3-0 out of 5 stars A Par Above.
I think this is one of Anthony's better of the series, at least in terms of its organic completness. Although it covers a lot of ground, only the adventure into the gourd seemed ad hoc fluff. A much less involved ramble would have sufficed to explain the blank token, as it is an important element for the end of the story. Aside from that, the demon's beauty contest seemed a little forced, probably due to little character build up for the part of prince Vore. With a little more effort, Anthony could have developed a better underpinning for love (as he has done so many times before), rather than the superficial clap-trap that is presented here. However, these are sins of commission, rather than omission, and could be as easily laid at the feet of the editor. Overall the book comes together better at the end than do many in this series; as well as tying up a number of lose ends left over from past books. Although not a fantasy classic, any fan of the Xanth series will like it as well or better than most of the others in the series. So if you have read all the ones before this one, chances are you will enjoy it well enough to continue on to the one that comes after.

1-0 out of 5 stars Its old now
By this time Piers Anthony is losing the magic that made him so refreshing a read in the first place. There's hardly anything new and even the puns are getting dull. I think its time he moved on to other works. If he doesn't, then his readers will.

3-0 out of 5 stars too much too much
Yes, he's quite the wit with puns and words and phrases, and yes it's fun.... but enough already. Let us have some interesting storyline too!I think I still like best the story A Spell For Chameleon. It washeartwarming.Roc and a Hard Place is just an exercise in wordiness.Doeshe get paid by the word?No character development, no plot development, just more and more and more of the same. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars A short story, a quick read
As a kid I really enjoyed the Piers Anthony Xanth series, so I figured I would probably enjoy the writing style of this book. Unfortunately I think my tastes have changed in 20 years. While the book was entertaining for the most part, I have to agree with the other reviewers: It was written for children, or probably more specifically, "the child in all of us". It was also a very quick read. Parts of the story, including a major plot feature (I won't spoil it) felt very tacked on (and as it turns out, that feature was tacked on, according to the author's notes at the end). I give it 2 stars: It did cover unusual sexual territory, as promised, but fell quite short on actual adult entertainment.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pornucopia
As a Piers Anthony fan I was very disappointed with this book. I was forewarned of the humorously sexual nature of the book. As a mature, sexually secure adult, I expected an adult, amusing story about penis envy. The humor and sexuality of the book is written at 9-year-old boy "potty talk" level-- enthrallment with human excretement of any type from every orifice. Freudians would have a heyday with Piers revealed psychotically love/hate obsession with anal sex.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not from Amazon, please
I can get this to work on my PC but not on my PDA. Unfortuantely carrying the Desk Top with me isn't that handy, I find paperbacks easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blooming Romance
Currant Events (2004) is the twenty-eighth Fantasy novel in the Xanth series, following Cube Route.Clio and her eight sisters are the Muses of Xanth. As the Muse of History, Clio writes the various volumes of the Xanth saga.
3-0 out of 5 stars PA is going into the dirty old man phase
I have been reluctant to buy any of PA's books for awhile now since he seems to have been going more to the sex side of the stories than the original fun Xanth puns etc.
1-0 out of 5 stars Currant Events
I know I am in a minority but this has to be the most boring, and poorly written book I have read in a long. The description of people and places left me with very little to work with pictorally. I have been writing short stories for children for many years so I don't lack imagination.

4-0 out of 5 stars Xanthtastic
I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but beyond the puns in the Xanth books lie really good stories. The puns are, of course, outrageous. You either love them or think they're hopelessly stupid.
4-0 out of 5 stars well,he has definetly still got it
well, ive got to say,the newest xanth installment has it all.adventure, puns(of course),a lot of traveleing, and of course panties and kissing and the like.haha.but its real good.im not done,i lack about a 100 pages or so.i got it yesterday at the local library and am almost done.i of course will wait until its out in paperback before i buy it.i have 20 of the 29 xanth books as of now.and am looking forward to continuing the series and my collection.i strongly recommend it to any fantasy fan, light or serious.if your new to xanth you will still enjoy it id say.id also recommend reading the sword of shannara trilogy by terry brooks or tolkien of course,ra salvatore,i could go on.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pet Peeve.... kinda torn on this one
I am kinda torn on what I think of Piers Anthony's newest Xanth book.

4-0 out of 5 stars a must read, good plot, "horrible" puns, excellent
I started reading the Xanth novels because of a recomendation but after a while, I got hooked! These books, by Piers Anthony, are full of terrible puns and deep characters. Xanth is a magical, pun-filled land close to the Mundane Florida. In Xanth, everybody has one "talent," or magial thing that they can do (Like a girl named Chlorine can poison water). In this story, there is a souless man called the Dastard who's talent is going bck in time and doing things. He uses this talent to make people's lives worse. For instance, if you had made an important discovery, he would ask you about it until he figured out how to prevent it, in which point in time, he went back and stopped it. The three princesses Melody, Rhyme, and Rythm were prophesied to stop him, along with Beka, the dragon-girl, but there is a problem. Beka is already with the Dastard and the 3 princesses are only six years old! The princesses must change places with their older selves from another world so that they can stop the Dastard. I wont tell you the ending; even the most brilliant mind will be surprisd. Like Anthony"s other books, this is light reading! I recomend this book to anybody of a mature enough mind, especially over 12.

5-0 out of 5 stars $24.95 for an e-book?!?!?
I love the Xanth series but I don't think I'd pay $24.95 for an e-book version! Most other e-book prices are in line with a paperback sale price, $4.00 - $7.00.I think if you bundled 3 of his book together for download you could ask for that kind of price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Xanth book in a long time!
This is one of the best Xanth books that has ever been written. The plot and the talents seemed to be better and more thought out then some of the ones Piers gets from fans. If you like Xanth then you will enjoy it. If you don't, then this may not be the best choice for you. Now, I suggest that you stop reading this review and order this book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Confused and does not end well
Okay, time to give this book a review people can use.First, if you have not read at least the 4th and 5th books of this series, read them first. If you do not, this book is extremely confusing and hard to follow. It refers to several things that happen in the first five books, and they are integrel to the story. Also, I do not agree with the ending, it is confusing and hard to believe.Otherwise, it is an average and well-written book.A somewhat dissappointing conclusion to a series that should have ended after three books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet ANOTHER Superb Book by Anthony
Thank you so much Piers Anthony for this wonderful addition to my favorite series you have written so far in my oppinion. You added so much to the characters and made me fall in love with the protagonists all over again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great [no spoilers]
The "Incarnations of Immortality" series concludes with "And Eternity" as the ghost Jolie senses someone familiar dying.Reduced character maturity diminishes the normal vocabulary and extensive logical investigation. An emotional struggle versus Satan and the prevailing influence of Good could have generated an enormously astonishing novel.
1-0 out of 5 stars And Eternity felt like it would never end...
I have read all of the IOI series, and most of Mr. Anthony's other books, and I really enjoy his work for the most part.I especially enjoy the Incarnation series, with a few exceptions, this being one of them.Through six other books, Mr. Anthony has created an intricate web of characters and events, establishing a series of relationships among the other Incarnations, in order to bring about the character of Orlene. She is associated with all the other Incarnations in one manner or another (Death is her "uncle", Time is her former lover, Fate is her grandmother and foster grandfather, War is her father, Nature is her mother, and Evil is her stepfather). And yet, despite the fact that Mr. Anthony has spent all this time and effort setting the stage for her, she plays a secondary role in the novel, as the main character of the book is Jolie, the mistress of Satan. This ploy could have been interesting, if not for the fact that Orlene is a completely uninteresting and unsympathetic character, spending most of her time whining and apologizing to people. In a series full of dynamic characters, she is a disappointment as a protaganist. Also, the major issue I had with the series as a whole (besides the fact that the second book didn't make any sense) was that the character of Luna, the woman who would balk Satan and save mankind, was never fleshed out beyond a two dimensional character whose only role in the series seemed to be to dish out little prescient tidbits of knowledge she gained due to her dead father. She had such potential when the series began in On a Pale Horse, and just got less and less interesting as the series progress. (Side note:I really like the series overall, just took issue with certain aspects). The addition of the hooker Vita and the Judge Roque served little purpose, other that to have the other characters express disapproval at consenual statuatory rape and then say "oh well, I guess if he really loves her, then its okay, and I have learned a lesson about my views on sin".Mr. Anthony runs this theme throughout the book, that things like suicide and abortion and being a victim of rape should not way on the soul. This I agree with.I do not agree, however, with the aquiessence of the other characters on the issue of Vita, however.

5-0 out of 5 stars An ending full of hopes
First of all, I want to state beforehand that Piers Anthony's IOI serie is one of the most enticing of the Science Fiction/Fantasy series I read until now. It truly represents an original work of art, and AND ETERNITY is the crowning achievement or, I dare to say, its sublimation. Unlike the other six novels, the transformation in the incarnation of Good is fulfilled towards the end in a completely unexpected way. The one destined to become the most important of the incarnations undergoes an interesting character development with a detailed and step-by-step psychological and spiritual evolution. All this is augmented by Anthony's superb writing mixed with elements and thematics such as love, sacrifice, compassion and redemption. Some reviewers here claim that the characters are shallow; such a thing is misleading: most of them we already know through the previous books and we take them a bit for granted (plus there was also some predictability, but that was easily forgiven); however key ones change in a significant way. I wish there was more of this masterpiece, or at least I hope there will be others. I simply thank wholeheartedly Piers Anthony for this terrific ride that started on a pale horse. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Would recommend for any one
Piers Anthony certainly has a way with words, and uses many of them in this "triology ran wild".5-0 out of 5 stars The Contining Xanath Saga
This book is great! It is the first book I've read by Piers Anthony, and I plan to read many more. The first book,"Centure Aisle", introduces you to Dor the "young" magician, Smash the young Ogre, Princess Irene, who can grow plants imedietly on her command, Grundy the golem, he can talk to anything living. Their adventures take them all over Xanth and beyond. I was so into this book that I could not put it down for weekend,I have a tendency to read slow. Thanks to this book I look forward to reading instead of dreading it. The Charcters are colorful and well portrayed, I've recomended it to many and they love it and are hurrying to the book store to get more of the Xanth novels. Enjoy reading this as it will take you far into the reaches of Xanth and you will not want to come back to the real world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magickal Musings and Enchanted Wanderings
The Xanth series is a collection of Tongue-in-Cheek adventurous wanderings through a world where word-play is reality and reality is like a Dream World, from-which you cannot awake--yet, the stories are fantasy episodes comparable to the other great works of the genre, by your favorite Fantasy Writers...only, with a comedic twist and a perfectly placed punch-line (which, in his world, would probably be a running of the gauntlet, with burly men throwing wild swings at your head) now and then! Piers Anthony is a master of word usage and placement--just look at his other titles, even the book names he comes up with make you curious to see what's inside the artistic covers of his stories. "A Spell for Chameleon" is the place to embark upon the tour through Anthony's strange and exciting universe-- but, when the tour of Xanth is over, go visit the world of "The Blue Adept." Piers Anthony is a wonderful writer and one of the men who helped me survive High School. After reading some intense Terry Brooks, I'd kick-back with some Xanth novels and relax a little. I very-much recommend the "THE APPRENTICE ADEPT" series, which is unlike anything you have probably read, before.... You will thoroughly enjoy Stile's adventures and his attempts to live in Two Worlds, simultaneously. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THESE BOOKS ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These books are fantastic!!!!It is a shame not more kids are into these books.I know people all ages would like them because ALL my friends like these books & they are my father's favorite books.Maybe some morepeople should show these books on their sites.I give these books 1000+thumbs up (if I had that many thumbs) and 1,000,000,000,000+stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Piers Anthony at his finest!
These three books make for an excellent trilogy, thick with a rich writing style, imaginative prose, and surprising depth for a "lightweight" fantasy series.I cannot imagine the fantasy genrewithout these.Piers Anthony has opened up a whole new route of writingfantasy. You'll be won over by Xanth's charm instantly.Excellent.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Gotta Love These Books!
Pier Xanthony is a great author. His books are mostly for adults, but teens love them too!I happen to be one, so I would know. His books are punishly hilarious, and lots of fun!I hope he never stops writing them. If you haven't read any then you should definately go for these.Startwith A Spell for Chameleon, the rest of the books are listed inside in theorder that you read them. They are best read if you start from thebeginning, that way you get the right info at the right time. For example,if you don't know about the Gap and the Gap Dragon then you won'tunderstand what's going on at some points.I wouldn't give this seriesanything less than a 5-star rating.I love it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars sexist garbage
There is a kind of book, I particularly dislike. In it the main character is pretty, sexy, intelligent, resourceful, etc., etc., as well as sexually appealing to every single character of the opposite sex regardless of how inappropriate this is. The character may have a single flaw - but nothing that interferes with the pretty, sexy, intelligence. The author goes to exhaustive pains to make this clear to the reader.
3-0 out of 5 stars DoOon Mode
Theirs would be an ideal romance if it were not for a variety of issues- Colene is a teen ager and Darius and adult, Darius, as king must marry a woman he can draw joy from- and Colene is locked in melancholia, and there's an insane emperor who wants to destroy them. Other than that, Colene and Darius have a perfect love. However, now they have a few more allies in overcoming these obstacles. Clones of themselves banded together with human/animal beings who are part of the emperor's game will help them try to beat the odds, along with the friends who have gone with the couple through the modes of reality on their quest. In this exciting, quirky and strangely hopeful novel, once more Piers Anthony makes use of the greatest magic of all- love, to defeat unimaginable evil.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the other books in the series.

I laugh so much I cried. This was a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly an amazing book.
A magificant book to read, as well as the other fascinating Xanth series. I really think this book opens the mind to explore new imaginative things, a wide variety of creatures, and the great puns of course. The story line is really creative with the mixture of mundanes and talents, and as well as different spells and characters. Was really a good book to read, I recommend it to all fantasy readers.

I have read all of the books in the Xanth series leading up to this book.I then waited for what seemed an eternity for this book to come out in paperback. When I finally bought it I just couldn't get interested - I'm not sure why, but I'm sure it had something to do with my new children keeping me busy.:^)

Out of all the Xanth Novels that have come out, this is undoubtebly one of the most fascinating in recent memory. The Demon X(A/N)th goes to Xanth as a dragon with a donkeys head to try and win a bet with all the other demons. There, he meets Chlorine, a ugly girl with a bad temper. And with that, the two of them head off to adventure.Along the way, they will meet a Mundane familly, fight a hurricane, and help save Xanth.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite, but OK
In my opinion this is not one of the better Xanth books. It sort of drags along but some interesting and good things happen. As for those who continue to complain that there are too many puns all I can say is "then quit reading them unless you like to be unhappy"!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but not bad
Another trip to Xanth, a new trip to Ptero. The Xanth books always had a fairy tale quality to them.Yes they get predictable, but so does every fairy tale.the good guy wins, the bad guy loses, we have fun along the way, and all's well.3-0 out of 5 stars Faun...not really......
Faun and Games by Piers Anthony is about an almost unbelievably decent faun named Forrest.Although, he cannot resist his faunish nature, he endures with two or three lovely creatures on a quest to save a friend's tree. They discover several different worlds to find that one special faun.At last, Forrest finds the spirit to fill in the tree and, also, gets more than he's asked for.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory book
Never read a Xanth book before? This might be a good place to start. This book give a good history for all the major characters leading up to this book.Although it does give away the ends of previous books, it doesn't reveal the plots (and puns) in the other books. And, let's be honest, the puns themselves are the great reason for reading about Xanth.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview
I love the Xanth Series, though to begin with I read several of them out of order. While each one is a fine stand alone novel, the more you know the better, and this book helped until I got all caught up.Again, lots of puns and fun stuff, but the best part of this book for regular Xanth readers is the Answer of who the Good Magician is and where he came from.Appearing in every book (i think) he is the director of quests, the all-knowing Oz to whom everyone turns for Answers, and this book give you the when, who and how of his life. Why does he charge a years' service, what's with the challenges, where did the Big Book come from - these are all answered in this fun book,as Humfrey recounts where he's been in order to get where he is going.A great Xanth novel!

3-0 out of 5 stars A tome of history
At last, "Question Quest" is the long-untold life story of Good Magician Humfrey- and his five-and-a-half wives."What?" say Xanth fans."I thought he only had one wife."You'll have to read the book to find out...Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't put it down
When I read any of the books from the xanth series I forget to sleep I just stay up and read till it is done I love these books I just finished this one for the 2nd time different style then most of his previous books but still a great one to read! Read em all you will love them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just when you thought it couldn't get any better in Xanth
Now look, I know Piers Anthony is a great author.I've read his Incarnation of Immortality series, all the Xanth books, the Mode books, and the Apprentice Adept series. But this, I have to say, is the best of the bunch. What do you get when you cross a young black Mundane with a magical talent, a 130 year old man who was transformed into a tree, three kings, and a mess of zombies?Believe it or not, one of the best surprises to come into Xanth in years, thanks to the devious plotting of Good Magician Humphrey, Clio the Muse, and everybody's favorite elf, Jenny of the World of Two Moons. For all of us raised on fairy tales, this one beats them all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bookif you haven't read the others in the series.
I enjoyed this book, and even bought it instead of borrowing from the library. But for a faithful Xanth fan, it is a little disappointing. The earlier books were gems. The middle ones were fun.But lately the quality of the plot (not the writing) has gone down. There is still hope for Xanth, though; I read a few Tamora Pierce books like Wolf Speaker and The Woman Who Rides Like A Man which didn't live up to my expectations of her, then WHAM! she retaliates with Emperor Mage and Lioness Rampant.Don't despair, friends: Xanth is not lost forever! In the meantime, check out Tamora Pierce and Gath Nix. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fated to greatness [no spoilers]
"With A Tangled Skein" continues the "Incarnations of Immortality" series as Niobe confronts her father about an arranged marriage to Cedric Kaftan.A charming romance and improved character development advance the series satisfactorily surrounded by cheap behavior of regularly narrow-minded male and silly female figures. In addition, one finds the characteristic vocabulary and extended logical reasoning as in most fast-paced Piers Anthony narratives. An unrelenting confrontation against Satan's designs and the ingenious influence of Fate could have weaved an exceptionally interwoven novel.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful
This was the first of the Incarnations books that I read, and fell in love with the series within the first couple of chapters.I was already a Piers Anthony fan, loving the Xanth series, but this series is much more mature and has deeper plots and characters than the light Xanth books do.You feel for the characters, come to love them, and this is what happened when I began reading about Niobe and her life.Honestly, this book has changed and influenced my life in a many ways, and silly as that may sound.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun, Packed with Twists & Turns
After "Bearing an Hourglass" I just wasn't sure if I wanted to continue with Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series, but was convinced by the reviews here on Amazon to give the third book a shot. I have to say that I enjoyed Fate's story almost as much as Death's story "On a Pale Horse". "Skein" is packed with great characters that you really cheer for. I don't even want to give away a hint of the story, but I felt that "Skein"'s plot has been the best of the series so far, and really makes you want to read the next book of the series. Anthony's unique writing style is so much fun. And the story of Fate is just so imaginative and engrossing you won't be able to put this book down once started. With Summer almost upon us, I would highly recommend you throw a copy of "Tangles Skein" into your beach-bag with you tanning lotion, as this almost a perfect summer read. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but it'll do.
I loved the other 3 Geodyssey books. They're among my favourite novels and I keep trying to get others to read them.I waited a year and a half for Muse of Art to come to paperback so that I could finally read it.Well, I must say I was a little disappointed! The history was good just like in the other 3, but it read like bad erotica.Piers himself stated somewhere that the Geodyssey series wasn't selling the way he had hoped, I think he's now stooping too low on purpose to try to make it sell.2-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment
I have been a fan of Piers Anthony for many years: I have most of his novels, and have always enjoyed them . . . until now.I liked the other 3 Geodyssey books, but the quality of writing in this 4th book is surprisingly bad.The dialog and actions & attitudes of his characters is so contrived that it is hard to believe that Piers Anthony wrote this book.3-0 out of 5 stars Still Geodyssey - fascinating , but a little different
No matter what the other reviewers say, Geodyssey was still a good read, like all of Piers Anthony's books have been. There are, admittedly, some sections which could have been toned down or shortened, take your pick. I speak specifically of the 40,000 word long story of Melee and Dillon which seems to be a tale told of a romance based on urination and sex and control. There was a brief mention of cannibalism seemingly from the view of "waste not, want not." As I said at the beginning, it is still a good read - the historical settings are fascinating, and while some of the stories are conjectural, Mr. Anthony readily admits to this. It is a good read some will have trouble with and some will not, like any other book. if you have read Piers Anthony before, especially previous Geodyssey installations, read this. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Series has finally lost most of its appeal
'Swell Foop' is the 25th book in the popular Xanth series.I first read the beginning six or seven books in this series about 20 years ago, and then several years ago started reading them from the beginning again. The early books still have their same appeal, and I would recommend that anyone interested in this series begin with the first book, 'A Spell for Chameleon.' I'm not sure when it began, but over the years the books have changed from stories containing amusing puns to a collection of puns loosely tied together by a story. Reading 'Swell Foop' was in many ways sad. There are so many things that I love about this series, but the recent books have become so formulaic that I get little enjoyment out of reading them.5-0 out of 5 stars There's no Place Like Xanth...
I have finished Swell Foop and I can't wait to get Piers Anthony's next book. I have read the Xanth series from the first book (Spell...). I would really recomend any of Piers' books to any one if they love puns and Fantasy. You can start on any book you want, but if you like to read stories that go some where you should start with the first one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Swell Foop
Another Xanth addition. This book was pretty good, though, not THE best Piers Anthony book.As always, this book is full and packed with puns and that Piers' "silly humor".Read more
