4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference for Database Developers Moving to SQL 2005 From 2000
We have been heavy users (both as developers and administrators) of SQL Server 2000 since it came out in 2000.We were anxious to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 and did so in early 2006.For the first couple of months we largely utilized SQL 2005 in the same way that we had done with SQL 2000 (with the exception of using the new Management Studio) and did not really exploit the new features of SQL 2005.This book definitely opened our eyes to many of the new features of the SQL 2005 database and we are using many of those features in our current development efforts.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for
If you're looking for a "what's new in SQL Server 2005" this book covers that.If you're looking for a reference book on the product, that goes into how to configure or upgrade from an earlier version--Keep Looking.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent SQL 2005 Coverage
This book does an awesome job of hitting everything that is new in SQL 2005.There is a lot to cover so it doesn't go into deep depth, but it does give you a good overview and points you in the right direction to find more information out on a particular topic by making sure you have a great introduction. ... Editorial Review

This award-winning novel remains a powerful classic of prejudice, love, and survival. In 1942, 11-year-old Phillip Enright lives with his parents on the Dutch island of Curaçao, but when the war moves too close forcomfort, his mother decides to travel with him back to the safety of Virginia. They eventually land on a deserted island.Phillip is suspicious of "the large Negro," but soon grows to trust--and ultimately love--the patient and generous Timothy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Solid, well-done fiction -a teacher's review
'The Cay' is a wonderful little bit of fiction. It has action, is well-written and contains such themes as overcoming racism, sacrifice and resourcefulness. Its quick-moving plot and easy to read style should make it accessible to almost anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Why this book inspired me
This book inspired me by perservering. The young boy on the island never gave up after he became blind. For example, he asked the elderly man to show him how to survive on the island. This helped me in school because even though something might happen to me I shouldn't give up.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book
The Cay, by Theodore Taylor is an extremely exciting book, which could be read by ages 10 and up because it does not have very hard vocabulary, and it is easy to understand. This book takes place on the island of Curacao in the Caribbean, during World War Two. Philip, who is a preteen lives on Curacao is from Virginia, and lives on the island with his mother, and father. German submarines have surrounded the island and were destroying boats that were trying to get off the island. When Philips mother gets scared that the Germans will attack the island, she wants to get back to the United States with Philip. When their boat leaves, the Germans do not torpedo them...yet. Philip ends up on a raft with an old colored deckhand from the boat. He is old, and is named Timothy, who is from the U.S. Virgin Islands. They keep drifting for around a week and then end up on a, small remote island that is in an area called the "Devils Mouth." Timothy has excellent survival skills. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who likes, suspenseful exciting books. I think both boys and girls would like this book. Overall a great book that many people would like. ... Editorial Review

In order to pass English class and graduate, 18-year-old Steve York has to write a 100- page essay about his life. What sounds like a run-of-the-mill writing assignment, however, becomes an excuse for Steve to reflect on the last four years (from Texas freshman to California senior), and figure out where it all went wrong. Maybe it was when he discovered that he really couldn't relate to his father, the Famous Astronaut. Or it could be because his "heart had been run through frappé, puree, and liquefy on a love blender" by his ex-girlfriend, Wanda "Dub" Varner. No matter where the finger of blame ends up pointing, it's a wild ride of self-enlightenment as Steve discovers that not all relationships are permanent, and that some--like the one with his dad--can be mended with a little work. With Steve, author Rob Thomas has taken a teenage outsider and given him a funny, intelligent voice: "There are those males who merely fill ear holes with tiny studs hardly big enough to offend a Marine. Not me. Most days I wear big hoops. When I combine the look with a doo rag, I'm a regular pirate." As with his other novels--Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must For Fans of Veronica Mars
Lots of fun. I bought it because I'm a fan of Rob Thomas' television shows Veronica Mars and Cupid, and because Rob used to teach high school here in Austin. It's written in a voice similar to Veronica Mars, and while there are no crimes being committed, there is a central mystery. And the book gets high school romance right. It's a quick read, but a good time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rats Saw God
Do any of you sometimes have problems understanding your parents or do some of your parents have problems understanding you? If the answer is yes, I think you'll be able to relate to 18 year-old Steve York in this book titled Rats Saw God. Steve's parents divorced when he was a freshman in high school and his perfectionist straight-laced astronaut father gets custody of him. Steve's mother gets custody of his sister and moves to San Diego. One day, just out of the blue after finishing his junior year at his Houston, Texas high school, Steve drives 27 hours non-stop to the Pacific Ocean in San Diego to live with his mother and sister, unannounced. Steve begins to finish out his last year of high school at his new high school in San Diego, Wakefield High. Steve's a self-described pothead so he wasn't all that surprised when the principal summons him to the guidance counselor's office one day. Steve just thinks his drug problems were going to be discussed. Mr. DeMouy turns out to be this cool, professional and unflappable guidance counselor, and he informs Steve that he's one English credit short of graduating. DeMouy gives Steve the option of writing a 100-page paper on any subject he chooses to earn that credit. Seeing that Steve was awarded National Merit finalist and obtained a 4.0 GPA in his Houston high school along with earning other academic honors, DeMouy feels Steve could be up to the challenge if Steve sets his mind to it. At this point, the story really takes off. Steve's journals his current year in high school and his previous three years of high school before arriving to San Diego. But I'm going to let you each find out the meaning behind the title of this book for yourselves so you'll have to read the book, Rats Saw God.

After a year of poor grades, truancies, detention, and drug possession charges, Steve York is one English credit short from escaping high school and graduating. When Steve's new school receives notice that he is a National Merit finalist, his high school counselor makes him a deal: write a one hundred page paper about anything. What follows is a dual account about Steve's past and present, the wayward path that lead him to escape Houston, Texas, and the direct course that pushed him to get his life back together.

Running from your fears is one thing, facing them is another. In Sniper, by Theodore Taylor, 15 year old Ben Jepson is left alone to protect his family's wildlife preserve in Los Coyotes, California. But he doesn't know that a killer is watching him. The trouble starts when someone opens the gates and lets the cats lose. When he tries to recapture the felines, he finds that two of them have been shot to death. Thus begins an epic struggle for survival. Taylor puts in a lot of voice and depth into the writing and accurately describes Ben's feeling during his relationship with Sandy, his girlfriend, and the deaths of the cats. The main suspect is Richie Lewis, but Richie, to Ben, is the meaning of Fear. But, is Richie really the killer? When will Ben's parents come home from Africa? Will Ben catch the killer and save the cats? Taylor makes you sit on the edge of your seat in this action - packed book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Probably the funniest comic character in Britain
The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole and the Growing Pains of Adrian Mole are, for me, the funniest in Sue Townsend's Mole series. They chronicle the agonised musings of Adrian - a sensitive intellectual, struggling with his parents, his mercurial girlfriend Pandora, his friends, Barry Kent - the school bully and the burdens of life in a cul-de-sac in 1980s Leicester.

My sister recommended this book to me, and, surprisingly, it's difficult to find in our local bookstore. Therefore, I was happy to see that it was available on Amazon.com.I love the story about the little girl and her dog, and, if you're an animal lover, this book is definitely a must-read for all ages!

1-0 out of 5 stars 'Tuck' shows no sign of imagination
Why do people write books so uninspired and idiotic such as this one? And why do they think kids will like them? "The Trouble With Tuck" tries to be heartwarming but never succeeds. There's a fork, but no meat.

This book was awesome! I liked the fact that it was from Huter's point of view this time and not Morgan's. I am glad that Hunter found his father and i highly recommend any one who hasn't read or as partially read this series to read it because it is very good.

4-0 out of 5 stars ehh...
I am totally obsessed with these sweep books..but this one was my least favorite.Tiernan writes it just like Hunter's personality---dry.I mean, I love Hunter and I did enjoy the book, I just felt that Hunter was a very boring character in this book, and she could've definitely done something to change that.Overall, this was the worst book...which is pretty good since i gave it 4 stars...but if you get bored with it--READ IT anyways. It has pertinent information in it that you need to know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quite Refreshing, Really
This book is from the point of view of Hunter Niall, Morgan's boyfriend. I absolutely suggest this book for all MorganXHunter lovers. Although it doesn't really include Morgan that much, it is quite clear how Hunter feels about her. Just like each character in Sweeps, Hunter has his own history. His parents abandoned him when he was quite young. Now he got news that they might be somewhere in Canada. He might be reunited with his parents after imagining, hoping it so many times, but it means the possibility of leaving Morgan. He located his parents, but their reunion is not the happy, warm one that he had imagined... ... Read more

Adrian Mole is balding, he's bitter, and he's back, this time at age30. Though he may be older, Sue Townsend's comic creation is certainly no wiser. 5-0 out of 5 stars Adrian Grows Up
A fitting tribute to Aidrian age 30.Absolutely hilarious. Adrian has physically matured and has managed to father two children but is still grappling with the same issues he did when he was 13 and 3/4.His family are as dysfunctional as ever and his yearning passion for the gorgeous Pandora has been excacerbated by the fact that she is now the new labour candidate for Ashby De La Zouch in Leics.4-0 out of 5 stars 'Offal'ly unputdownable...a little depressing though
I love Adrian Mole, he's awesome. I have read every Mole diary since the 13-3/4th book and I'm truly amazed at how Ms.Townsend has so wonderfully captured the mind of the underdog male in her writing. The whole concept seems quite similar to the excellent TV series 'The Wonder Years'. If you dont look at the author's name, you would probably not expect it to be a woman. In other words, she seems to have fully understood the mind of the opposite sex. That said, I found this book to be a little too depressing albeit there is a lot of humour. Of course you have got to read the first book at least, if not all of them to understand what is going on in this one. There are lots of references to characters from earlier diaries. They are so interesting and yet so down-to-earth that they almost become a part of your life. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't like how the author projects Adrian as a loser at many things. His family is still as dysfunctional as ever. I'm not going to give away anything as to how Adrian does in the end. But the story could do with a little more cheer. Anyway, its a thoroughly enjoyable book and worth the money. ... Read more

This book brings together the greatest amount of current clinical and basic science information on the importance of the pelvis, and particularly, the sacroiliac joints, and their relation to low back pain. The traditional medical model has assumed for years that only spinalstructures, such as the discs and facet joints, are important in low backpain syndrome. This book clearly identifies the role of the sacroiliacjoints in producing low back pain and provides information on bothconservative and surgical treatment. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put this one down all day...
Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction by Sue Townsend was one of those library books that attracted me due to the quirky title and unusual cover.Having no background with Townsend's work or any other Mole novels, I really didn't know what to expect. What I found was an incredibly funny English novel that I was unable to put down until I was finished.
5-0 out of 5 stars Adrian Mole Grows Up, Sort Of...
The Adrian Mole saga which began with Adrian's secret diary (aged thirteen & three quarters) continues, as the famous loser moves into his mid-thirties. He's still wildly grandiose, his grip on reality is shaky at best, but life is starting to grind him down. He's living in a posh flat he can't possibly afford. He's still hopeless infatuated with Pandora, he finds himself (somehow) engaged to Marigold, who he can't stand, and he's falling hopelessly in debt. Oh yes, he's been writing to the British Prime Minister about those weapons of mass destruction. He needs the evidence for--well, never mind. Just read the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, sharp and hilarious.
I picked up this book having not read any Adrian Mole for many years. As I am roughly the same age as Adrian I was curious to see where life had taken him. I was so glad that I did because this book is fantastic. I don't think I have ever read a book so fast! I will use the well worn cliches that 'I couldn't put this book down' and that it is 'laugh out loud funny'. I usually hate it when people smugly laugh out loud whilst reading books, but I honestly couldn't help myself with this one. Much to the annoyance of my wife!

4-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should be more like Morgan!
After 16 years of being a Rowlands, Morgan finds out she's adopted and that her parents have been lying to her all along! But why? Why would they keep such a secret from her, if not for a good reason?
5-0 out of 5 stars The coven.
It is very hard to type a review for all of the sweep books and try to say something different instead of that it is great! Moprgan and her friends get introduced more into the life of Wicca. This book has romance, suspense and a wild turn at the end that wants you to run to the nearest book store and get the next one. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Cay Book Reveiw

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as Interesting as the Cay
The life of our little young and mature character changes through out the story. He got rescued from the diminutive cay which is going to appear again. After rescued Phillip was passing through a hard time in his house, while in the other part 14 year old Timothy is living his own life trying to be a sailor. Timothy of the Cay was written by Theodore Taylor. It is a sequel but at the same time a prequel of the first story. It is a sequel because it tells you about the life of Phillip after the cay and it is a prequel because it tells you about Timothy's life before the cay.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Book
I didnt think this book would be all this good. "Who is this Rose MacEwan?" i thought when i read the back cover, "whats she doing jumping into the WICCA series i know and love?" but i soon discovered....THIS IS SOME AWESOME BOOK, in my opinion, the best of all of them. Everything that I was confused about in the series suddenly all made sense, and this book made way for more great storylines to endure. I now love Rose almost as much as I love Morgan (in a non-lesbian way, i love her character and her personality, if you no wat i mean).

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended to Parents who cant get their daughters to read
I purchased the Sweep series for my 13 year old daughter in the hopes that maybe she would read."She hated to read."Well I was amazed, and could not get her to go to sleep, as she would spend the whole night, with a night-light on reading these books. She enjoyed them so much, and could not stop talking first about Cal and then Hunter, that I had to see what all the fuss was about.5-0 out of 5 stars Wow.
Okay, I admit, this book was sitting on my nightstand for a while. I had no interest in reading it because it took place in a different time zone with no Morgan or Hunter.Read more

    Editorial Review

Teen angst has never been such serious business--or this much fun! In his secret diary, Britishteen Adrian Mole excruciatingly details every morsel of his turbulent adolescence. Mixed in with daily reports about the zit sprouting on his chin are heartrending passages about his parents' chaotic marriage. Adrian sees all, and he has something to say about everything. Delightfully self-centered, Adrian is the sort of teen who could rule a much better world--if only his crazy relatives and classmates would get out of his way. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As Good As Bridget Jones
I love this book! I read it when I was a teenager and some of the stuff that only the English would know was a bit tough to get through but it was just so much fun, so hilarious that I read it many times. I recently re-read it and it was totally as good as I remember or better. Unfortunately, there were follow-up books and none came even close to this, the classic British Diary book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pearl Harbor
I found this book really interesting, its like little stories in the one book. It also puts u in perspectives of the people in the book, which was sorta cool, but all the same concept of course. I would recommend this book to 7th and 8th graders.

my favorit part is when the whole world found out that prarl harbor had been deyastated in a japanese air raid. they thought nothing could hurt this deck until japs. came along. Although the wuited states prossessed to advanced on technolgy such as rador and purple . a top scertecode braker, the informationgathered was often discered of misclassified. but once the raid was luanched , bravery abounded- on booth sides.

3-0 out of 5 stars my book
My book, Air raid Pearl Harbor, was a mixture of good and bad parts.First I found out that the war was unexpected to the Americans. On december 7th the japanese attacked our air base on Oahu.they sank many of our ships and airplanes.i felt that the begining ofthe book was not very exciting because the author madethe book toocomplicated and diffcult to understand. The action got a lot better and the got more exciting. The Americans entered the war and ships were sinking and planes were being blown up.Iwould recommend this book to somone who is interested in complicated books. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected
I was completely enthralled with the first three books and I couldn't wait until A NECKLACE OF WATER came out. Then when I began to read, it felt as if Cate had rushed the story and looked for an easy and simple way to end the story quick.I was disapointed with the way things ended, especially between Thai and Luc.Overall, the storyline was entertaining and I hope Cate comes out with another series.

4-0 out of 5 stars What Went Wrong
The great rite has been performed but it did not work the way anyone hoped that it would. But what was it supposed to do?There were many ideas as to what could be done but nothing definite about what would be done. Now that it is over some members of the Trieze have been affected, each in a different way. Some have hopes of doing the rite again. There is the question of who has tried to kill the twins. But one thing is sure, everyone still has their own plots and goals.
2-0 out of 5 stars Is this an ending or a desperate wrap up? 2 1/2 stars.
Before I begin this review I will clarify: I am writing this with the understanding that you have read the other three books. If you haven't, I don't expect you to glean much from what follows...
