately got my attention because it was about Anne Boleyn. It is very well written and I wasn't disappointed at all.I know a lot about Anne to begin with and found it true and detailed. It is great for teens looking for an adventure and who are interested in the life of the royal family. It isn't a hard, complicated story to understand.I loved it and finished it in a day. This book is about Anne's life as a Lady in Waiting and then her attraction to King Henry and how she falls in love and won't stop till she's queen. After she gives birth to Elizabeth and doesn't produce a male heir, Henry loses interest in her, after several miscarriages, he completely gives up hope and she is sent to the tower, where she is killed later leaving behind a daughter who will soon become one of England's greatest queens.

4-0 out of 5 stars Anne Boleyn's story, another great Young Royals book (4 1/2 stars)...
The setting begins in the year 1520.Anne Boleyn vowed that one day she would be queen. She has a difficult childhood for being the black sheep in the family. Her sixth finger and dark mole are shown as signs of evil. She especially has a heart time with her older sister Mary and declares that one day her sister will have to kneel before her.And she does just about everything to make that happen. She sees the golden opportunity when she becomes Queen Catherine's lady-in-waiting and Henry VIII's mistress. When Queen Catherine fails to give him a son, Henry soon gets rid of her and his first-born daughter Mary (this happens in the first Young Royals book called Mary, Bloody Mary) and marries Anne. Now Anne Boleyn has finally achieved her objective: she has become the Queen of England. But how long will her good fortune last? When she gets pregnant, only one concern comes to mind, will the child be a boy? There are various twists throughout the novel.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great second installment, good portrayal of young Elizabeth I
Young Elizabeth Tudor goes through a great deal in her journey to become Queen of England. She is Henry VIII's second daughter, one who is pampered and well cared for when she's a child and then is ignored and shunned by her father after he has his second wife and Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, beheaded for supposedly cheating on him.He wants an heir and he achieves this with his third wife who births (and dies as a result) young Edward who will precede his father to the thrown.During all of this, Elizabeth has endured her sister Mary, who hates her for being Anne Boleyn's daughter. However, they reach some sort of truce after Henry VIII dies and Edward is crowned. But when the young king dies and Mary is crowned queen, all hell breaks loose.Mary wants Elizabeth out of the way and she does just about everything to keep her from being the next queen. There are various twists throughout the novel.
4-0 out of 5 stars Beware, Princess Elizabeth is great!
At first, I didn't really want to read this book, but when I picked it up, I couldn't put it down! It really drew me into the story, about princesses, kings, vengeance, and rebellion against the queen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anne Frank Life in Hiding
This book is magical, because it shows you and makes you feel like you are the scene. It made me think how hard it would be to live like a young Jewish girl called Anne Frank living a life with guns being shot and having to move so much.
4-0 out of 5 stars Anne frank
This book is filled with the ups and downs of Anne Frank, how she handles her problems, how life was being Jewish and happy memories of her life. It tells how Anne was a very energetic girl who had fun with friends and was very social. However, it also describes how hard life was for her, being Jewish, going into hiding and being captured and being transported to different concentration camps. Anne was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt Germany. During her time in hiding she kept all her secret thoughts in a diary that her mother and father(Edith and Otto Frank) gave to her the day she turned 13(June 12, 1942). Anne had a very strong bond with her father and sister (Margot) but not as strong with her mother but she still loved her dearly. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to anyone who is interested about Anne Frank.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anne Frank Life in Hidding
The summary on this book is this is a book about Anne Frank. It tells about her life and her diary. Also it tells about her troubles and her problems. In this book, people are put into concentration camps and poision gas room by the Nazis. If you don't know who the Nazis are, they are a type of group that dosen't like Jews.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfying
An uplifting read that shows how humanity's darkest hour brought immeasurable good out of so many ordinary citizens. These courageous individuals risked everything to save the lives, in most cases, of completestrangers.Among the heroes profiled are a high-ranking nazi (at least intitle if not in spirit), a guard dog, and several would-be-victims whoseGod-given ingenuity manifested itself at the right time and enabled them tooutwit Hitler's storm troopers.5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Put Down!
This book kept me riveted to the page. I just couldn't put it down! There's been so much written about the horror of the Holocaust- it was great to see true, touching human-interest stories with happy endings, considering the historical circumstances. The writing is excellent andconsistent, the book is very well-edited, and the stories are just plainmoving. Some of them are amazing beyond what any Hollywood screenwritercould concoct- and these are all factual, having come from directinterviews with the survivors themselves. This book would be great forolder kids, too, as it explores some valuable moral territory, without anyparticular religious or social agenda. These are simply stories that neededto be told, and they are well-told indeed! Great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Out of the Horrors, Came Triumphant Heroes
Before I read this book, the Holocaust suggested to me a time of darkness and suffering. These stories have showed me that the darkness was sometimes illuminated by works of mercy and the suffering occasionally alleviated byworks of charity. It was uplifting to read these true accounts of humanlove and brotherhood. ... Read more

Editorial Review

When writer Sara Cameron went on assignment to Colombia to write aUNICEF report about the Children's Movement for Peace to submit to the NobelPeace Prize Committee, she was skeptical: "I didn't believe that children coulddo anything substantial to help peace." But she was soon convinced by thesincere teen leaders of the movement who had been through hell and lived to tellabout it. Colombia is a country that has been torn apart by guerilla warfare, illegal drug trade, and gang violence for more than 40 years. In the late 1990s,guided by civic and religious leaders, the children and teens of Colombiadecided to try and do what the adults of their country could not: make peace.Besides writing her report for UNICEF, Cameron collected these first-personaccounts of nine young leaders of the movement, all of whose lives have beentainted by violence. Heartbreaking examples include 18-year-old Juan Elias, whose father was murdered right in his own office, and 16-year-old Mayerly, whose best friend was stabbed to death in a gang war. Still, these youngleaders--despite threats by armed gangs and extreme poverty--organize peacerallies, speak publicly at schools, and lead workshops for other displaced orabused children. Sad, but ultimately triumphant, these stories will both inspireand shame the teens of First World nations who read them--shame them by showinghow much of their lives they take for granted, and inspire them to do more withthe resources and relationships they have been blessed with. The book includesan author's note and a list of resources to learn more about the Children'sMovement for Peace. (Ages 12 and older) Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Out of War
This nonfiction book is a collection of personal accounts of nine children who took one look at their beloved war-torn Columbia, saw how it was affecting the people around them and their families, and walked down the path to the right to live in a peaceful environment. 4-0 out of 5 stars Young adults drowning in rural and urban war
This book confirms Colombia's intimate relationship with war. However, "Out of War; True Stories From the Front Lines," offers a frightening new dimension of the conflict.Author Sara Cameron documents the tragic lifes of young poor Colombians who are disgusted with the violence and seek to reduce the warfare by fostering a better understanding of peace.5-0 out of 5 stars Child Heroes Reject the Horrors of War
Fortunately I did not experience the terror of mass murder, rape and callous torture as a child. For the children of Columbia such experiences are an every day occurrence. The courage of the young people whose stories Cameron relates is extraordinary. How does an ordinary fifteen year old girl rise to become a leader of children in a mass movement to bring peace to a country where war is the norm? How do children as young as eleven overcome their anger and personal pain to tell their fellow sufferers that anger and revenge will not work as well as forgiveness and conciliation?Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
Princess Catherine of Aragon was one the first love of the infamous King Henry VIII during the early 1500's. She was originally betrothed at the elderly age of 17 at the time to his older brother Arthur, who died young, but since Catherine couldn't produce an heir, the rest of the royal family did not pay any attention to the foreigner who hadn't paid all her dowry in the first place. Before he became heir to the throne, the young, sweet Henry had been her only guide in the cold, dreary country, which was nothing like her Spain. Since the first day of her visit, he had talked and laughed with her, as well as teach her bits of French and English, and to Catherine was the best person possible to help her out. Though, years after Arthur's death, conditions at the castle had rapidly changed: the queen had passed away due to child birth illnesses, King Henry VII had grown older and became more violent, and gradually, the members of Princess Catalina's court had deserted her and returned to Spain, which was currently at war as a result of Queen Isabella's unexpected death. Through all of those life-rattling events, the Spanish royal was determined to marry Henry. His father noticed and because she had not completely paid the marriage dowry, he cut her allowance, which forced Catherine and her assistance workers to starve, but the foreigner still fought for what she wanted. Carolyn Meyer unmasks the true hardships of being a royal in her novel Patience, Princess Catherine.

This book was great!I loved how you saw Catherine and Henry. They were both fun to watch and see how they interacted with each other and with the people around them.It was great to see how much historically accurate information was included. It took me about 20 pages to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. This is a GREAT book for people of all ages. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Moving, Important
This is a story that rarely gets told; The adolesent years of Queen Mary I. Everyone knows that she imprisoned her sister, and burned the Prostestants- But why? What was the foundation that led up to these events? The fact that Mary was bastardized and forced to be a maid to her baby sister Elizabeth is crucial, but is never mentioned in school history textbooks. If you love Tudor history, you'll love this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great first offering of the Young Royals! (4 1/2 stars)...
I have been fascinated with Henry VIII's wives as of late and someone recommended the Young Royals series. This is a series for teens and I was unsure of whether or not to give the books a whirl, but I bought Mary, Bloody Mary just in case.I loved this dark, insightful, albeit short novel about Mary Tudor, one of Henry VIII's daughters. She comes across as an unsympathetic person at first, but after you read her story and everything she goes through, you have a better understanding of her behavior. She is the apple of Henry's eyes until Anne Boleyn comes along and Henry falls for her, getting an annulment from Catherine of Aragon, his first wife, and declaring Mary an illegitimate and sending her away, and she tries to survive as a peasant in rags.Anne Boleyn allows her to return to the court, but as the au pair/servant for her daughter and Mary's half-sister Elizabeth.During that time, she is humiliated and mistreated and she's in constant fear of her father's wrath against her.It is no wonder that she becomes a cold-hearted, bitter woman known to the world as Bloody Queen Mary. There are various twists throughout the novel.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
A boring, poorly edited, repetitive book filled with unlikely dialogue and third hand gossip. There is no new insight into Brando's character to be found here.If you are a Brandophile and must read this book, my advice is to get it from the library.

1-0 out of 5 stars leaves a lot to be desired
This book was a disappointment despite very low expectations. Darwin Porter is not a writer, so this is not really a book; it's a deluge of catty gossip, incidents presented in no particular order and with little consideration for their relative value or who they pretend to describe. As another reveiwer said, one gets a far more meaningful sense of who Brando was by watching his flims, even the bad ones, because he was a fabulous and fascinating actor and always gave himself away in his performances. One doesn't need to read page after page of repititious detail about his supposed homosexual and straight affairs presented as actual accounts, with foolish dialogs that all sound the same. For example: would Brando ALWAYS refer to his prick as "my noble tool"?
4-0 out of 5 stars OMIGOD!Unzipped and Pants Down
If all of this novel is to be believed I am wondering where Mr. "I Can't Keep My Pants Up" Brando had time to make any movies at all.Marlon went to bed with half of the world according to this tale of unbridled sex with men and women. The loves of his life is said to be his mother, Dodie, and Wally Cox.There is a hint of incest with his mother in the book.He was bisexual to say the least and made no bones about it - early in life affairs with James Dean, Monty Clift, Burt Lancaster, Rock Hudson and on and on.Too many men and women to name.It is a side of Brando that has not been written about. If you want to know every little detail of his sex life and who sampled his "noble tool" as he called his package, then read the book. ...
